Mario Party 10 |OT| - "We're just having four much fun!"

Sorry if this is a silly question, but do you need ambiios for ambiio party?

Yeah, just one to be able to play it, but players without amiibos are limited to not being able to use "Tokens", which are kind of like items (though there's also regular dice block items).

So other players don't need an ambiio if I have one? I just tried playing two player with my girlfriend but the game wouldn't let her choose a character.

You can play amiibo party with one amiibo, yes - you might have to pick the character for her, the character select screens in this game seem really finicky with that stuff.

The other characters, human or CPU, appear as cardboard cut-outs.

Jesus Christ this game blows ass.

We gave it a fair shake. We really did. This was with alcohol even.

It just doesn't cut it. The actual gameplay on the board is just too susceptible to nothing happening. When 4 to 6 turns go by with nothing other than rolling the die, you know something is wrong. The mini games themselves seem decent, but their frequency is just below abysmal. A full "Mario Party" mode game may only have 3 to 4 mini games, which is exactly what happened with us (excluding the bosses). This is unacceptable. We tried "Bowser Party" as well, which somehow managed to be even more barren of mini-games than the standard mode. It seriously got to the point that no matter who was winning, we were praying for people to land on mini-game spaces just so we could actually, you know, PLAY something other than rolling virtual die.

The competition aspect is non existent. I was skeptical of people blanket judging the car mechanic, but at the end of the day no one gave a shit about what was happening because we were all moving at the same pace. It truly felt like a game for five year olds. I can't even believe it, but even MP8 was more entertaining than this. I never make the effort to return games I buy, but this one is absolutely going back to the store immediately since I am certain we will not be playing it again. Maybe I can put my credit forward for Bayonetta.

One of the few things I've ever witnessed completely deflate the excitement of a room full of 20-somethings. What a waste.

I'm kind of amazed at how polarizing this game is - I've also played it with a group of '20-somethings' and at least Bowser Party was a riot every time.

When I've played minigame frequency is all over the map, there are some bad games, but the opposite also happens where you play more than one a turn due to spaces or being literally thrown back into Bowser. I dunno, I just haven't had that many bad games really, but it is weird they did it the way they did.

I find it hard to recommend Mario Party games to people, it seems like a series (and by individual game) that people either love or hate exclusively. I can't think of many other game series' like that.

I've been having a great time with the game. The Airship and Bowser maps make for very intense games, losing half your stars can be devastating.
I wish they fleshed out Amiibo mode and made it an actual classic mode, with it's own set of complex maps, that could have been amazing.
I'm really enjoying the minigames, even if some of them don't give a very good idea of what to do in the instructions.

I don't think this tops Mario Party 2, but I prefer it to the Wii releases, including 8. Best modern Mario Party.

Yeah, what's up with that? At the very least a list of the controls or a blurb that didn't have to scroll would have made way more sense. The reverse minigames you get from Bowser even assume you've played the game before, just saying "make sure to lose!"

Given how Nintendo has handled their DLC packs for Mario Kart 8 and overall downloadable content for most of their releases, I hope they will include more complicated game boards in the future, as well as Amiibo Boards for Daisy, Waluigi, Toadette, and Spike.

After another great party evening with friends, I can definitely say that Nintendo Land >>>>>>>>>>>>> Wii Party U >>>>>>> Mario Party 10 in terms of fun.
