Pillars of Eternity Beta - Torment: Tides of the Beetles

I don't know how I'll find time to play this, Bloodborne and Monster Hunter 4

In the end, I decided to play Bloodborne first and shelf PoE for a couple of weeks. I debated it for the longest time, but I think it'll be for the best. It will give me time to read the guidebook and see what you guys are saying about the state of the game. Who knows, Obsidian might even release a quick patch or two and fix any major problems / bugs. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid any & all spoilers.

By the way, who's making the OT?

AFAIK he's only tangentially related to Numenera, compared to Pillars.

He seems tangentially related to all of these projects, IMO, which is disappointing. They rewrote all his characters in Pillars so they're not even his anymore. I seriously backed the three games based on his involvement, and then they bury him to some degree. Hoping Torment is different.

Same here. I'm more excited about Pillars of Eternity than Bloodborne, but there's something special about playing a Souls game on release, whereas it won't make much of a difference if I play PoE on release or a few weeks later.

Pillars of Eternity |OT| This isn't Torment: Tides of Numenera

I feel like the same thing will happen there too. Limited involvement, advisory role, etc.

I keep reading rumors that Avellone will be heading up his own project soon so we can always hope that it's a self-published or crowdfunded RPG so we don't have to worry about him diluting his style.

so I got this bug (no, not a beetle) and I think I'm screwed.

I was exploring the Dyrford Ruins for a bit. Killed some cultists, spotted some traps (but couldn't disable them), went back outside and decided to return to the Dracogen Inn for some needed rest.

Edge of the map, travel, go to Dyrwood Village... "it will take you 0 seconds"... ok?

Then I'm spawned in front of the church in the village, and all my characters are stuck. Fuck.

Reloaded an earlier save, tried to go to the Gorge. "6 hours"... that seems fine to me.

Spawned in the face of a cliff, and all my characters are stuck.

ARGH.

so here's the bugged save file in case somebody wants to take a look. You just have to exit the map and go to the village or the gorge.

Just curious, if anyone here knows if there's an option to disable the FoW, for this?. Love the look of this - looks right up my ally. I've never been a big fan of the FoW, though. I like to admire the views/vistas, etc.

If anyone can let me know, I'd appreciate it =)

I bought the game off GMG, will they send me a product key on release? Didn't receive one with the purchase.

Yes. Well to be more exact I believe they send them when they get them which is usually on release day, but depending on the publisher might be a few days before release as well.

Tying it to resting always felt off. Breaks pace of play, strains in-game credulity with rest spam, etc.

Exactly. I'm playing NWN2 right now and I'd just rest after ever fight if I didnt have to waste time rebuffing. And having the check be the tedium of recasting spells isnt saying anything good about the system.

I loathe Vancian casting but I do really like the per encounter stuff they've done.

Yeah I think the per encounter stuff makes the whole system work a lot better for a videogame. also like the fact that all classes have active stuff to do.

Still kinda weirded out by the attributes in this game. Things like might being the bottom line for damage for all classes seems strange.

Vancian casting is very strategic and helps make the spellcaster types more balanced and interesting to play.
Rest spamming can be solved - I think PoE's solution is excellent for example, per encounter stuff being a big part of it.

I wonder if the Might dialogue checks are written to account for the fact that might isn't inherently physical.

There's a cheat command to turn off fog-of-war but it'll also disable achievements, if you care about that.

I've been browsing through this site here for female portraits. Not all of them are in the right art-style, so it takes some digging if you specifically want that look, but there are tags on all the pictures to whittle it down.

http://char-portraits.tumblr.com/

I've narrowed my own portrait down to 5 potential candidates. The concept still being a rapier/estoc-wielding Vailian Republic Noble Cipher:

Went through the whole site, twice, picked out the ones I thought looked best/fit the style of PoE's portraits. Granted all will require some degree of cropping and of course resizing, though a few would also need some other minor tweaks, like new backgrounds, to fit the style of PoE's portraits and blend in as much as they can.

They do vary a good deal with how close they match, I tried to pick the ones that had similar styles and the subjects faces were posed in comparable ways to the game's portraits. I think the majority could stand in without sticking out too much, a few would fit in perfectly.

The tumbler has a whole lot more that are really good, but would clash a lot more with the game's companion and NPC portraits, but for those who don't mind that then there are certainly a ton of other really great character portraits there too choose from.
