Pillars of Eternity Beta - Torment: Tides of the Beetles

Shinobi has apparently confirmed that it's the actual DLC, not just the trailer, that's coming tomorrow.

Just another thing to ignore.

Every PC gamer who gets DAI DLC rather than Pillars of Eternity deserves the future they are complicit in creating.

I find it hard to believe that any self-respecting RPG enthusiast would opt for anything Dragon Age: Inquisition related over the spiritual successor to the infinity engine games, and made by Obsidian no less. Then again, there are people out there who still hold BioWare in such high regard, despite DA2, ME3, and the recent DAI. Personally, I've put off every other game. Knowing how I play games, RPGs especially, I foresee myself spending at least a couple hundred hours for one or two play-throughs. This will likely mean putting off anything releasing in the next few months, including The Witcher 3.

I'll likely spend an hour or two in the character creation anyways, but I think I've decided on a male Human Cipher from the Living Lands, with a Scientist background. I'll likely experiment with firearms, but I'd like to see if a 2H Sword melee build is viable, despite the relatively weak nature of the Cipher. My party will likely include both a Fighter and Paladin to hold most of the line (engagement). I will be playing on Hard, and possibly Expert, although I may just turn all the helper functions off except for the AoE selection circles, but I haven't decided yet.

Pillars #4 on Steam Best Sellers! Was #7 an hour or two ago!!!

Will it topple Cities: Skylines??? *crosses fingers*

With all the people talking about Bloodborne and the DAI DLC, my hype for a real RPG are going through the roof.

The 26 can't come soon enough.

Or people have different tastes?

Anyways, I'm torn. I kind of want to go Rogue, but it seems so bland. Cipher and Chanter are all nice and shiny....

Could anyone post a spoiler thingy about which classes are represented among the companions? I'd like to know if any of my current options are not :P

barbarian, rogue, monk are not companion-classes

Been so long since I've been this hyped for a game. And I'm going almost blind into it, only wathced small parts of the PAX videos. This is going to be glorious.
Now to hope Nuuvem delivers the key on time. They didnt disappoint with the Cities Skylines one.

Nah brah. Nah. NAH.

Personally I'm going to be playing Bloodborne for the next couple of weeks I think, so I'm gonna be jumping in a bit later. I'm super excited for PoE but I'm super super fucking excited for BB so it's an easy choice for me.

And if PoE is a bit buggy on release, maybe they'll have ironed out most of the worst bugs by the time I start playing it.

It's been available on Steam for some time now, right? Maybe it spiking now means the streamers are paying off and selling people. I imagine hardcore fans either backed the KS or preordered long ago.

I'm going to try and make a Guts clone. Barbarian 2 handed swords only, maxing out Might and Resolve. Constitution will be the tricky one, I'll end up as a glass cannon methinks.

Streamers + YouTubers definitely has impact on sales leading up to the release. CohhCarnage and itmejp, two decent sized streamers, have been playing PoE today with total of ~7.8k viewers so that alone most likely has sold few copies.

Both are also ok in cRPGs to PoE isn't getting "bad image" because of super bad plays.

Let's hope so. Regardless it should be very high on the Steam player count list when it releases due to the amount of backers.

Only if they manage to get the codes out to backers in time for release. If they get delayed a day or two, we could be stuck downloading the game while buyers who pre-loaded are going in.

Either way I'm super excited for this one. My dreams of an Intelligent Fighter being effective have finally been realized!

Expansion should have Barbarian, Monk and Rogue companions.

I would be very surprised if they didn't. I really hope they use the expansion to really blow out the main game in addition to the new content and quests. They've already talked about some new features like companion AI and stuff that they want to add in. I just love the idea of the main game being further updated and enriched and not simply being stuck and waiting for the next real evolution to occur in the sequel or only having those improvements segregated to the expansion.

Pillars of Eternity is currently the 4th best selling game on STEAM.
Best selling game on GOG.
Best selling game at GMG.

Very happy for Obsidian.
Very happy for us!

I've stayed away from almost all information aside from a few screens. The big event is almost here. The game fans wanted, but nobody would publish. Pretty neat moment.

I'm pretty pumped for the game, but I'm thinking of waiting a month or so for bug fixes. Wasteland 2 had multiple 1+gig patches early, fixing ludicrous amounts of stuff. Given the sheer scope of this game I imagine there's going to be considerably more.

I love the 'subtle' hints in this RPS article about that half-hour video they made:

“But John!” you cry, “I want to watch them to get an idea of whether I want to buy the game!” Ah, well, like I said, I’m not able to tell you at this point if THE GAME IS REALLY GOOD or not. So you’ll just have to continue not knowing if IT’S DEFINITELY WORTH GETTING for a couple more days.

of all the games i've Kickstarted this is the one i was most looking forward to, the one i wanted to see made the most. I've avoided the beta and previews so far to avoid spoilers, cant wait to get lost in this game

It's actually just 69 hours now.

... not like I'm counting or anything!

Lil OT Durante but I'm getting a new PC soon and it's my first time experimenting with downsampling. Couple pages back you said that the Nvidias solution can cause problems if the desktop is not in the same res as the game. Is there any reason to change the downsampled res of desktop back and forth or can I just leave it at that?

I'm trying to avoid too many spoilers but are rogues needed for like lockpicking and whatnot like they are in some games and are practically required or can that be covered by other classes / characters? Leaning toward monk but if I'd be missing out on unlocking a bunch of goodies I'd lean more toward rogue.
