Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Yeah, seems like they think the game is a bit technically rough at the moment, but has a lot of potential. I think nobody can disagree with the assertion that graphics engine has a lot of potential, it is whether they can optimise it enough.

I would be totally ok, that for the full game they delay it 2 or 3 months to bug squash and optimize it, like CD Projekt is doing with the Witcher 3. I have waited 9 years and probably 10 years by the time it comes out or the release date, but I could wait 2 or 3 more months, if this has to happen.

I'm just really happy that the main thing people were concerned over (the battle system) has been met pretty much with universal positivity, from people who've actually played the demo.

Hype.

They can feel their time in the sun has come to an end.

Every species can smell its own extinction. The last ones left won't have a pretty time with it.

Since Type-0's release on PSP, I've said to myself that if it EVER gets localized, I'd buy it. But being a console man more than a portable/mobile man, the fact it was announced and I could PLAY it in my living room, on my big HD TV on my PS4... SOLD! FFXV, while great, is just added whip cream on top of the sweet, SWEET experience.

I wouldn't mind something similar to the Tales series, or "certain accessories/equipment" actually changing the appearance of the character(not all equipment, only certain "special" equipment).

It kinda makes me have contempt towards other "fellow" gamers. It really IS a pickle being like us, just wanting a fuckin "great game", not caring if it's the most cutting edge on the graphic's front. FFXV, from the look of it, the world, is my dream come true. FFT-0 is a game I've been wanting to play for a LONG ass time and regardless of people saying it doesn't look fitting to be on the next gen(er, THIS gen) consoles, looking at the original(not the emulator, but PSP graphics), it looks great. Not The Order-level of graphics, but who care? I don't. I really hate this tug of war, "damned if you do, damned if you don't" thing regarding graphics vs gameplay, and when devs try to appease both, it just doesn't seem like they can do "enough". It's been stated many, MANY times, but it rings true nonetheless. This is why we can't have good things .... because of THESE people(indecisive bastards). It's hard to cater to an audience when that audience don't know what the HELL they want in the first place, and when you try to address all their concerns, they find MORE shit to be unhappy about.

Yes I really hope we can change outfit...

i'm seeing posts about spoilers and have no idea what's going on lol. i'm afraid to watch anything until i beat the demo.

You want them to waste more time improving the performance of the demo? rather they work more on the full game.

it's not a simple case of just cutting an area from the full game, demos take alot of preperation.

There have been some concerns over the camera and the lock-on button being not very reliable, often resulting in enemy stepping away from a standard combo and Noctis flailing at air, but these are more technical issues and not problems related to design itself, so they could be sorted out hopefully.

something i did notice on the densetsu video was that ignis kept getting in front of noctis combos, pushing noctis back and so he started missing. it was happening alot. i hope it wont be too much of a problem.

Not sure if anyone's asked this yet, but I couldn't find it through searching.

Is Square going to disable shareplay for the demo? I'm fine with throwing myself on the grenade here (as I've wanted to play FFT0 in english for a long time) but I have two or three friends who are very interested in playing the demo as well.

SHareplay is disabled. You can stream the demo tho.

Saw the presentation and read impressions from Kotaku and Polygon.
I don't know what to think about FF XV. I don't know who this game is for, but so far I think it's not for me and that sucks. Half of what they're showing is fantastic but the other half kills all my excitement.
Does anyone feel the same way? I hope the demo will convince me.

I was so excited for this game when I saw the reveal at E3 2013. Then all my hopes and dreams were immediately crushed by a JPop Brotrip with only 1 playable character.

Squeenix done lost me on this one. Possibly for good.

I think you forgot that this was a "road movie" inspired game since Nomura said so in 2008.

I understand how you feel. I think I'm like that as well but I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt. All we've seen so far is combat and duscae.

I think people are worried about the roadtrip aspect of the game for nothing. It's a Final Fantasy game after all, there'll be big plot twists. They aren't taking vacation while driving across the country, it's a game about war too, like Final Fantasy IX and XII.

I pre-ordered Type-0 back in September, and just now I felt like checking on my order and I noticed this on the promotion description on the Amazon Type-0 page.
Pre-order FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD and secure the FINAL FANTASY XV -EPISODE DUSCAE- demo. The demo will be playable on March 17th and will only be included within the Day One Edition of FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0 HD as a downloadable code (the code will be included in the product packaging). Offer valid when shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time.

Should I be worried? Should I pre-order this somewhere else instead? I don't know how they could terminate a download code included in the box...

Isn't that just standard message regarding promotions? There is no way amazon can get rid of the code since it's included in the package.

I was talking about the full game... I even said it in my post.

sorry, i dont know how i missed that.
let's see how the game is shaping up before wanting to delay it though. Square Enix are usually pretty good at ironing out technical stuff. I don't think there are ever any major bugs in FF series, and as for frame rate it's usually pretty stable too.

Amazon cancelling the vouchers for FFXV demo on their Type-0 preorders would raise such a stink that subsequently people ordering cooking oil via Amazon would get cooking oil that smells like manure.

It's not going to happen.

Wasn't the idea that they have to go into hiding so they disappear from the city(I could have sworn I remember that from one of the earlier descriptions of the story)? I imagine they are going to be "surviving" out there. Meaning dealing with being tracked and chased by the invading army.

That's what I thought too. Okay, was just wondering why they would even include that in the description.

Its all good. But yeah, I am just saying if push comes to shove I would rather them delay it if technical issues persist, which I don't think will happen.

This is because it's a first print edition. They're expected to terminate the promotion after the first print, anyway.

You're still getting the demo if you've pre-ordered it.

Nope, they're basically just covering their asses in the event that someone orders it three weeks from now and gets a second printing copy without the demo.

Totally.
Hell, recently Tabata said that in an interview that some darker scenes are unavoidable, even if the game will probably have a 16 PEGI rate (since it's now a mainline title).

But i'm sure these doubts will vanish come E3, when they'll definitely go back to story-focused trailers.

It's probably not as simple as that. They won't just abandon their city and keep running away forever, they'll probably try so solve the whole situation, or get dragged into it at least.

Yeah, people should worry less about the whole roadtrip thing, this is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Can't wait for E3.

Edit: oops, sorry for the double post.

Yeah the story trailers are what I miss the most. I'm glad we've been able to focus on the playable demo but now I really want to go back to the crazy kind of stuff we saw in the E3 2013 trailer

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that! I was just saying that's the premise for their "roadtrip" because the fellow you quoted made it sound peaceful. I know there will obviously be story development and heavy involvement with being back in the city. I was agreeing with you.

I am glad the demo focus is pretty much over. It should be a fun E3 with hopefully new story trailers and stuff.

Oh sorry, my bad then. And I agree with what you're saying, the story development will be there we just don't know what will happen and that's a good thing =p

Totally agreed. They are so close, why trip at the finish line? I'd prefer that they wait to announce a release date until they're confident they can hit it, but even if they announce it and push it back, I will be patient. It sounds like people are happy with the battle system and the open world, so if they get it technically polished, they'll really have a winner on their hands.

I am not worried; with few exceptions, Final Fantasy has never been harmed by technical problems.

I'll probably level up my characters to 99. I wonder how many hours will it take lol

Haha based on all the videos it looks like the Behemoth fight and cave areas can't really be done unless you're at a higher level. I can't believe I'll more than likely be level grinding in a demo.

I think many falsely interpret "roadtrip" as a carefree vacation with friends. It's like in any other FF where a bunch of people travel together through the world from place to place. FFX's pilgrimage was basically a "roadtrip", too, just without a car^^

Expect a lot of dramatic, grim events, as Nomura explained in the past and Tabata recently reconfirmed.

My guess is a release window at E3. Accompanied with a big ol story trailer. I think a release date would be announced at TGS or Jump Festa

Yup, sounds plausible.

Yeah, same for FFIX's first quarter while you're trying to get to Lindblum.

Thought I had lost interest in FF after the last few games but those videos have caught my attention.

Just pre-ordered Type-O mainly for the demo but it's also the only PSP game I wanted to play but never got around to so hopefully it still interests me enough to play. At worst it can't be worse than any of the last-gen FF games I hope.

Watching some of these videos and hearing Noctis talk... I don't know, he just sounds SO weird to me. When he is talking, I'm not even realizing it's Noctis talking. I don't know if this is due to being so used to his Japanese voice or if the Batman-sounding Noctis just feels very wrong. Maybe I just need more time with it.
