Does anyone know if you can dual wield shields
yes I know its stupid

Just tried and, no. :(

Wait are these macros you can create for buffs and stuff? That is amazing.

You create chants before going in to battle, up to four, and the chanter automatically channels them as they fight. Once they hit a trigger (three at the moment) you can perform a spell. So basically you get reasonably decent AoE buffs like a Bard then a spell (everything from damage reduction, nukes and roots) after about 5 seconds. But in that time they can keep swinging for the houses with a weapon too.

My Chanter, Sir Mixalot will be hitting them with Baby Got Back, Sleepin' Wit My Fonk, Brown Shuga, and Chief Boot Knocka.

Really? Then I'll be able to start playing this gem today if I'm a backer? :3

Let's see when I'm able to retrieve my copy... I guess they will unlock the game for all backers at the same time regardless of regions?
Unfortunately no - you'll only get the key, so you can probably preload your game on steam, but it will unlock on thursday with everyone else' copies

So close! This hurts my feels :'(

Wow, that chanter preparation looks cool. I think I'm going to change my main character's class just for the personalization it provides... and the funny names you can give to songs XD

For those who've played the beta or press copy, how stable has the experience been?

I'm on the fence about getting this now or wait a few months for patches. Playing NWN2 at release burned me and I've been hesitant of buying Obsidian games at release ever since.

the earlier Backer Beta versions were (predictably) unstable, buggy and unoptimized. The first BB pretty much maxed my computer (and it wasn't and isn't a very demanding software, to be honest) to the point I couldn't play it for long periods. Plus, it crashed with a high frequency. Entered this building? CRASH. Exited the ruins? CRASH. Loaded an area? CRASH.

The Backer Beta now is far, far better. Not only in terms of overall stability, but in presentation (finished icons for items and abilities, loading screen art, etc.) and also mechanically. There's also few bugs -at least compared to its earlier version- and even fewer game-breaking ones (though I got one haha!). It's quite polished.

Plus, the final version is going to get a good ol' patch right from the bat.

I've been watching some videos and hell, I think I could actually enjoy the RTwP battle system this time around. HUD looks great and gameplay streamlined enough to make giving orders and keeping tabs on everyone not a pain in the ass. Now I just gotta decide what class to choose. I usually roll ranger cause I like staying out of trouble, but a monk beating everything to death with his/her bare fists sounds great too.

How modding-friendly is the game supposed to be? There are still some aspects I'm not sure if I'm a fan of.

Haha, the editable Chanter songs totally sealed the deal on what my PC class will be. I was up in the air between chanter, monk, and cipher, but now that I can be an androgynous weirdo named Ziggy singing about rock and roll aliens, there is clearly only the one choice.

edit:

Ooooooh!

I might sport a Bowie inspired chanter now

GET OUT OF MY BRAIN

Anyone know if they are going to sell the Champion Edition upgrade after the game is released or if its pre order only on Steam? I really want that Making of Documentary but I dont get paid till Thursday/Friday.

Hmm looking at the Fighters abilities it seems like they are mainly defensive focused with very little offense except for the weapon specializations. Maybe I should go Rogue or Barbarian instead :d.

Thing is I've rolled Rogue in almost every RPG that I've played.

A solid fighter makes the skeleton of any party, I'm in the middle of a dungeon on the backers beta and he's no slouch. He was also last man standing vs a party of shades.

My chanter DMX got tupac'ed. :'(

Wow, the official forums are going apeshit with whining over keys and whatnot...

Same thing happens with every game release. Christ the game isn't out for another two days for crying out loud.

they seem to work best with range weapons anyway

Aye, almost all of the spells are ranged so you can fire them from some distance. So you can use a arbalest, hit like a tank then cast spells.

Someone sell me on the Cipher class. I have been theory crafting builds all day and can't decide what I want to roll for my first playthrough.

You cast a spell on an ally which reflects 25% of incoming damage to the source, you can re apply this every 10 seconds. What else do you need to know? :D
They are an affliction class, most of them are single target but the AoE afflictions are mean. There skills are tied to the amount of times they hit a target so they are one of the most sustained DPS classes about.

The videos I saw were just melee builds which seemed weird to me with these skills.

I guess it's viable, dual wielding you can generate more focus, but it means possibly getting interrupted constantly. I'm playing mine ranged at the moment and he's done twice as much damage as anyone else in the party.

I finally got my key for the PC on my university. PoE pre-load here I come......once I get my PoE key....and the pre-load is available.

yet the most popular in every damn RPG

Yup, even in games like Mass Effect Soldier was the most picked class.

I can't wait until Thursday. I completely forgot about this game until a week ago so it was a pleasant surprise to hear it was coming out so soon. Gonna be hard to choose a class, but I'm thinking Cipher since they can make songs. That's bad ass.

There is a companion who is a chanter, I'd say take them instead. :D

Yeah, my problem is that I wanted for my MC to be a cipher and there is also a companion for that, more so, a companion written by Avellone. So if I have to choose, I prefer to ditch the chanter.

Also I'm not interested on Barbarians, Monks or Rogues on my first run.

Which main character do you recommend? Truth to be told, I have exposed myself to very little from this game to avoid spoilers but maybe I should have informed myself a bit more :p

What type of character are you interested in playing for your main character?

Personally I'm going for a Cipher since it's the only class that is completely new and unique to PoE(Chanter looks like a version of the bard from IE games).

After reading a bit the Cipher sounds cool. I'm not 100% clear on how the stats work in this game so what does a Cipher using HtH weapons need to focus on? I'm guessing might and constitution but what stats effect his spells?

Take whatever class you want and sounds the most interesting to you. The mechanics allow for some pretty divergent builds within a class so you can have two of the same class in your party and have them operate in rather distinct ways that don't overlap or make one feel redundant.

I'm going Wizard, purely to maximise the amount of companions I want in my party.

I'm gonna go with a rogue. I like rogues, and the fact that there's no rogue companion pretty much seals the deal.
I think I'll make her an opportunist adventurer-wannabe. An aspiring explorer of sorts.
