Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

I really think they should tone down enemy's HP. They currently take a little too many hits to die, especially the robot soldiers, which shouldn't be the case for regular mobs. In exchange, raise their damage output and perhaps more intelligent combat A.I.

I'm guessing they want you to topple the enemies and then dish out massive damage while they're down.
I would like some sort of "wait here" command. Party members seem to be there just to lose HP and get on my fucking nerves.

Pfff, I'm not totally sure I like how your party members just never stay still. Like the Dengeki video where Noctis is calmly shopping and the other guys are just running around wildly in the foreground

I'm relieved to see that our boyband does not have to camp and sleep outside all the time.
Also actual shops with actual human beings is something I'm quite excited about.

Precedents--
NA: DQVIII had a FFXII demo. November 15, 2005 > October 31st 2006 (NA) release
JP: FFXIII demo packaged with special edition Advent Children bluray March/April 2009 > December 17, 2009 release. ((I can't find the exact exact date, but seems to be mid-March to mid-April))

So 11 months and 8 months for a localized and JP-only first version, respectively. Given the acceptance of global release dates for mega-big stuff these day I'd obviously lean on the longer timeframe. March 2016 is a decent off the cuff guess. YES, I know the development process is a different landscape these days and there's tons of variables involved.

An first announce for January at E3 for SE to get their feet wet with a fall delay to March would not be a surprise. A release date announcement of some sort as quickly as possible would be good for business by pretty much cementing a monopoly for FFXV's release month. No one is going to want to go up against that.

Whatever. Just give me the demo already!

That's a reasonable analysis. I just think... like most things lately, bet on longer rather than shorter.

If it was ~1 year wait between demo and final 5-10 years ago, now I expect 1.5 years, at least. Plus the whole 10 year development means everyone involved expects an elongated timetable.

And let's just look at Ground Zeros to Phantom Pain.... that's 1.5 years as well.

Man they really spoilered 100% of the content of the DEMO before the release... if this is the way they'll handle the full game from now on I'll be a bit pissed off. There's really too much informations floating around by this point -.-'

amazing artstyle btw. Even if the lighting really got downgraded heavely and now everything looks more soulless and dead. Maybe Ps4 couldn't handle it afterall.

They are developing the game on PC to an idealized spec set and then scaling it down.... It's kinda inevitable that it doesn't look the same.

That Steam version you play in a few years on a tricked out 2020 PC is gonna look amazing, though. Or the PS5 version you buy in an expensive collectors edition.

I asked this question before in this thread but after reading through it, it hasn't been answered so I'm gonna ask again:
How long will the code be available for the digital version of type 0? When I Google it I only get "limited time".

2 months iirc

IGN's preview suggested that the party A.I was actually reasonably competent. I still hope that there will be some kind of Gambit-like system in the final game.

Ok, that's getting a bit crazy. It sounds cool, but I've always enjoyed FF for its kind of casualness. This is a big departure.

I don't think the comparison is very apt. For one, Dark Souls is actually punishing/rewarding for every little actions you do, down to accumulating the souls and use in bonfire, all gone if character dies until they're manually retrieved, whereas in XV the EXP is safely locked away to be used in camp and dying doesn't take the soft EXP away.

Do you really believe that the Steam version will release the same year as PS4/One versions ? :p

Nothing under 18 months would really surprise me but it absolutely has to be before holiday 2016 or it'll get buried in the huge annual series releases. Though even after E3 2016 would be pretty embarrassing. TGS is probably the safest bet for a release date. Ground Zeros was a weird release. It was an obvious cashgrab demo but at a lower price the experience could be argued as reasonable. We're not -officially- paying for the XV demo, although it would have been hard to justify Type-0 at $60 without it. If you want to call it a premium fee I'd say it's in the $10-20 range. For the apparent amount of content in the demo that sounds like a reasonable deal. Plenty of the XV discs are going to end up on ebay with a grey used market that Gamestop can't get its hands on for once.

Remember the conspiracy theories that XIII had NA/EU dates delayed from JP because the 360 version was holding it up? If there's even a week's difference for XV people are going to cry out the same thing. SE probably has had internal rumblings about wishing they had a chance to scrap the XB1 version or not, but they're obviously deep in contract. If pre-orders for Type-0 are any indication the console ratio is going to be even more lopsided than last generation. If development has really been on PC it's probably not as hard to justify, though.

Wasn't this already confirmed in that stream from last month?

As far as I recall, there was only a slight mention of a system kind of like Gambit system of FFXII in an interview, but wasn't really expanded on. I just hope Tabata was referring to an actual system that lets us customize party AI actions and not the weapon actions for Noctis.

Dat Shenmue vibe, i wonder if the game will have weapon shops.

And seriously some of these videos changes my view on the current battle system because those people know how to actually play, the famitsu video is an example of a horrible video.

It looks good. Never judge a demo's performance as if it will be the real deal; not these days, anyway.

Graphics may take a hit.. or people will tolerate the occasional frame skip; I didn't think it was that bad. It's still a little ways off, and optimization is usually the last step of things.

He was. That's going to be in, but it's one of the things that not in the demo.

I must say the artstyle in the Duscae region really reminds me of half life 2. And that's a really good thing.

I think you guys are being way too paranoid. Just because the game's been focusing on a demo location for the past 5 months doesn't mean it's the only location in the game.

If it's a FF game in name, we should expect at least 30 hours minimum of gameplay for a main storyline.

At least that's where my expectations lie.

30 hours for the main story is fair, with some of the FF games spanning 80~ish hours to max everything out, etc. I don't see FFXV falling short of those expectations.

With all the fetch quests they ll pump in you can bet it being an 80 plus game lol...

Lighting looks like it is still in, vegetation shadowing on the grass may have taken a hit though. Daylight scenes looked a bit washed out in the intial TGS footage. I personally think this game has some pretty accurate lighting compared to any of its open world peers.

The sun light in the initial reveal of Duscae was way more warm, soft and opaque.

Well there is no discs, as it's just a code but yeah I could see them shooting up to Ground Zero prices on eBay if day one editions are scarce.

Since PS4/XB1 development is so similar, it's definitely if their best interest to develop for both. They've stated it's so easy to port that the cost of developing an XB1 version must be worth the return they will see, even though it will be significantly smaller than the PS4 version.

I could totally see them skipping Japan with an XB1 version, though. The costs of pressing the japanese box alone will likely cost more than the 20 or so people who will pick it up in Japan for xb1.

How do we know which shot in the press kit is PS4? http://press.na.square-enix.com/products/768p251/tech-demo-vol1

They all look blurry in the latest set.

You'd think they'd make sure they upload technically sound images, not ones with obvious tearing

Was there any mention of exclusive content for completing the demo for the full game?

That probably won't happen, it would be a pretty shitty thing to lock content for users that don't want to spend $60 to access this demo considering they've not announced its availability elsewhere. You had to buy the demo for FF8 back in the day, it was never made available elsewhere.

I don't see it. Look at the 50 minute footage published a week ago. The lighting from the sun and how it disperses through the trees looks quite accurate. More so than the line beams that most games do anyway.

Have you got a comparison which proves your point?
