Man, i really don't get the guys who go apeshit over someone disliking this game. If it was some holy mecca of traditional game design then sure, but it's a product that no one would have cared about in 2005.

Genuine thanks for the reply, I'm out of time so hopefully we can continue at a later date.

The conversation between the two characters shows discomfort with the situation on Galahad's part. How do you know it's remorseless exactly?

If Galahad breaks off and decides not to pursue his only chance of solid evidence of the conspiracy, is he not endangering himself and all he holds dear (the order itself, friends, Royalty, innocents and country) by doing so? The character is alao fallible and is not what I'd call a "good man". I would also like to put forward his (and all of the order/elite) hinted at narrative of classism - from his perspective perhaps he values worth of life differently? I have to say I sided with the rebels perspective, and by the end of the game perhaps the cabal of self-serving and corrupt vampires is exposed for what it is.
He doesn't even know if it's his only chance. Literally for all he knows, he's just being used to kill the company. He knows nothing else and doesn't even believe in the conspiracy to begin with. It's not a good plot dude. I mean hell, the whole beginning of the game contradicts Isabeau's character. She was one of the most vocal people during the trial scene yet in the intro she's all teary eyed like "Don't do this!" They did not do a good job with the story despite the actors giving it their all.

Huh? You're talking about a time when generic-ass Kill.Switch recieved a lot of attention for being innovative, by simply having cover in a third-person shooter. And when Gears of War took E3 by storm...

And then Uncharted 1 in 2007?

The ocean has less salt than this thread. So real.

Its ok to like things the world at large loathes. Even if that thing is AAA schlock trash with very little merit. "Art by corporation" as the review states sums up everything I hate about AAA gaming at large and I feel it is a very fitting way to describe the order.

Love PreRec, kinda wish they'd ditch the gawdy backdrops though.

I agree this was not good. To play devil's advocate (again?), perhaps speaking from instinct and force of habit of a loved one?

Probably my biggest gripe with the story indeed.

Really? You mean the same year that Resident Evil 4 came out?

What counted as "QTE-infested" in 2005? Shenmue and Resident Evil 4 and... ?

You don't seem to get the point. There was next to nothing to the extent of The Order 1886.

God of war actually required some participation from the player.

I never said anything about video review. I responded to people saying the game is shit BASED on the review without ever playing it. My whole point is judging games by reviews without playing them is stupid. And the bits I watched from the video sucked, why would I watch it as a whole.
If people say "I played 3 Chapters of the Order and they sucked, I don't like it", bless them. People saying "the game is shit I watched a review that says it is shit!" should maybe actually play the game before judging it.

You know what, I never had anything about The Order or against its defenders; After all its just a game and people have the right to like whatever they like.

But this fucking bothers me.

Why the fuck do I have to drop £45 to actually see if I will like it or not?

Jeez, some of you are so rich to a point its clouding any judgment you had.

/rant

Really glad I didn't listen to this review. I'm happy I bought it. I usually never listen to critics aboout movies, music or games. Rather form my own opinion.

In a pre-Gears of War world, The Order: 1886 would have blown everyone's fucking minds, "QTE-infestation" or not. I don't know why we're talking hypothetical historical scenarios, though.

Again, it's not a review. The only person who called it a review is OP. This is two guys talking about a game, whole point of PR and RLM.

Not that you care anyway, you're posts in this thread have replied to no one and just been about how you enjoyed the game regardless of other people. Good for you guy.

In the era of PS2 graphics, it would have most likely been hailed as a stain on gaming.

Cause i like talking about hypothetical scenarios?

I think you're wrong, because of this game:

SAK6D2m.jpg

That piece of shit got more than decent reviews, and it barely has any gameplay. Far less than The Order, even.

After reading this thread everyone is entitled to their opinion, not every one will agree with it, but people that use the words defense force or defenders make me laugh every single time, the whole terminology sounds so childish. Same goes for people that use the word haters, there are people who like the game and people who don't.

The Order is on of my favorite games this gen, others hate it, that's cool, we all like different things. And I just want to say that I appreciate posters that actually go in depth about why they dislike something or why they like something, leads to good conversation. Posters like CrossingEden or antitrop who I may not completely agree with when it comes to this game, but it's hard to argue with someone who articulates their criticisms well.

But it doesn't help that at the absolute pinnacle of mainstream video game writing sits a big, fat, lump of hot, steamy mediocrity.

Are you trying to turn a random thread into a "I don't like that [game] (IIRC TLOU) is universally praised. Let's piss on it!" thread again?

Nah, I disagree. Nobody's raving about this game because tbe gameplay isn't anything new, but in the PS2 era it would have all been new. People would like it a lot Id guess.

Do you get my drift?

Well, you've got people jumping in here openly admitting they didn't watch the video but feeling compelled to stand up for The Order.

What would you call it?

All other points aside, there seems to be some confusion as to whether some of the criticisms are "this game uses QTEs" rather than "this game uses QTEs poorly"

Really glad I didn't listen to this review. I'm happy I bought it. I usually never listen to critics aboout movies, music or games. Rather form my own opinion.
You would buy a car before informing yourself via reviews and tests?
Never even heard of it. That says alot about the game for me.
Yeah it says alot about your knowledge of games, nothing about the game though. It's also called
Fahrenheit, but psssh. :P

I don't know what I would call them, but going around saying the Order defense force just sounds a bit childish. I haven't watched it myself either. But I have seen many reviews already on the game, I can imagine what they are gonna say. I'll check it out when I have 30 minutes to spare tonight, but I don't feel like the review will be different than anything else I've seen. Never checked these guys out, but many seem to like them, so I will see what it's all about tonight.

There were also people jumping into Order threads saying that the game was shit after watching a Youtube video without the game being released or them having played it, what should we call them?

Is there something else to the game that they didn't show or go over that gives the game a story that makes sense, or gives the game characters, or provides depth to the gameplay? It seems pretty conclusive.

I played lot's of popular games from that era. None of my friends ever owned this or talked about it. Im more inclined to believe that it's just a game that no one cared about.

I agree wit their review, but I will say the graphics and how nice and meaty the guns feel made this well worth the $3 redbox rental I did. Finished in about 6 hours on hard.

Doesn't matter what you believe or not, a lot of people cared. It's a known game by Quantic Dream which got a HD remaster in january.

don't skip to the end, seeing them scream "it's garbage" and setting the game on fire for laughs will seem like they're just jumping on a hate bandwagon.

watch the review, see them pick it apart logically, and totally justify their position in calling it garbage.
As someone who's played the game several times, I don't care how well they break down their opinions; that spiel just seems immature and unnecessary to me.

Care to back that up somehow? Cause the only sales figures that i can find says otherwise.

Must have had some pretty big online sales back then.

Yet it doesn't diminish the points they make throughout the video at all.

It's sad the amount of people dismissing the video because of this. It's just one of the things they do, which is destroy shitty things in a funny fashion. The Order was just next on the block.

So... let's say other 10392 websites or podcasts review this game.

Will there be another 10392 topics here on NeoGaf?

Just don't come into the thread if it bothers you that much?

Really quickly, are their reviews always this awkward, is that just the style they use? The cutting back and forth between the two people is really strange and I'm assuming the other guy isn't there or maybe he's recording while one person gives what they thought about the game and then they splice it together.

It's for fun, people are allowed to have it. Why wouldn't you watch it? I think it's interesting to hear arguments in favour and against a game. I love listening to reviews of RLM/PR or Matthewmatosis and watch every of their videos, even if they dislike something I really like. I listen to the issues they have with a game and a movie and can see where they're coming from and why they would think this way like 100% of the time. I am still able to enjoy the same thing while at the same time understanding why someone else wouldn't.

If you exclusively like to listen to people completely agreeing with you in how fantastic something is, than you might as well watch no reviews/comments/whatever at all.

They're clearly sat across from each other, you can hear them laughing in the background during the cutaways.

Also, for the 100th time it feels, it's not a review. Where does it say review on the video?

It says review on the title of this thread, I just clicked on the link and started watching. And when one guy's talking and the other says something he sounds like he's far away so I dunno if their sitting across from each other.

If you don't like it, ask the mods to unlock the Order Review thread, which got locked because people decide to go to conspiracy theory territory instead of talking about reviews.

Else, new thread for new news.

Really just watch the video and get back to us. This line of "I've not watched the video, love the game and disagree with what you're saying" is just stupid.

Really? That's all you've got?

Whatever, if you want to call it a serious review done by two serious video game reviewers, then go for it. If you knew anything about how Red Letter and Previously Recorded critique games and films, you'd really think otherwise.

When did I say that? And I am watching the video at 11 minutes in, that's why I asked that question about the weird cuts.
