Dashing was very effective, so I stuck to that and reset the situation if the left side is blocked. My cleaver was +2 by the time I fought the cleric, though the cane may just be that much weaker I suppose.

You can always try burning him. That's probably his weakness if the messages I saw before the fight are correct.

Almost constant.

Yeah, Cleric is very weak to
fire, in fact if you hit him with an oil urn first and then throw a molotov, you do tons more damage.

I forgot how much I missed the cycle of studying/researching while at work and preparing for the night's session. No other games provide me this thrill.

LOL, I spent so long looking for a blacksmith and then I noticed the workbench was right there the whole time.

Also,
Father
was much harder for me because he is so much more aggressive and is fought in a more cramped area.

A few things....

1) Is clothing as big a deal in this game as it appears to be? I remember reading about being able to adjust your outfits.

2) Anybody get the strategy guide?

played for about less than 2 hours, haven't been able to get pass the werewolves at the bridge yet :<
i don't think they can be gun parried?

Just be patient and keep knocking your head against it, getting help from Youtube videos and here or whatever. Trust me, the reward of finally breaking through in these games is amazing.

I remember shit like facing the first blue knight in Demon's Souls being a struggle or the Capra Demon in Dark Souls making me feel like it was just impossible. But then something magical happened. I leveled up, learned the enemies and environments... and got better. It's no different here, you just have to be patient and play.

I plan on giving this game a fair shot. Just need to keep at it.

I just preordered the game (EU) and started the preload. Otherwise everything is just dandy, but the game download itself under the download status menu is sized at just a little over 5 gigs? There's the patch in addition at 2.X gigs, but that's like a third of the game at best if the entire download is 2X gigs or something as I've read?

Is the preload really so small or is there something fishy going on here?

Countering with the gun and stabbing someone through the chest. Just MMMMMMMMMMMMM. I actually just moaned out loud it feels so good.

Does anyone have the full ost yet?
I reaaaaaally want it! :(

My CE came with it and I finished downloading it. Obviously not gonna listen to it until I finish the game.

Game install incomplete.
Cannot load save data.

Playing through disc. It seems it's long done spinning. I've lost 15 minutes of my hour and a half I've had to play trying to fix this. I would have had better fate just starting over. Now I only have 30 minutes left. Should I just delete it and re-install and start over. Losing another 15 minutes? =(

Nevermind. It fixed itself. I just had to keep doing the same thin over and over again. Lost 25 minutes of play =\

Cleric Beast tip I just noticed that's probably been posted:
You can lock on at his head separately, do'h, this makes it much easier to stun him with a pistol shot and then smash his face. I didn't realize there were two lockon points - just flick the analog stick

I get the game in an hour or so, but I will be choosing the Professional origin and the Threaded Cane. Going for a Skill build.

That's my build. Great for mobs and smaller enemies. So far it seems tougher on larger enemies because of the limited damage output. Also, the cane itself is basically a Rapier which I never liked because it's very tough to use if you're not "locked" on an enemy. Gonna stick with it for now...

Powered through pretty good last night on initial play. The wife decided to watch and was asking me questions and making me miss things and not give the game the proper attention it deserved!

I notice an area behind some breakable boxes and the wife does too. My better judgement tells me to push on but my wife thinking she spotted it and I hadn't urges me to "check it out".

I break the boxes and notice a bunch of corridors below with several small drops kinda looks like a sewer area. A note on the ground says secrets ahead... The wife urges me to continue... I in that moment didn't think that's it's been awhile since I found a 2nd lamppost which the game uses as checkpoints. I didn't think of it because the first one was found quite a ways back....

I foolishly jump down several levels and am met by a very tall and slender lycan type humanoid. He's fast... I dodge and attack twice... He doesn't die or get very close to death like the madmen walking the surface streets.... I silently begin to regret taking those multiple level drops... Another corner turned and another attacks. He hits me and I notice the health bar drops almost half. I dispatch of him and heal... But that moment of comfort left me as another howls behind me and slashes me twice and kills me...

A good 35-45 minutes lost, and 6000+ blood echoes in a place that nightmare are birthed... I begin the trek back and am over taken stupidly by 3 madmen... "Thats enough Bloodbourne for tonight" as I slowly turn my head towards my wife... She asks what about your souls.... "I said that enough Bloodbourne for tonight"...

Please do. Like AkuMifune said above, you just have to learn, prep and even study the game. When you finally achieve victory, you will feel like this:

And then you will be hooked... guaranteed. Trust me, I am struggling as well and I have beaten all three of the others. Can't wait to have that feeling all over again, myself.

I know nothing about any of the Souls games. Never played then, maybe seen 10-15 mins of someone playing. Should I even bother with Bloodborne? All I know is it's hard and doesn't explain much.

I played a tiny bit of Demon Souls but this is the first time I've really put the effort it.

Just beat the first boss and my hands were literally shaking from adrenaline, I didn't realise games could feel so tense. Just tried to do what you do in fighting games and stay calm, think clearly and don't panic/get cocky. Jesus, such a rush and such a sense of achievement.

You can aggro just one and get him to chase you (just make sure the other isn't there). It helps to fight them separately. Once down you can circle around to unlock the other gate and skip them on subsequent trips to the bridge.

Maybe there's another way around though, that first area is still a maze to me. It's the best.

Reposting for new page:

In the second link, the guide recommends choosing the Threaded Cane for your starter weapon. I disagree with this. If you are a beginner to FROM games, the Saw Cleaver is a much better choice. Still attacks fast (but not as fast as the cane), but better damage, especially against the first boss. Everyone who chose the cane has been complaining that they can't do much damage against the boss. However; if you can pull off parries with your gun, then the follow up attack with the cane will do decent damage.

I know I've been kind of down on the game but I do appreciate all the tips. Will keep you guys updated.

In the meantime here's my hunter, Warren Mallory.

Heh, I noticed you watching my stream for a few minutes last night asking about my origin. That's what I'm going too. I like it so far. I will say the damage is lackluster so far. I don't have much basis for comparison, but I hit like complete shit on the first boss. but I like the mobility and the range of the cane.

My first Souls game!

Played for ~45mins enough to collect enough souls to buy first armor set from Dream vendor. I still need to invest few hours into the game just to become comfortable with the combat and traversal. I found out hard way that this game does not have animation canceling. :D When you start doing some combat move, that move has to be finished. Also took me a while to find out where can I equip/unequip armor pieces.

I have few questions:
- I just started, where can I upgrade my stats? Is that considered here as "level up"?

- Can I store my XP somewhere before going into Yarnam? I have accumulated some XP and I don't want to endanger it because I want to see can I fight that axe wielding giant. There is nothing that I want to purchase from vendor [and consumables are not cheap anyway]...

- When does the game saves its state? When I just come close to lamp in Yarnam, or when I travel to Hunters Dream? Will everything I do in Dream be saved or I need to travel back to Yarnam for my purchases/changes be saved? I never noticed any savegame logo while playing, and game did not give me tutorial prompt about that.

first thing i do with every big boss in souls games. Check to see where i can lock on :D

Yo I'm at the first level and keep dying once I get to the two
wolves
. Am I missing something obvious here or are there any shortcuts? Cuz fighting the mob every time is getting annoying.

Helping people with Father C for a while!
Looks like you get a couple thousand souls and 1 insight for helping someone beat a boss. Your health is maxed at ~75% like Demon's Souls soul form with cling ring

Yeah, I took a peek, but quickly shut it off because I didn't want to be spoiled.

And I did see you chose the cane!
