That blue screen of death is the finishing touch

I am genuinely surprised by the amount of salt in this thread.
Considering the overwhelming consensus in a thread before either were announced was that Sony were going to curl up and die and that MS were going to save gaming for everyone, I'm really not.

I don't know where you were but I remember a whole lot of PC gaming is dieing last generation, hell I was one of those Xbox fanboys touting that. Right now, even on GAF, there seems to be a whole lot more PC gamers on forums than there were last generation (I got here in 2008, so that's all I can compare it too). I'm not sure if Nintendo's downturn or Xbox's reputation/marketshare collapse has much to do with that.

It shouldn't considering the amount of games available to them, mid last generation even thinking stuff like MGSV, Valkyrie Chronicles, Dragonball Xenoverse or hell even Mortal Kombat going to PC would have been laughed at.
I definitely think not only that but the GAF community as a whole is super helpful when it comes to help or tutorials to make your own Pc.

well i'll be honest i was salty when the wii was doing great, it had generation old hardware compared to it's competition, and i hated the motion controls, i was worried it would kill my hobby, but the ps4 is the most powerful console by far this gen, so pc gamers should be happy. ps4 won't be holding pc games back, compared to something like the wii or wiiu would. games like the order, driveclub, shadowfall and second son, would easily be the best looking games on PC with more AA, higher resolution and 60fps.

I agree. Consoles metal API now made PC API to be improved with AMD mantle and MS DX12 so they should thank consoles for this. Also this generation made PC ports to be high quality due to similar architecture. Only consoles are helping AAA games to be made and invested where the day one sales high compared to PC which has legs in LTD.

Am I the only one legit confused at how people could get salty / upset at a gaming platform doing well in sales?

Like that is healthy for the industry, and guarantee's us future support for our hobby.

There's a few people on here who I honestly believe hope and pray daily that consoles fail so they can run in and be like HURR PCCCCC PCCCCC HURRR.

For gaming purposes, I can think of 3 uses of the word "salt":
  1. Salt (the chemical NaCl) as a substance in human tears.
  2. Rubbing salt [in a wound], presumably inflicted during some kind of console warring battle, to cause additional pain and prevent healing.
  3. Salting [the earth], to "destroy the fertility of land" or to make statement one thinks definitively ends an argument, rightfully or wrongfully.
Thus:
"Salty" ends up a common adjective to describe an emotional state, often jealousy.
"Giving salt" to encourage to continue a misguided argument; 'Would you like some more salt with that post?'
"Taste salt" as a verb to describe the action of consuming one's tears as future insult and suggest that the victim will continue to produce tears for some time.
"Salted" as an administrative action to end discussion on a matter; ie close a thread or change its OP and/or title to add further conditions. (This is common on Wikipedia; When an article gets deleted it can be "salted" from later re-creation)

Am I missing anything? This could warrant additional research. With more highly-anticipated console-exclusive games coming out in 2015 and obvious future sales milestones to meet we are bound to repeat this process many times over in the near future. Well, repeat it more frequently? We're very early in the year and months from E3, even!
Oh, and TIL that the world "salary" has its origins in the word "salt"! Silly Romans.

There is the belief that salt causes hypertension and high blood pressure so increased heart rate and getting angry is also "getting salty" - especially in fighting games - you mad.

You show me this mythical $300 PC that requires no maintenance, no driver tweaks, can play anything I launch from the Steam store, and can output visuals equal to the Order, Drive Club, or Infamous:SS.

You show me that thing, the full package, and I'll recant everything I've ever said or thought about how silly you are.
Which PC will play Uncharted 4 and Persona 5?

To everyone who doupt you can build a pc which is better than a console for a similar, here is proof.

Don't forget that you could get a better component's if you compare prices and get better hardware.
Also you get with every dollar you are willing to spend more out of it, spending 50$ for the pc more will get you way better hardware.

Inbound people who are still crying because buying hardware and building a pc is hard.

You forgot that most components are used (good luck with warranty and not ending with hardware that might get broken after some time).

And that several recent games (and certainly even more in the future) will be have MR over 4GB of RAM, games like Advanced Warfare wouldn't even run in that build.

And also, yeah, you need a windows license...

You can build a decent PC for the price of a PS4 or a bit more, but your example is awful and certainly not even future proof.

Edit: I know he's banned, but that build is not representative of the actual prices in the market.

Congrats Sony!

Keep it up!

Edit: Anyone have one of those awesome thread TLDR updates with all the meltdowns?

Save me going through 38 pages >.<

A few dozen posts of "PS4 has no games!". A few dozen posts of current gen consoles being out performed by $12 PCs made out of toasters. 19 pages of salt GIFs. I think that catches you up.

SCE software should be beastly in 2016. This year is pretty good too. I wonder if UC4 will sell 10 million since a lot of 360 owners seem to have converted to PS4.

I'd say that it's already looking beastly this year. It's unlikely that they've announced all of their 2015 games right now. Especially with U4 and possibly Ratchet being the only games that they have lined up for late in the year.

I'm out of this thread.
My doctor told me I shouldn't eat salt :(

Good console business between all manufacturers = better for consumers.

This is the truth of it all. Look at how MS are starting to bring the heat now they are losing. Sony are also at their best when lagging behind in sales. It's better for all customers.

Come to think of it, I propose that no one buys any new consoles until they are all launching at $200 with 4 games. That would be awesome. Restrain yourselves people, it's for the greater good :)

I love how people buy a console for just one game and refuse to build a pc for hundreds of fantastic exclusives where everyone finds something for their taste.
Bloodborne looks like one of the first really good outstanding games for the PS4 and the only valid purchase reason for a PS4 but it's just one game...
All other exclusive are A. multiform games (no question, even cheap pc's do a better job than any console) B. time exclusive (a bit later in a better and cheaper and often more version on pc) or C. just "ok" games for an unreasonable price.

Stop being fanboys and open your eyes, being loyal to a brand without comparing with other products is just stupid.
If there is something way better, offers overall a better way to play everything than play there and currently it's almost always the pc version (sometimes, like in SF IV, they fuck up something like online and won't fix it, it's still playable but there way less players too choose from than on 360).
I know a few crazy JRPG fans (mainly Souls and Persona) than I get it why they bought a console but they did that because they did not have a other choice, everything else they play on their pc.
Console is like fast food, cheaply made and doesn't need much effort and can get you fed up but taking some time preparing your own meal is just generally better.
Nobody bats an eye if you play on consoles but if you talk literally trash without any facts or evidence it helps no one.

it's like a kintalis post

At this rate, I think the word "salt" has been used more than PS4 XD Maybe the thread title should be changed to 20.2 million kilotonnes of salt sold ;)

I'm one of the 20.2 million, but I can't say I've made much use of the thing so far. Bloodborne will hopefully change that, though.

Same here... Haven't played anything substantial since Infamous when it came out. Still playing on the PS3 since it has free online play and a massive inexpensive library of games I haven't played.

I'm waiting for Batman and Uncharted to change that.
