Bloodborne Reviews Thread

Haha welcome friend! I hope you bought your flame shield because some people here are not happy your opinion differs from their own.

THAT, I've noticed. ;)

Shame they didn't read the WORDS that actually went with the review, or checked what they number means on our scale, eh? Ah well.

Did someone really compare the difference between this and souls games to the difference between halo and destiny? It's funny that some people are willing to die on the "bloodborne is not a souls game" hill. It's so similar that even 'spiritual successor' is grossly inaccurate.

Its a new IP and no amount of mental gymnastics will change that.

Sorry, what have I said that you consider a spoiler? The boss names? How you don't have to fight stuff in order? I don't consider any of that spoiler, but I can change threads if it is.

Everything I've said you can find in a review...

You won't find boss names in reviews, generally. People in OT for games don't drop boss names, or names of areas, or level names, etc, so why do in a review thread.

Reviews seem be to overwhelmingly positive to me, thus far. Glad to hear it. As I don't have a PS4, I hope someone like Kay or ENB starts putting up videos tomorrow.

Just picked up my copy of bloodborne. Impressions and some video's soon.

Edit: Am I allowed to post videos? or will sony ban my account? lol

I'm not getting hit very often. Most enemies are stunned by your normal attacks so you never get hit. The enemies that aren't stunned you use your gun to stun them and still don't take any damage.

When I do get hit, I have so many Blood Vails that the regain system doesn't matter. Also, most of the enemies die too fast to regain all of your health.

Which boss did you fight for the 3rd one? While there's an order you can go in, you don't have to follow that order. For instance, you can fight Father Gascoigne before the Cleric Beast if you want to. You can also fight Darkbeast Paarl very early if you're crazy enough to do it.

I found DS2 to be a little easier than DS. Not a big difference though. I did play DS2 a lot more though so my opinion might be skewed.

I guess you are using the cane? I'm using the axe; I get hit a lot but usually get all of my health back. You can keep hitting them after they've died but before they are cold on the ground, so to speak. I also found it essential for the
blood starved beast
fight, which is the one I kept dying to. I had a huge stockpile of blood vials going into the fight and ran through all of them and had to go farm them (which is really easy since lots of enemies have a high rate of dropping 2 at a time.)

I don't really think of Dark Souls as hard any more. Maybe you played it at launch and have a different impression due to patch changes but other than O&S, the Four Kings and Ceasless Discharge (for some reason I couldn't get the trick to work and had to fight him "legit") I didn't get stuck as hard as I just did on any boss in DS. I would have at Capra but I nope'ed out of there and came back much later.

i read it.

Out of curiosity, how did you decide the order in which reviews appear in the OP? Is it just random? Just curious as it's weird to see the Steviva one at the top. A site that was pretty much unknown to many/most prior to this thread.

in order as i found them in the thread. i also put the non-English ones and the Review in progress ones together. makes it easier for me when i'm editing. except for Stevivor's because that one stood out. ;)

Review scores don't matter, sales do.

Yes, sales are the most important thing for big companies.
But having a few killer apps on your system can help strengthen your brand.

Also, even if their numbers aren't bad, I'm pretty sure that if games like The Order, Killzone and Infamous had focused less on graphics and more on being good games and eded up with a 90+ metascore they would have sold a lot better.

I've been writing guides for about a decade so I'd say I'm better than the average gamer, but Dark Souls was difficult for me. This game is not difficult.

In Dark Souls I would have to be very careful if I saw more than one enemy. In this game I'll see four and not care. I would also die at least 3-5 times on most bosses in Dark Souls 2 (with no assistance from friends) and this game I can 1-shot most of them with no prior knowledge of the fight. In some cases you even get items to help you with boss battles.

This is seriously upsetting me lol.

I am appreciative of your feedback, but I do not like hearing that you didnt care when approaching enemies. Do you think the regain system is too generous? I felt like it could be given a smaller window. Does it feel like you can carelessly attack and since you get health back, you never worry about dying?

Can anyone else share opinions? Any fans who found this easier? Harder? I want a nice strong challenge, not to one off bosses, but I'm curious about the feedback you guys have

This is Dark Souls. It has a revamped combat system but everything else about the game is Dark Souls. They could've called this Dark Souls 3 and no one would've said a word.

People would have lost their shit if this was called dark souls 3. It's very similar but the ways it's different are dramatic.

This is clearly a King's Field / Shadow Tower situation. Most people are going to like both or neither, but you are going to have people who rabidly like one and not the other.

Did I read correctly in a review that players have to opt in to enable invasions? That's disappointing. It should be enabled by default - don't know how I feel about that. Invasions are a core part of the experience.

ISS has a good MC score of 80 dude.

I started with the Saw since I wanted to go with the average weapon. I hit enemies as they fall, but it's still not enough to get me back to full most of the time.

Not sure if talking about the boss battle is a spoiler so I'll use tags...

I would agree that the Blood-starved Beast was the hardest boss so far, but if you had a full stock of antidotes and killed it quickly it wasn't so bad. I only died once on that boss and it was while I was trying to take a screen shot of it (although I probably would've died anyway). The second time I used all of my antidotes (and the three behind the altar), but I won.

LiK
Not random at all.

It's more subtle than that; but it's mainly players who co-op will get invaded more often, if I understand it correctly.

Some people says " it's a shame, 9s/10 for a game with framedrops, 40 secs loading and a lot of aliasing ".

My thoughts : The game must be FUCKING GOOD to have a 93 Meta despite these aspects :)

Do the load times plague the digital version as well?

Would be interesting to see how a ssd would handle this load problem for both retail and digital.

Come on guys, I like to make joke here and there as much as the next person, but there's a time and a place, okay?

There are white people trying to have a serious discussion here.

Thanks for this. Nice little break from the tiresome disagreements taking place.

Digital and discs both fully install on the drive. It would be identical.

I'm sure SSD would help, but by how much?

Even with disc you're still playing off the hard drive. So yeah, load times will still be bad. A number of members are running SSD, so you should be hearing impressions soon.

Edit: Beaten

All ps4 games are fully installed.

Just to set some things straight...

- From a Dark Souls player, this game is pretty easy. Harder than the average game, but much easier than Dark Souls, especially Dark Souls 2.

- The load times suck, but a patch is coming to fix that.

- The Regain system isn't all that it was cracked up to be. Dark Souls players won't even notice it's there most of the time.

- Boss are super easy, especially compared to Dark Souls.

Any questions I'll be happy to answer.

I'm also working on a guide for anyone who needs help: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/bloodborne-tips-walkthrough-and-boss-battle-guide

That's a bit disappointing to hear. Would you say that the way dodging works now makes the game easier?

considering one of the biggest complaints is the load times, that patch is gonna be a godsend when it comes out.

These are pretty funny:

Thanks God this guy is not reviewing it else it would have been a 5/10 review for sure. I think games should be reviewed by at least three different people for these sites: 1. someone who loves the genre or series 2. someone who is neutral to it 3. someone who doesn't like the genre. A game should be a 10 if all love it. That's a masterpiece. It should score high if the genre loving person loves it and neutral person likes it or loves it. It should be scored average/bad if genre/series person thinks it average/bad and others are kinda meh to it.

But at least not allow a person who hates the genre or series to review such game. That's just being unfair to that game.

Anyways great to see good reviews. I will be getting it soon. I hope all this talk about game being easy is not true. Will wait for GAF souls impressions.

The biggest issue is that normal enemies are stunned by your regular attacks. I can attack before the enemies do and then they can't attack me at all unless I run out of stamina. Larger enemies can be harder, but the gun system takes care of that. I literally run right up to the larger enemies, lock-on and wait for them to attack. As soon as they do, I shoot them, then use a visceral attack which either kills them or drains 70% of their life.

These features make it so that I don't get hit very often. When I do get hit, which happens if I'm fighting a group of 7 or more enemies, or a big enemy with normal enemies surrounding it, I have plenty of Blood Vials to replenish my health.

Also, the dodge/roll is much faster and has more invincibility frames, so if I do get into trouble I can just dodge repeatedly to get away.

All that said, I have died. This is still harder than your average game. It's just not as difficult as Dark Souls 2.

Hey Stevivor, I'm on your PSN friend list.. watching my feed constantly saying "Stevivor Played Bloodborne" since last week has been all kinds of painful.

Now now the wait to play at midnight tonight (Aus time).

whoa, really, i thought DS2 was pretty easy. guess i'll see how well i do when my copy arrives tomorrow.

The second time I used all of my antidotes (and the three behind the altar), but I won.

The funny thing is that my very first try I got it down to 15% health. And there after I never got it past the last stubborn 20-30%. And then I got killed by its
multihit grab attack
repeatedly, and ran out of
antidotes after several fights. And out of Fire paper. And out of oil urns. And molotovs and even knives.

I eventually got pretty good at parrying it but even in my succesful run I nearly died a bunch of times.

Could be I'm just struggling to adapt to Bloodborne's play style, but I think average skill people are going to have a really hard time with parts of this game. In a good way of course.

Maybe I'll blaze through the rest. We'll see.
