Miss Turlington ran without a phone in that video, so while the functionality might be limited (GPS tracking), it should still work - counting steps, heart rate, calories burnt.

Wait for Gen 2 I guess. I know I will. But even then, would I want to take my 1000+$ watch on a run. I just don't think the watch shouldn't be aimed at runners.

I wonder how far the connection to the iPhone can be? Normally I leave my phone in the locker at the gym but would love to use apple watch. I wonder how offline / no connection mode works.

I don't want to be cynical, but any 100 $ GPS-watch can do the same.

but will that watch allow you to change songs playing on your phone or control your intervals on your running app?

just because it doesn't seem to be right for you, doesn't mean there isn't a pretty broad niche that AppleWatch fits into.

I would think it's reasonable to assume it become just a dumb old watch at that point.

But you can always muck around with the Mickey Mouse fascia!

How does Hey Siri work when you've got a bunch of Apple Watch users in a room?

At least on the iPhone it's only enabled when plugged in.

Can't wait to see the somber Instagrams full of cracked screened Watches.

They should just start selling them with cracked screens at launch.

Does anyone actually do this stuff?

I've used Siri for reminders a few times, but does anyone really check the weather forecast?

eh none of this sounds compelling. cool that it's woven into the system cleanly I guess, but if I need to see sports scores or weather updates at the drop of the moment I can... pull out the phone that's feeding the watch the information?

edit: lol come on, do you really need to be reminded to stand up.

I don't disagree. Still the serious, but not too serious runner niche seems too small to dedicate 10 minutes in the conference to.

It's weird how pretty much everything else they make is thin and classy looking, but the watch comes out fat and ugly. I don't wear watches, so I've never been their market for this anyway. I am more inclined to buy a sports band though to track my exercise, which I've basically been doing with a phone up until now.
