Games you remember, names you don't

This?

Wow done in one, that's it. Thanks Duckroll :)

Probably too vague but I'm trying to remember the name of a brick breaker I played in the early 2000s on pc. I don't remember it having any special themes. There were striped bricks that took multiple hits to break, power ups that I remember; multiple balls, grow and shrink paddle, rockets shot from the sides of the paddle, magnet to "catch the ball" on the paddle. There were a bunch of different strength bricks with realistic rock skins. I remember one looked like marble, one was some green rock. They weren't all just boring solid colors.

I know its a long shot but I'd love to play this again.

These are some of the right bricks.

Arkanoid, or its sequel, Revenge of Doh?

Not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about but I'll give it a try.
It's a NES game and it looks very similar to this:

1943_arcade.png

Except the plane looks more futuristic (Galaga like) and all the action seems to happen above a city so you only see roofs and buildings, etc.
The first boss (or the main one can't remember which one) looks like a giant robot with arms* placed right in the middle of your path. You have to take it down in order to keep progressing in the game.
It fires bombs, missiles, laser beams, etc at you.
There's a moment where you have like 2 seconds while it is "reloading" to hit it with your weapons.
If you're successful, theres a big explosion, destroying the robot and the middle of the path clears out

*I'm not sure if it really has arms but it definitely has a rounded shape.

Anyway, I made this quick photoshop job to explain a little better how it looks

I've been thinking about this game lately but I can't for the life of remember its name.

I would say Crisis Force, but the boss doesn't really match your picture.

Another Option:
Image Fight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2uHbvEONeE#t=51
Doesn't match the corridor behind the boss, but similar arm design.

They're two different games?
I remember playing the shit out it as a kid but I never thought they would be two separate games.
Interesting.. It makes sense now lol

Oh My God, yes, I was thinking about the city in Crisis Force AND The Guardian Legend boss at the same time.
You guys are wizards. Not sure how you managed to find them with my stupid and totally wrong description D:

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. You did an amazing job.

Lol, glad to help. I love this thread as it tests my retro gaming knowledge.

DX-Ball 2?
This is..it? Maybe. I've been looking at this game for a while trying to decide and the bricks are the right ones which makes me think this is it. They're pretty distinctive. However there a number of things that just dont seem right. I remember the game I'm thinking of looking much more modern. The ui, backgrounds and power ups don't look right (old/low res) and I remember there being a level editor. The boxed edition had a limited gamestop exclusive print which reduces the chance of it being the right one. I remember the box being yellow/orange but frustratingly enough I can't find a picture of the it anywhere on the internet.

So taking these things into account I checked for an ultimate or special edition, which I couldn't find, as well as checking all of the successors but they all use different bricks.

Added this to my op. These are some of the right bricks.

OK - so this is a rather hard one and Germany only.
The game consisted of several shovelware mini-game clones. The only one I remember is a Frogger clone. You played as a 5-Marks coin. I'm pretty sure the game was named "Heiermann" (which is a synonym for the 5 Mark coin) but I can't find any info about it. It was on PC and probably a marketing game for a Bank or something and came out early or mid 90ies.

This is probably going to be a lackluster description, but here we go.

So when I was a kid we had a Macintosh Performa, and one of the games that we had on it was a first person point and click adventure game. You started the game out on in a city, and you made your way to a space station and eventually onto a luxury spaceship that was attacked by space pirates or something.

The most vivid memories I have of it are the alien cab driver in the city because you had to type a place you wanted to go, and if you didn't type a phrase he recognized he would say "What the hell?!" in a weird voice that I thought was hilarious at the age of 8. There was also a weird alien exotic dancer in a bar that I tried to hide from my parents.

I don't recall much more of the details from later in the game, but I remember enjoying it.

I think I've found it. It's called Spaceship Warlock.

A game from the 1990s, it was on my dad's old laptop that had a rolling ball as the mouse. Might have been a Dell. Or a palm laptop if they did those. Anyway the game was a Black and white side scroller. It was a stick figure Who climbed ladders and he suffered from fall damage. I forget the objective but it played a lot like The donkey kong arcade game. Whenever he fell he would scream really loud and then he would splat when I hit the ground

That's pretty much all I remember

Was it black and white, or was it only rendered in B&W because the laptop had a mono screen? My gut's saying Dark Castle, but that's largely because that was explicitly mono at the time.

Thanks but that's not it. The graphics were very bland like just a stick figure the platforms and ladders. Maybe some portals too?

This one?

Heiermanns Return

never played it

GAF, I need your detective skills for this one. The main things I can remember about this game is:

  • It's an N64 game, or a game from that era
  • You play as Johnny Cage, or a character that looks like him
  • I remember running through brownish/black pillars with huge industrial fans in the background
  • Imagine something like the CoD4 map, Shipment with 4x more shipping containers. This is how i can best describe how big the pillars are.

Unless it is 2D I'm going to suggest Winback:

Edit: Forgot Hybrid Heaven guy had blonde hair:

There was this super old PC game I played as a child. It may have been on DOS even. Every so often I try to remember the name but cannot. All I remember of it is it was click adventure and had dinosaurs and time travel and I could never get beyond a game over screen involving aliens.

I don't think it has released yet and I thought it was coming to consoles. It's a free to play third person shooter that has the graphics and budget of a AAA game. I think you fought zombies or monsters. Made by epic games?

It's not Warframe is it? That's the only major FTP TPS I can think of.

Although it's already out so probably not.

Frozen Cortex reminded me of this. Old future sports game probably from around 92-95. I believe it was Dos, and may have been shareware. I think it was turn based though I'm not 100% on that, and it featured small teams (2-3 players per team) in a maze like environment where you had to run/pass the ball to locations to score. Top down, kind of plane graphics I think with a space station theme. I can't seem to find anything matching it at the various retro games sites.

1. My brain is seeing what I think is a C64 circus game where you're riding a unicycle outside of a big top. It's not Circus Charlie, and I don't think Kickman came out on C64, so I doubt it's that. I feel like the gameplay was similar to Circus Charlie, like scrolling and jumping over stuff?

2. C64 game where you control what looks like a space shuttle, and you're trying to get through an asteroid field. The ship goes vertically very slowly, and there are probably 7-10 rows of asteroids that don't move in unison. Also, the asteroids are small and look like cocoa pebbles.

Hard mode on BigTop Barney, perhaps?

(Never played it myself, but the other two I found felt wrong.)

Sounds like Crush! Deluxe

it's a ps1 game where you control an insect. I remember it being a 3D side scroller.

I've tried looking it up and all i've found this game called Spider: The Video Game and that's not it. I can't remember what insect you control, but I wanna say there were multiple insects. Also It wasn't A Bugs Life either.

Bug Too! for the Saturn/PC? It's not on PS1, but it is a 3d sidescroller where you can play as three different bugs...

Hoping for help on behalf of a work colleague.

Best description is one I lifted from a Yahoo Answers question someone posted 7 years ago that was unanswered (well, someone said pacman... No.)

It was sort of like guantlet, or Ikari Warriors. You'd walk through a level from a top down perspective shooting enemies. However there would be characters trapped in the level, and if you saved them then you could play as them. And they were vastly different. Like from different times. Some used bows or swords. Some looked like astronauts or robots. There were ninjas, soldiers, etc... I remember there was a fairly large amount of characters you could unlock. You'd have to save them and then make it to the end of the level exit with them to use them.

Work colleague is confident it's 90s, around 93-94ish (says it was same time as Daytona) but naturally he could be wrong.

Any ideas? Have tried some googling but the signal to noise ratio is garbage.

Gain Ground. Probably one of my favorite Sega arcade games. Genesis port was good too.

Hey everyone, the one time I posted in this thread the first response was the correct name of the game so I figured I would try again. Any help is appreciated :)

I'm thinking of a flash game from the early to mid 2000s where all I remember is you are a character (I think a triangle) and you are going across a grid with other triangle barriers you have to dodge. I remember when the level would speed up the background colors would change, and I'm pretty sure black and white was when it started to get tough.

Hoping someone knows of the game. Thanks!

EDIT: Ahh, it was called Cube Field! Nevermind!

I'm impressed that you've managed to improve on a success rate of "first response has the answer". ;)

Okay I think that I might have a tough one..

I used to play this at the local Putt Putt

- A arcade game

- It was a fighting game

- Was a hologram game

- The gamers stood across from each other

- I played this 20 - 25 years ago

I recall playing this back around 95/96.

Was a PC game for Win95, I recall the game spanning multiple CDs, might have been 3 CDs or more.
First person medieval RPG
Dragons were featured in it prominently
You could travelled in an open world environment
The combat system was like Elder Scrolls Oblivion/Skyrim IIRC.
The game was pretty early 3D.
Pretty sure it wasn't part of the Might and Magic.

Sorry I don't have any more information other than this.
