Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

It doesn't though. Look at this footage at 8.32 or so with the dinosaur...The lighting looks really great, as does the detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFIgqrjwnWY

It's great but still far from the ultra pc ver. Shown first time. It also doesn't help shadows are cut and that probably also makes an impact on the overall lighting. Don't get me wrong, it's still amazing... but it's very gamey now in comparison to before that almost approached photo realistic lighting if u get what I mean.

I have a question.

Do you think there is a "downgrade" here?

Impossible to tell considering it's different times of day.

Impossible to care as well. Downgrade debates might be even worse than frame rate discussions.

It's a different time of the day there, or not?
Time of day is different + added mist etc.

P.S I am not saying there is a downgrade here or anything. I am just pointing out that different time of day can change a scene drastically as well. Not to mention they have rushed the demo for release instead of the originally planned Summer release (as per Kagari)

You don't provide any proof though. I don't think the lighting has been cut at all. The shadowing on the grass probably has, and that is where you are seeing the difference. I hope that is still in there in the final release. Otherwise, nothing has really changed for the worse. IQ has changed for the better. AA still needs to be improved evidently.

Lol, nothing like a GAF downgrade witchhunt!

So far the only perceivable downgrades have been since the original October walkthrough. The foliage lighting model took quite a hit and now no longer casts shadows or has any specularity. Also during gameplay, but not during cutscenes, self shadowing was a bit more detailed (hair and arms don't cast shadows). The bloom is a bit different since the October video, but I like it.

Other than that, there have been nothing but upgrades overall. Trees have vines growing on them, rocks are covered in moss, and everything feels a lot more "glued together" as a result.

Please show me this magical "Ultra PC Version"

The only one that exists so far is the E3 2013 "target render" footage.

The October walk through. Nothing magical about it, topic has been discussed lots of times already with screen shots comparisons by other users better prepared than me. I don't have to prove anything, it's quite obvious the downgrade is there by just watching old footage and most recent footage. Delusional or blindness not admitting it. But people think I care lol... I'm a fucking fan boy and Ff15 will be the best game ever despite merits or faults. It's already a goty from the day they announced it for me lol. I also say here and now that among us ill be the only one true fanatic and defender of it when it ll be out. From lightning knight ill be noctis knight. I'm ready to fight And take on all of you.

The October Walkthrough version is astoundingly better looking. That doesn't mean that what we have now doesn't look good, either, and nor does it mean that the game won't look better at final launch.

Still, I highly doubt it's going to reach the fidelity seen in the October Walkthrough version on PS4.

Also, looks like they did put fake blood in for the Behemoth! Hopefully there's some free DLC to see more light gore (like Noctis bleeding) for the final release.

Don't know about the downgrade talk, but the game world would look so much better if they got the weather system in. Not complaining, but with the weather system and the upgrades they'll do, duscae will surely look more beautiful come the actual game release.

All this game needs now is The Catch Up beat from James Blake while driving through the streets of Insomnia lol.

I can dream.

Yeah its quite ridiculous. The inform part of their marketing campaign is way too aggressive.

They better not be so heavy on the media post demo release.

Its so hard to resist clicking it :(

It's a bit ironic to even say it but they definitely did show too much. Years of silence then they swung the entire opposite way when it comes to what you should inform fans with... gg.

I wish they would have kept the chocobo post unspoiled. That would have been so cool to stumble upon :(
Yes, this is a demo but it's a piece of a game people waited 9 years for. I pray the full game marketing isn't like this at all - let people discover things on their own!

Best plan of action is to probably avoid everything after E3, other than big trailers. Basically what I'm doing with bloodborne.

The demo will do its job on showing me the battle system, I won't need any new info that comes out of ATRs or famitsu spoilers.

It's the same thing with MGSV and some other titles. People really want to see new stuff desperately and when they actually show something it sometimes is too much.

I don't mind seeing a few more locations and gameplay mechanics but I know I will regret having watched 70% of the videos.

MGSV handled it right, really. There's a lot of mystery about the game and most of what has been shown as been very controlled.

I noticed that after all these previews hit the PS4 version of Type-0 shot up to #4 on Amazon (only trailing the PSN cards). So I guess people are starting tor realize that XV is actually real.

I fear for future coverage honestly. Square has a habit of showing too much content. Like showing footage from the last section of the game(sometimes even clips from the ending or even secret ending). Yeah the clips are out of context, but the second you see them in game you think "oh it's that part from the trailer". It also ruins your perception of length in the game. You know more is to come so long as you have seen screenshots/clips that have yet to appear in game.

Maybe it's a bit of a pipe dream, but I kind of wish they would only cover content from the first half of the game. I mean if you can't win someone over in the first half of your game, you've got a serious problem.

Aside from grass shadowing and perhaps the meadow folliage, provide proof. There was as much or more aliasing, the IQ wasn't any better, lighting looks the same to me, textures, geometry. All that I really see different is the grass shadowing and perhaps higher density and more variety of ground plants, which is the best I have seen. Otherwise even the reflections look more wonky in that footage and pop-in an LoD looks perhaps worse.

I think you could compare Ground Zeroes with Duscae, both are rather short and several mechanics will only be available in the final game.

I also think we can expect a few more trailers for both games but I would agree in a sense that we can't really tell where both XV and V are headed storywise.

Which is not a luxury FFXV can afford, people everywhere are extremely skeptical about this game.

They have to tone down the information by a lot, but if they start showing us little stuff like MGSV, then people will become even more skeptical.

I think it's the opposite. People have been speculating more with the avalanche of information we've had, often jumping to irrational conclusions.

I'm hopeful SE's spoiling of the entire demo is just them trying as hard as they can to get people interested in buying Type-0. Hopefully they don't plan the same thing to buy people to get XV when it actually comes out.

-Party based on 4 guys wearing black
-Traveling with a normal car
-Action RPG
-Can play only using Sasuk...Noctis
-No gurls

Why is this game called Final Fantasy XV? Oh! It has Chocobos...totally a FF then!

I can't see a Final Fantasy with this demo but I can see a good game...it's something I guess.

Then they should show more of Type-0 lol. I can't comment yet on the HD version but the original PSP game was very enjoyable to me.

This will sadly happen no matter how much information is released lol

But I am actually okay with them spoiling the demo or showing a lot of it, since its just a demo. Now when it comes to the full game. I hope they cool it down, a bit but still show the direction of the game. I just want to see one big story trailer that gives a good overview, whether or not Stella is still in as well. Hopefully we get something like this at E3

I honestly think people are going to do that regardless. Lack of info and people wonder if it suffered a setback.

I hope after this demo they feel it's enough to keep people occupied at least until E3 and then TGS

Well yeah, that's why they should tone down information.

But definitely not go as low as MGSV, keep it a little in-between.

Yes, Konami is certanly doing it better. Yes they show plenty of stuff but at the same time there's always some question marks scattered around the informations they provide. With FFXV they basically show everything available in the DEMO, leaving anything outside. Hopefully they'll not do the same with the full game... but considering Type-0 trailers, it's delusional thinking so. Maybe I'll have to mediablack out soon too.

Agreed. Come back at E3 strong and let people digest the demo for a few months.

Besides the combat, this has nothing that makes it seem like it isn't another FF game.

- You're pointing out that the clothing of characters looks strange? Sounds like FF to me.
- FFVIII?
- This is new, so I'll let this one pass.
- What does this have to do with anything?
- What does this have to do with anything, either?

I'm already anticipating the huge backlash for the developers being bold and sticking with their vision of an all-male party at final release.

They can show me as much as they want. I'll live. Understand how some can freak from the deluge of information but since I rarely even play/buy games anymore, all of this info helps me decide on a purchase.

Well I think there reasoning for the way they have done Type-0 is that the game has been out for a couple years already, so a good amount of people have probably heard a good amount about it. Probably not the best reason though lol

I don't think you can dismiss his post entirely. I don't think a lot of this stuff would have been the case if they had planned this as FFXV from the beginning. For instance, the all male cast or the lack of female characters.

There were people at the Twitch stream saying how the car drives automatically. I think people will be dumb regardless.

I'm not dismissing it entirely. The action RPG part is the only different part and it's a huge departure.

And Tabata has said that things had to change because this was a mainline FF, they're also appeasing Versus fans, but that doesn't mean that they felt gender was a big enough issue to change the game. Heck, we've had FFX-2 which had an all-female cast.

Yup, Although to GZ credit it's extremely polished but kojima had it planned all along because GZ is not part of TPP. To me GZ is the true ending for PW but that's debatable compared to Ep Duscae which will part of FFXV.

Finally MGSV:TPP will receive one final trailer at E3..FFXV on the other hand has one more E3 showing (2016) imo, so there's gonna be plenty of trailers so going on a blackout after this year's E3 is reasonable.

Even so I was disappointed they spoiled part of the new secret movie...

Do we know yet if the demo is a standalone app or does it run THROUGH Final Fantasy Type-0's menu. I'm considering buying it, using the demo code and then trading the game in to Best Buy (using GCU). But this will only work if the demo is standalone. Anyone know yet?
