Okay, take two at getting this game at a store this morning. 24/7 Walmart was closed last night for some reason so I'm just going to Target at 8AM when it opens.

Soon.

Wow, what a game. Just spent an hour playing this and that's more than enough to know that this is going to be amazing. Really surprised how creepy this game feels as the Souls games never had that uneasy feeling.

40+ pages since I went to bed. Keep up the good work, GAF. I'll probably pop in and out of the OT while I play, but I won't really dedicate much time until I (hopefully) get to NG+.

Finally got the bell with my friend. Do we have to be in the same area for him to come in my world?? It seems to take awhile for him to enter.

Where did you find the bell? Been looking for the small resonant one. If you both have the same password set it should join you together.

wait a sec.... where is this
child!?!
i totally missed it.

There is a gate-shortcut near the giant enemy who is knocking at the
Big gate near the beginning.

at the left where you can go up the stairs to the 2 wolf. Behind that gate, there is the house with the child

Ugh, I keep trying to save some souls for a Kirkhammer and then exploring and losing them. I'll probably just grab one after I
beat Father Grigori.

thanks! i will try to find it!
his father
already died though lol

I've killed two bosses and I'm a little unsure where to go.

I have the cathedral bonfire beyond the 2nd boss, but every direction utlimately leads to a dead end -- or seems to.

I am sadly getting more frustrated with this game than I have with any of the previous souls games... I don't know why exactly, but I'm not sure the more action oriented nature they were going for fits this style of game. It made more sense to be defensive in the Souls games, and the mechanics are basically the same, except they want you to be more aggressive, but the enemies are still just as aggressive, so one fuck up, and it's death.

It's frustrating when I've gone through this opening area a dozen times, and I still have no idea where the next lamp is.

Time to upgrade yo skillz

A few questions guys... hope ya don't mind haha, I'll be asking many of these over the next few weeks. Newbie here!

- If I die I lose all my blood echoes, right? So then I only have one chance to get them back from either the beast who killed me (with the blue eyes) or if they are laying on the ground to pick them up again. I only have one chance? Meaning if I die a second time they are gone forever? :*(

- Also, can anyone tell me how many blood echoes madmans knowledge costs from the bath messengers? I just need 2 more!

- What is offline mode exactly? I won't be able to get invaded or summon coop help? But still can summon NPC help?

For the first, yes. I've had my echoes stolen twice, I don't think bosses can steal them which is good. You have one chance to get them back, fail and you never get em back.

also noomi I hope you brought along your hawkmoon

And offline mode does prevent you from being invaded/seeing messages/summoning help, and there is no summmoning NPC help me thinks

You realize there are defensive options—two types of dodges and a parry—that you can use? Being action oriented doesn't mean you have to just mash buttons and hope you survive. I mean I didn't die once until I got to the second boss, just dodging enemy attacks or patrying them. Hell I beat the whole starting area up to the dream with my fists just by dodging and backstabbing...

He is probably missing the shield, and i am in the same boat. I know hiding behind the shield is frowned upon in DS community, but i really liked this kind of combat.
I dont really understand why FROM decided to limit gameplay to more agressive style. It was kind of nice to have a lot of options how to fight in DS.

Anyone else getting framerate/sound issues in Old Yharnam? A couple of times the FPS dropped really low for a second and the sound effect of a burning fire in the background sounded stretched out.

Okay, calm down GAF.

Yup game gets really framey and glitchy for both me and a friend around there. Guess it's all the smoke and debris crushing the ps4 lol

Wow

Just counted six threads with Bloodborne in the title on the front page of the gaming side

I know nothing about this game, but it's apparently massive |:

Yep, die twice in a row and you're fucked. Don't sweat it too much though, it happens to everyone. A lot.

I disagree. With shields, combat was predictable-Raise shield up, block, then counter. Against players, using a shield isn't the best idea and it becomes a 'who can backstab first' situation.

By removing shields, suddenly you have to compensate-They did this by adding offensive options. Suddenly they're side stepping and backstepping, the gun if time will stagger the enemy for a visceral hit, and they encourage offense by having the ReGain mechanic. Combat then takes on a more fluid dynamic approach.

Need help, Spoilers for before the first boss

I took the sewer underneath and back up a long ladder to unlock the shortcut. How do I fight the first boss from here? Do you have to fight the werewolves on the bridge?
You can fight the werewolves (though they're a bit of a pain to fight at once), or you can go left from the house with the laughing woman; there's a secret route there hidden by some debris that goes through a longer route but ends up past the werewolves. Also, from what I can tell, there are two "first bosses"; one past the sewer and another past the bridge.

Yup. I'm using headphones and there's a couple places there where the audio will latch for a split second on a tight buffer of sound, making an Aphex-y beat glitch effect. Startles me everytime even though I'm expecting it (it's not super loud or anything just jarring.)

Hasn't happened elsewhere yet. I bet it eventually gets patched.

You have to get 10 Insight and then in the dream world you go into the house and to your first left there's a balcony with a fountain to activate the purchaser. It will cost only the person in whos world you want to go into 1 Insight to activate his or her bell. You will ring the co op bell and you will find his world. I used the password but tool like 2 minutes to connect.

so you can use the password only with the small bell? I couldn't with the other one.

NPC Summoning should work, or atleast it did in the Souls games.

But what is the soul level limit? Must you be within 10 levels of each other?

So I got a question to people who played the game , is it harder than Souls series ?
Because from reading some of the review it sound like it is harder .

Guess Il find out tonight

just beat the third boss, taking my first break since I fired 'er up at midnight EST.

I've taken every boss solo and it's just been incredible. especially the most recent boss. my heart is still pounding from ten minutes ago.

This is just... its so great. the technical flaws aside, it just doesn't deter me from enjoying the hell out of this game (and tech flaws honestly never will get in my way). I'll never get tired of Miyazaki and his team's efforts with these style RPGs.

I'll be back on tonight, if you get bored and want to watch a stream it's twitch.tv/primeau31

If it's like previous "Souls" titles, English VO is the only option, with subtitles being in the different languages. Even in Japan, Demon's Souls/Dark Souls/Dark Souls II only had English VO.

I've had Dusk blurt out a line or two in Japanese, I swear.

Ragequittingly done for today after failing to recover my huge pile of echo... asdfblargh

Getting flamed by mid-or-feeds in LoL might be less aggravating.

Thanks for the replies guys! I better be super careful then! Note to self do not play this when you are tired haha!

Breezy, if I could bring the Hawkmoon, all bosses would be one shotted lol! :p

Also...
someone said in offline mode you are able to summon an NPC to help you fight Father Gascoinge.... not sure how though or where that place is to do so.

So guys,
If I want to summon someone to help me or join there game, I need
insight points
right? Where can I get some I need help with the first boss :(

It's much faster paced. I personally find the increased mobility gives me a greater edge, but I've only played about three hours ans beaten the first two bosses, so I don't really feel comfortable commenting on the difficulty yet.

without spoiling too much, where do I go? I beat two bosses.
I have the cathedral and old yarnham bonfires, but ultimately they all lead to death end paths. the only lead I have is that 10,000 soul emblem thing that I think might be to that gate, but I'm not sure if that's where I'm "supposed" to go right now or not.

Ahhhh ok thanks. I'd noticed that fountain but every time I went there it said the messenger wasn't available to something. Thanks!
