Bloodborne Press Preview Impressions (16/03/2015)

Should be happy my DL is going fast...but really makes no difference still have over 33 hours to go :-(

*high five*

I always started with a Strength build in the Souls series. With the emphasis on speed and aggressiveness in Bloodborne, I figured I'd do something different :)
Yea my Dark Souls build was a two handed strength build. I did do a dex build in Demons Souls while dual wielding but it made the game too easy. So I decided on skill for this game due to the combat differences.

Niche doesn't mean it won't sell. Bloodborne was created with an atypical gameplay philosophy in mind which goes against the normal AAA design.

your explanation doesnt make any sense, and no i dont know how to qualify a niche game.
i was just saying that because a lot of people were saying that the game would not sell because is niche

So what's your guys's history with the Souls games?

I've been a fan since Demon's Souls and bought the collector's edition on a totally blind whim. My first collector's edition of anything ever.

My first feeling was of dread. "This is good, it's nice and challenging but ... ehh"

Didn't know where to go and was unsure to want to explore. But I did, and eventually unlocked the Phalanx boss. Lost to it. Then learned about its weakness to fire and in a nerve wracking battle, defeated it. And it felt so good. It just clicked at that moment.

Felt so good to own the artbook/collector's edition too.

I unfortunately cant afford it this time around, but standard is good enough for me. Will probably upgrade sometime down the generation

So what's your guys's history with the Souls games?

I wasn't going to buy Demon's Souls but my friend was getting kinda excited for it. He sent me a Deluxe Edition on day one as a surprise. I hated the game at first to be honest. I thought it was terrible. But there was something that made me keep going back and eventually it just clicked and I ended up loving it. I ended up playing Dark Souls shortly after it came out and loved that as well. I never finished the game though.

I've been avoiding Bloodborne threads for a while now, but I couldn't escape the fact that it releases in two days as it has been referenced in so many threads the past few weeks. Just the mentions of it has been steadily building the hype.

So today I checked my emails on the off-chance I'd got an early dispatch. Nothing, but for some reason I decided to check my order on the website and then I saw something...

27th March. What? Must be some mistake surely? So off to wikipedia I go and I feel like I've been gut punched - 24th for the US, 25th for EU, 26th for Japan, and 27th for us in the UK.

I guess it's my own fault for going the blackout route, and first world problems and all that, but this fucking sucks :(

This will be a loooong week.

Almost imported Demon's Souls. Played it upon release in the US, hated it, sold it. Re Bought it 6 months later, loved it, beat it on NG++.

Dark Souls :NG+++

Dark Souls 2: One and done.

Ha, I remember the negativity with Demon's Souls when it was releasing in Japan. People laughed at the "cheesy" trailer, and I think commented on the technical state of the game. No one expected anything of it

Just watched a Live from Playstation stream of the beginning of the game for like 5 minutes before he got banhammered.

360 guy, so never played Demons.

Got Dark Souls in an impulse buy, due to the hype and how good the atmosphere looked. I was also in the mood for an action RPG. A friend of mine also bought it with me.
He left the game in the Parish lol. I managed to get to Sen Fortress, and although I was loving the game, I hit a wall and feel the game was too hard for me, so I dropped it.
Around ¿6? months later, I was bored and decided to give it another go. And then it was when it truly clicked for me. Beat the game, NG+, NG++, etc etc... And the game became my GOTY.

Obviously I got Dark Souls 2 and loved it too.

When does the embargo end? Figured the reviews would be up by now.

EDIT: Actually I thought today was the 23rd. Never mind on the above comment.

So what's your guys's history with the Souls games?

Came to them purely by coincidence. Dark Souls was my first Souls game. I didn't know about Demon's Souls, I hade no idea what kind of game that is. I just watched some Gamescom demos and the art direction and play style made me curious.
I liked what I've seen and so I pre-ordered the Limited Edition (it was also the first game I ever pre-ordered).

Then release day came and I played it. I came into the game completely unspoiled. I got hooked in the tutorial area already. The combat, the controls, the atmosphere, everything just felt "right". Like most I got my ass spanked by the skeletons in the graveyard until I found the right way to go.

The moment the game klicked with me is when I took the elevator down from the Undead Curch back to Firelink Shrine. Once I realized where I arrived again my mind was blown.

What followed was the most incredible gaming experience I had in the past 10 years. 6 months of addiction ensued.

Even though I own the Prepare To Die Edition on PC, my PS3 Limited Edition is still sitting in my cupboard. Keeping it as a reminder for the incredible time I had with the game.

Fan since Demon's,had to watch a lot of walkthroughs to get through the game but loved every minute of it,have DaS 1+2 on PC and now waiting for BB,thankfully the game hasn't been spoiled for me yet

So what's your guys's history with the Souls games?

A while after Demon's Souls came to the US I bought it. I got to the spider and gave up. I didn't try playing it again until after Bloodborne leaked. The hype for it made me give Demon's Souls another shot. I ended up loving it and then played Dark Souls 1 and 2 right after.

How is the framerate in the game? I know i should base anything on streaming material but, yeah it looked kinda shitty

Merely judging by the streams isn't the best way to do this. The streams I watched were so choppy it was impossible to tell at what framerate the game actually ran.

I know man I also said in my post that stream shouldnt be used as a means to judge framerate , that is why i am asking here, since some people already play the game.

So what's your guys's history with the Souls games?

Bought the game in a BB 'cause the cover art looked good and it has the artbook included. Started played and got stuck on 2-1 for weeks before giving up. Years after i gave a try again and after weeks i finally reached the Tower Knight, before being destroyed by him. I quit the game, put it on my shelf and forgot about it.

The last year, i finally decided to give it one last try; after weeks, i finally beat the Tower Knight and suddenly the game "clicked" for me. Finished in 2 weeks and fell absolutely in love with it. Bought Dark Souls the next day after i beat Demon's. Sadly, i've yet to finish it :(

Most indications point to a solid 30 with the occasional drops. Someone said it was the best performing FROM game, Souls wise.

all impressions ive seen from gaf/reddit folks who own the game say its mostly solid - improvement from say dark souls on consoles. definitely no blighttown level areas where the fr is constantly dropping.

Looks like I'll be playing this game next week. Brother bought it before he even owns a PS4 and is going to lend it to me. He'll be picking one up when Batman releases. Not sure what his rush was to pre-order this. Like myself he never played a Souls game. He's impatient like me and I actually can't imagine either of us beating the game.
I'll give it my best try. Wish me luck.

All i've heard is that it's the most stable console souls title yet.

Many thanks.

Sound good to me.

My history with the souls games.

I'd heard of demons souls but never really paid much attention to it. A year or so after it released I just blindly bought it online. Knew nothing about it.

My God did it kick my ass. Took me hours to just get past 1-1. I loved the hardcore nature of it. I plodded on cursing at every death. Finally after 60 gruelling hours I finished it to much jubilation :)

When Dark Souls was announced I couldn't believe it. I immediately set about gathering info on it and when I found out about its open world structure I thought this is going to be great.

I wasn't disappointed. I loved it and the fact it maintained it's difficulty. That took me around 60 hours to finish as well.

Dark Souls II I was excited for but I never played it as it released when my mum was terminally ill so I never ended up picking it up. I will be doing once I'm done with Bloodborne though :)

Where is everybody getting detailed info on the weapon choices? I'm assuming the spoiler thread but I don't want to go venturing through there.

Can anybody put up a quick summary or quote the relevant info here? (Or if that's already a few pages back and I missed it, just let me know where?)
