I picked up a Joycard Sansui for the NES. I paid what was probably full value ($15) but it's mint and I have always wanted a NES controller with turbo that isn't a Max pad. Anyone else use this controller?

Hey guys! I love my Sharp Twin Famicom and play it everyday. I was lucky to find one with a working disk drive.

The vegetables are still there with less animated, black leaves instead of the flowing red ones. What's going on with Imajin there on the cover is that there are mask blocks that you can throw, stack, and jump on top of instead of the mushroom blocks in SMB2USA.
A couple of goodies came for me yesterday.
My Famicom copy of Parodius Da! came in and I smashed my way through it on easy. That game was still pretty challenging on easy. Pretty crazy little title though with great music!
My NES copy of Whomp Em! also came in. Weird game with a strange history. But heck, it was pretty enjoyable up until the last boss. I beat him but man was that not a fun fight. Long and boring. Still, a Mega Man-style NES game with a Native American motif was pretty unique and worth my time.

I'm very unfamiliar with all the Famicom variants, does anybody have a link to a webpage that shows all the variations etc.?
On my honeymoon in Japan last year, I saw a few types at Super Potato:
I'm guessing the Famicom on the top shelf there is the most sold model in Japan, and the shelf below has the diskdrives to that model.
The third shelf however seems to have a few types of a completely different Famicom, which I learn here is a Sharp model. Did Sharp make a few types?

They're basically just colour variations of the Twin Famicom, of which there are three.
There are two main original Famicoms (the rare early 'square button' version and the regular round button version). There's also the Hong Kong version of the second model.
There's the Famicom Disk System attachment (and HK version of that).
There's the AV Famicom (looks like the top loading NES), Quite expensive even in Japan.
There's the Famicom Twin, which combined the Fami with the FDS, made by Sharp. One has longer controller cords and turbo functions.
There's also the Sharp Famicom Titler, which is a very rare 'business' version of the Famicom that has a built in 'make a title card for your business video' graphics function.
Then there are like 900 million clones which may confuse you.

I had my NES-101 RGB mod with a multi-out port from an AV Famicom done by game-tech.us. It looks great.

Damn! That's a lot of varations. I see that the top loading "NES2" was different in Japan from the US/Euro model, probably something to do with the cartridge sizes. Thanks for the info btw!

NG isn't that hard of a game once you get the rhythm and patterns. I've beaten it on emus which isn't the same but after learning all the levels I can breeze through 80% of the game. it's just the last fifth is needlessly punitive.
Nah, he does it while I was away, and he even did a recording on his youtube account of not even using continues.
I hear the last stage is punishing.
Yep, I was never able to beat the second form of the last boss. And the fact that it puts you back to the start of the last level when you die at the boss is a total nightmare.
I heard bad things about that, I think the wall trick is the best trick to avoid most of his fire.

My buddy had that controller back in the day. It's incredible. Feels perfect in your hands. I plan to pick myself up one to use when game-tech-us and kevtris's HDMI mod is out.
Looks like it'll take me all this week to beat Ninja Gaiden, lol.
That game is pure evil towards the end.

That said, I love the games you need to play part. My uncle had Faxanadu and I wanted to play it so badly. But it was dead, something wrong with the connectors. No amount of blowing would make it wake up. I could get it into a barely playable mode that was me controlling what may have been Faxanadu or may have been pixelated 80s porn.
Later, a friend had a cartridge and I tried it, but he announced to me that the game was dead. Sure enough, flickering title screen and white noise.

They make pills for that.
It's all about investing in balloons and the powerup when you're in the shops in the early game. Once you get to level 2-1 that's when it gets hard and holding onto the powerup as long as humanly possible makes it doable. The good news is when you get to 5-1 you don't need any powerups anymore because your default weapon is already amazingly good. So you just need to pick up either more health or balloons or an extra life in that part.
Ninja Gaiden is actually extremely easy if you memorize the weapon locations. Grab the jumpslash weapon and keep it the entire game. Bosses literally die in seconds and you can whiz through the stages. It's as broken as Castlevania's Fire Bomb III.
I used to beat it every time I played. I can't remember if I was able to do it with no deaths back during the NES days, but I believe so. A couple years ago, I tried no death runs for a few days, but would always die due to a stupid mistake in stage 5 or so.

I really enjoy the feel of it too. I like the dogbone, but this might be the one I primarily play with. I'm just relieve to had a controller with turbo that isn't the NEX Max. That thing blows.

I've collected NES stuff on and off for like 15 years now, and I've never even heard of this controller until your post. Looks really cool. Definitely nothing else like it as far as I know.

Yeah, it does some really obscure. Yet, still affordable on eBay if you ever get curious and want to check it out.

^^ You're right. Pretty cheap. So does the sound output to just one headphone earbud at a time? If so, I suppose you could use an adaptor to pump both channels into a monaural feed on both sides?

You know, I haven't messed around with the headphone port. I need to give it a shot this weekend.
Faxanadu is a pretty good game and isn't terribly expensive if you want to try again. I just beat it for the first time a few weeks ago... just remember to hold on to a few spare keys and to never pick up the Bracelet

I think I'm gonna just get one. Super cheap on ebay. I haven't had my NES hooked up for over three years and probably won't any time soon, but I just want one of these, lol. Also seems like the kind of thing that could shoot up in price with one GAF thread or one mention in a GiantBomb stream.

Best $30 to spend. 7 foot cord is worth that. Plus it is sized up in every dimension. Plus turbo.
What a Playchoice 10 RGB mod looks like.
Comparison is to standard RF Famicom. TV settings were the same.
In person it jumps. Seeing them back to back I had a 'wow' reaction. The colors you see. But can't see the clarity and sharpness of the details that makes a huge difference.
