Playing first board with alcohol. Having fun so far!
How fun would this be with only two people playing? Is the CPU cheap/infuriating? I remember my last Mario Party experience being frustrating, though I don't remember which game it was.
Make sure you prepare/provide plenty of snacks and alcohol. Apparently, Mario Party+Booze=Fun Barfy Times With Friends! This sounds hilarious with friends, having a few people over tonight and looking forward to making my buddies lose all their stars. I got the game for 50 bucks with the Mario Amiibo though, 40USD seems like it'll be the right price for this.

In general, the CPU's in a typical Mario Party game can rubber-band back between being either incredibly inept to being down right cheap at times. In Mario Party 3, for instance, Donkey Kong's CPU level was set to easy, but he was able to (somehow?) kick my friends asses.
As for answering your question, it's always better to have a group of four (now five, with the Bowser Party mode) friends whenever it comes to Mario Party. But the CPU characters should work fine for you & your pal.

Mine too, the mini-games are pretty good.Played all three of the main modes and I enjoyed them all.
This may be one of my favorite Mario Party's already.

Agreed on both ends. Mario Party 3 & 9 both have my favourite collection of minigames, and this installment definitely has earned it's spot on my favourite minigames list.Mine too, the mini-games are pretty good.
No problem, man. I'm glad that I was able to provide everyone enough information about the game, and how it clicks. I was lucky that a friend had got a copy of the Japanese release in late February, so we have been playing it with a bunch of friends, including several "Mario Party Down" sessions. Except for me, as I don't drink alcohol.Sounds great, thanks! Nice OT, it's definitely selling me on it.
Wait... This game still requires 4 Wii Remotes for play? Can't use Pro Controllers?
I just bought the bundle and looked on the back. I hate Wii Remotes because I only use them every few months, if that, and the batteries always go from full to dead every time. Ugh!

How does Mario Party 10 compare to 9? It seems like MP 10 is worse in some cases from the impressions so far? And if that's true, I may just spring for MP9 instead.
*my only experience with MP has been MP8
We're gonna have a party, FUCK YOU!
I keep reading that with only one Amiibo you can unlock pieces of the other boards by collecting tokens. Some clarification please.
1. When you are unlock these new pieces are they permanent? Next time you start up with a different Amiibo can you switch a quarter of the board without spending a token.
2. Can you replace the entire board of your Amiibo? Let's say I use a Mario Amiibo to use the Mario board can I then swap out all four quarters for four quarters of the Donkey Kong board?
3. Can you get permanent access to all other character boards this way as long as you have a single Amiibo?

Yep, I would also recommend starting with Mario Party 9 first, as while MP10 isn't a bad game, there are a lot of features that are not present. The minigames are rock solid, and the game is quite a looker.Definitely buy MP9 before you buy this one IMHO. MP9 has the best minigames collection out of any MP to date. The car/linear boards is certainly different from past installations, but I believe that between MP9 and MP10, MP9 handled it better. There's actually a reason to be a captain in that game. (You get to choose minigames that you're better at, you get to handle events throughout the board, etc.).
MP10 is still fun. I've only gotten a chance to play it for about 3 hours last night. My initial impressions are that it's not quite as great as MP9 was, but it's still enjoyable. Bowser Party mode is just a bit disappointing in execution. Seemed seriously rushed. Those minigames in particular aren't very polished. There's one that requires you to blow into the mic, and it's difficult to score points as Bowser AND it exhausts me lol. I feel light headed after it.
The air-ship level was frustrating in MP10. Every turn you have to wait for the ships to move. Halfway through you are placed on a railway that nearly guarantees you lose more than half your stars. Eh.
Anyway, MP9 first, but don't ignore MP10 in the long run. It has promise. The minigames are better than I initially thought. The boss battles aren't as great as MP9's though, although they do last longer most definitely. Also Bowser Jr. minigames are all but absent... There's just 2 you can play in a separate mode, and they are EXTREMELY lackluster lol.
Does the game require Wiimote Plus? I have three Wiimotes but only one is a plus and one of the others sports the adapter.
Just got home, I'm packing, and I am exhausted. That being said...

It took 12 hours but it was worth it.
That depends. If you are a fan of the style of partying that Mario Party 9 had offered, then you're good to go. If you want to access the Amiibo Party Mode, as long as you have a Mario-themed Amiibo (either from the Smash or Super Mario Bros. line), then you will be fine.Picking this up later tonight. Do I really need the Amiibo version, or will the vanilla version give me the standard MP experience?

Luckily you only need to scan it once for future playthroughs. The mode is permanent after the first scan. There's only one version of the game, but the 'amiibo mode' unlocks by scanning a figure onto the gamepad. That said, you can't play the 'classic' mario game board without owning at least 1 amiibo.

Also a heads up Bowser in Amiibo mode is OP. You are bound to win if you use him since Bowser Space is good and all mini-games are Bowser games.

My apartment is practically a liquor store, this isn't my first time playing Mario Party. Waiting on the damn UPS truck, then it's time to get it started.

Nintendo, this is how you should release your retail games from now on so you can sell big. With LE bundles, and amiibo figures.
omg what if they do something similar with Splatoon? Wich I'm 98% sure they will. Nothing can stop the amiibo hype train!

This helps a lot, thanks. Might just pick up MP9 in that case. Feel free to post extended impressions once you get more time with the game. I'm surprised that after having done the overhaul with the car system, they didn't manage to polish and improve it from their first try.Yep, I would also recommend starting with Mario Party 9 first, as while MP10 isn't a bad game, there are a lot of features that are not present. Just got this, how do you unlock Spike and Bowser Jr.?
For Spike & Toadette, you have to earn enough party points and spend them at Toad's shop to unlock them both. It honestly doesn't take too long, and you can earn enough coins after a couple of rounds. However, to the best of my knowledge, Bowser Jr. isn't an unlockable character in this game.
By the way, guess what had arrived at my door step just now?![]()
I am not as thunk as you drink I am...I'm glad everyone is drunk and enjoying the game but can someone please clarify how amiibos work?

Play Bowser Party. Bowser uses the Gamepad, the other player uses a Wii Remote. Granted, I played by myself but don't remember asking for a Wii Remote in that mode against the CPU.Really disappointed right now. Didn't realize each player needed a wiimote. Figured one could use the game pad. There are two of us and only one wiimote. Really don't want to buy another.

Amiibos in MP10 make horse armor sound like an expansion pack, you can't even scan your friends amiibos to unlock a board, and even if you got all amiibos to have access to all content the game has at all times, you still have to scan amiibos every turn, wth Nintendo? It's like going to the market and clicking on purchase every time I want to use a dlc weapon, except this is 10 times worse than that.
This could of been one of the best mario parties and I had a lot of fun playing Bowser party, but the lack of content and the amiibo party fiasco make me want to hate it.
