I'm super worried about this game.

Reading stuff like

- There is really no magic to speak of in Bloodborne

- There's no more equip weight, so you don't have the option to play as either a heavily armored tank or a nimble ninja. Don't expect to drape yourself in Havel's armor or anything. Bloodborne doesn't have that.

-You can't upgrade your armor with materials in Bloodborne.

-The upgrade path for weapons is incredibly straightforward and only requires one type of
material.

-There is no "Boss Soul" equivalent in Bloodborne, and there are far fewer weapons and items available to the player.
from Michael McWhertor

and watching Patrick Klepek play last night I think it looks fine, but it strips out so much of what I found really interesting about the Souls games.

I liked the jigsaw puzzle of piecing together rings and armour to keep me under 25% equipment burden so I could ninja roll while still bashing the fuck out of dudes with a Divine Claymore after softening them up with lightning miracles. My worry is this game basically makes you play one of a couple ways and you better like it or not.

You can aggro just one and get him to chase you (just make sure the other isn't there). Once down you can circle around to unlock the other gate and skip them on subsequent trips to the bridge.

Maybe there's another way around though, that first area is still a maze to me. It's the best.

oh i know i can beat them, i just panicked and got greedy that's all
i've been playing very carefully, i usually use my gun to bait since i have very little pebbles, works quite well

6h 30 minutes guys... oh my god

I need to go to work.... NOOOOOO!

But after that, Wed-Fri off for a Bloodborne marathon. Leaving the game just prior to the first boss. Have levelled up to 16. Started as Violent past. Points so far

Vit up to 15
End up to 13
Skill up to 10 (10 is needed for the sword/hammer weapon).

4 or 5 deaths so far. The hunters axe wrecks, so deaths have been me making mistakes. No issue doing damage.

I didn't think about using pebbles to bait enemies. Probably better to save the ammo. Already have a couple dozen pebbles.

That's my build. Great for mobs and smaller enemies. So far it seems tougher on larger enemies because of the limited damage output. Also, the cane itself is basically a Rapier which I never liked because it's very tough to use if you're not "locked" on an enemy. Gonna stick with it for now...

I picked the cane... I was a fucking retard for the first 10 minutes... I was so psyched to be playing Bloodborne I did not read any of the tips and only used the heavy regular cane attack till the wolves.

Yes NeoGAF. Flying Toaster is stupid as hell and only used R2 non whip cane attacks till the wolves.

MOCK ME!

This patch is really killing me lol I had two hours before class to play and I'll have to leave before its finished downloading. Damn you slow internet!

My first Souls game!

Played for ~45mins enough to collect enough souls to buy first armor set from Dream vendor. I still need to invest few hours into the game just to become comfortable with the combat and traversal. I found out hard way that this game does not have animation canceling. :D When you start doing some combat move, that move has to be finished. Also took me a while to find out where can I equip/unequip armor pieces.

I have few questions:
- I just started, where can I upgrade my stats? Is that considered here as "level up"?

- Can I store my XP somewhere before going into Yarnam? I have accumulated some XP and I don't want to endanger it because I want to see can I fight that axe wielding giant. There is nothing that I want to purchase from vendor [and consumables are not cheap anyway]...

- When does the game saves its state? When I just come close to lamp in Yarnam, or when I travel to Hunters Dream? Will everything I do in Dream be saved or I need to travel back to Yarnam for my purchases/changes be saved? I never noticed any savegame logo while playing, and game did not give me tutorial prompt about that.
Upgrade stats at Hunter's Dream after you meet the first boss

No XP storing, but friendly tip: don't use the echo-giving blood items unless you're immediatly going to spend your XP

The game autosaves at every single thing you do. Used an item, killed an enemy, died, etc

you can level up at the hunter's dream, talk to the doll.

you can't store XP.

the game auto save all the time .

1. Go to the Doll in Hunter's Dream to level up. You need at least 1 level of Insight to do this.
2. Nope, no way to store Blood Echoes. Spend them when you have them, or risk venturing into unknown territory while carrying them with a chance to lose them.
3. The game autosaves ALL THE TIME. Fired your gun? Autosaved. Took one step forward? Autosaved. Bought some bullets from a merchant? Autosaved.

And see the guides I posted a few posts up, especially Vaati's video. It will be super super helpful for newcomers.

edit-
That guide says new comers should use the cane ... yet here people say the cane is tough to use (not bad) so I do not know if I trust that guide on Beginner stuff!

Yeah, that's the only thing I disagree with. The Saw Cleaver is a much better choice. But everything else in the guide (stat explanations) are good.

Frame pacing is really bad. Constant stuttering :(
Patch cant get here quick enough.

Feels like the game is constantly sub 30fps.
Even though it isn't.

I wouldn't say constant, it definitely feels smoother than last games.
I say in some areas *specific areas* it goes below 30 but not much and it's only for a second

Yo I'm at the first level and keep dying once I get to the two
wolves
. Am I missing something obvious here or are there any shortcuts? Cuz fighting the mob every time is getting annoying.

After the big bonfire with all the enemies you can go left through the arch and then to where the party is taking place behind a door. Break some boxes and fall down to another section which winds around back to the lamp and also a house which let's you skip wolves (and entire level). Also, you can just run by wolves and go to door on the left just past them. Follow through house back to lamp for shortcut.

The patch download is fucking crawling... I can download shit through other platforms at 10x the speed I can through PSN.

Thanks bro.

This game is a thing of beauty. It's stunning. I have something like 20+ combined playthroughs of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne is exceeding my expectations only 2 bosses in.

After Gascoigne I took the
brooch back to the little girl
and gave it her, and then went back to the
one lady look for safe haven and told her where to go
. Gotta go get the
Flamesprayer
from Gilbert and I think I'll be done with Central Yharnam for the time being.

Bare in mind I haven't played the game yet. But what was that power like attack you did towards the end that wiped out the largest chunk of his health?

I managed to land a charged R2 from behind him (the move with the white flash graphic). When you do this, it crumples the enemy, and you can walk up and hit R1 for a "visceral attack".

cant watch, did you get something special for it?

Nope. Just 3 blood vials from the wolf.

The diversity of the trick weapons and nature of the dodge and parry system make it a different and IMO better beast.

That's this game's version of a backstab/riposte. You use it by stunning the enemy with either gun shots from the front or charge attacks from the back

It does differentiate itself from Souls games in these respects. I am concerned that there isn't a huge weapon/armor variety, but there are definitely a lot of ways to mix up your fighting style within the options available. I do feel more bound to an archetype than I did in a Souls game; I don't move any faster if I'm naked. I look pretty much the same as the other hunters who summon me. But I'm immensely enjoying every second I play so I can't complain much.

6h 30 minutes guys... oh my god

Yoshi can you still feel your thumbs?

ARE YOU OKAY?

I'm not okay, I'm amazing. This game is too good. T___T

i'm using pistol, i've seen some streams and i think it shoots faster, but it doesn't have the spread like blunderbuss

Faster, Longer range, and I think more damage depending on your class/origin. Way better than the Blunderbuss for parrying IMO.

So how good is Ludwigs rifle for parrying? My basic pistol is doing the job flawlessly. If anyone is using it pls let me know , thanks.

Which stats do you guys recommend leveling first? I'm thinking Endurance mainly, but I don't know which weapon stat I should increase first :s

I bought a PS4 for bloodborne (coming from xbox), bought the game digital and downloaded 5.7gb in 4h WTF Sony, and it's not only BB, everything i download takes fucking forever like i bought a ouya or some cheap shit where they limit bandwith to save some money or wtf. I'm so pissed.

Found time to get a couple hours in this morning. This is my first experience with the series.

Pretty impressed so far. Chose the cane as my starting weapon, really like it so far though the beginning area is filled with a lot of narrow spaces and it's hard to gauge accurately when you're going to wall-clank. Sometimes it seems like you can swing in extended mode in a very tight space without doing it, and other times you'll be in a wider space and still wall-clank.

Also having a bit of a hard time with the firearm stun timing. The one enemy with the huge axe seemed like a good target for it but the timing seemed very strict both in getting the stun and being able to get near enough to actually act on it before he recovered. Wasn't as bad on some of the other targets, though.

Played up through the Cleric Beast, who took me three tries. Getting firearm stuns on him seemed incredibly hard with his attacks having so much wind-up, so I just stopped bothering altogether after the second attempt in favor of keeping better positioning. Camera was kind of wack in that encounter, but the cane made short work of him when it wasn't showing me the other side of the bridge wall. Was glad to have that weapon versus him.

I downloaded my hats for messengers but can't find where to put them on. I want my messengers to be pimps like me with my cane. Where do you put them on?
