Lasted word from Obsidian on Keys for those who care:

I'm itching to get my hands on the digital goodies from my Royal Edition. I believe those will be available through the pre-load.

Let's ramble!

Metacritic reviews for PoE...i think 75-85 is logical to me.

Of course, as Wasteland 2 and New Vegas taught me...that's doesn't mean the game is going to be crap, far from it, it can be the best rpg in years even with those reviews.

1) Since when does a score of 75-85 mean a bad game ?
2) Reviews mean nothing with a niche game like PoE.

Too true, but you would be surprised at how many people won't even try a game if the meta critic score is under a certain threshold. Is it silly? Very much so.

While I agree that you can miss great games this way, I don't blame anyone who does this. We're all limited in our game time by some time and/or money constraints, and I'm sure for many people, they legitimately feel like their limited game time is best spent only on the best games, and that there's enough of those to never need to play lesser ones. MC isn't a great measure of that, but if you spend all your time playing 80+ games, you're going to have a pretty great time, even if it means missing out on some "lesser" titles.

Yeah, I can understand that for the folks suffering from time or budgetary restraints. Hopefully the trend of having streamers show off the game days or weeks in advance will help combat the 'MC' effect some people have towards games.

Tbh, these games are like craft beers, exotic coffees, artisan teas, etc.

You have to come half-way to get the most out of the game. You have to appreciate what it's trying to accomplish. Many games these days just feed you everything that you are meant to value. That doesn't mean they are bad games, but Bloodborne for example. People KNOW why that game is loved. When people who know nothing about crpgs takes a look at PoE, they won't see half of what it can offer. They certainly might not feel like trying to extract even once told.

Yeah, though there are better resources than MC for that purpose.

the earlier Backer Beta versions were (predictably) unstable, buggy and unoptimized. The first BB pretty much maxed my computer (and it wasn't and isn't a very demanding software, to be honest) to the point I couldn't play it for long periods. Plus, it crashed with a high frequency. Entered this building? CRASH. Exited the ruins? CRASH. Loaded an area? CRASH.

The Backer Beta now is far, far better. Not only in terms of overall stability, but in presentation (finished icons for items and abilities, loading screen art, etc.) and also mechanically. There's also few bugs -at least compared to its earlier version- and even fewer game-breaking ones (though I got one haha!). It's quite polished.

Plus, the final version is going to get a good ol' patch right from the bat.

That's good to hear.

Jason Schreier from the Kotaku article hasn't encountered many bugs, either. And he's in Act 2:
And finally, 4) This is an Obsidian game — is it going to be super buggy?
[...]
4) Surprisingly not buggy! I've seen some typos, and once in a while the game will screw up a script trigger and I'll have to reload an auto-save, but everything's mostly stable, which is lovely.

Bodes well! I may buckle and buy the game - hype is too strong.

They want the game. Badly. Once it releases the frothing will subside and they will look back on themselves with embarrassment. Gorion would not be proud of their actions.

I doubt any of these troglodytes have enough maturity for such self reflection.

This is a great point.

This is also one of the reasons which make me believe that Divinity:OS' late review copy availability actually helped the game's review scores. Reviewers were playing the game at the same time as fans did, and could see the enthusiasm about the title. I really think the reviews could have gone quite differently had they be done in isolation from the player base.

This is easily an 50 hour RPG so I will be very suspicious of any review on day one.

They should try to hide that stuff better. Like a hidden room/ Easter egg kind of thing.

i dont think i will be bothered by it but i agree that maybe making a hidden area like the New World Computing office dungeon in Might and Magic 6 and putting the out of lore backer stuff there would be best.

Anyone else think giving press copies to popular streamers that have no idea how to play and play badly and don't understand the mechanics at all so just trash talk the game the whole time the day before bloodborne came out the biggest release in months so then all the streamers you hoped would promote your game and who did a poor job at it now totally ignore it and 100k people are watching bloodborne and because everyone is playing that barely over 300 people is watching poe was a bad idea and is in no way going to replicate the success of cities skylines?

From how PoE has done in DD top seller lists so far i would guess the streamer strategy has worked.

I'm unsure which streamers got a copy. Have they been handed out willy nilly to anyone with a notable audience, or have Paradox given them to select individuals, such as those who attended PDXCON (and, as such, all sat in on a long Sawyer/Avellone/Etc-led presentation about the game)?

I must agree.

#1 in GOG
#3 in Steam

Those ranking are nothing to sneeze at and very likely to gain more momentum in Steam and aim for #1 spot as release draws closer.

It's #3 on steam? Did it go up for pre-load or something?

Also, how are backers redeeming their copy?

It is on Steam for purchase; I think you can preload it already, but I'm not sure. Backers redeem their copy for the vendor of their choice (Steam/GOG/DRM-free?) through the portal on the Obsidian site.

No pre-load yet. Backers will get to choose between Steam Key and GOG sometime today on the eternity.obsidian.net website backer portal.

It will be pretty cool if it can ride a popularity wave like Divinity did and just sit in the top sellers list for a crazy length of time - that was beautiful to watch. Hopefully the backer keys will go out soon, once the game's in my library this will all start to feel real.

i figured since i have the day off and we are so close to release i would redeem my backer beta key. i like how there is more thought in the description for a serving of meatloaf than most games put into their main plots.

Sorry if this has been asked already but I'm a little confused. I want to buy this game but I don't really want to buy any sort of collectors edition with any added extras but every version I've seen is some sort of Hero Edition or Traveller Edition or something. Is there just a standard normal edition with the game and nothing else?

The Obsidian forums are getting hammered. I am guessing the backer portal will implode when everyone tries to redeem their keys.

If you're going digital, the Hero edition is just the game. The Champion and Royal Editions include various digital bonuses.

Hero Edition is most basic one you are going to find, e.g. on GoG it's 42€.

Even with Bloodborne to entertain me, this game is still in the back of my mind. Waiting.

That kotaku article is great for making you hyped without spoiling much.

417 right now, 700+ on general discussions

I'm F5ing the Products page like every 10 seconds. I just want my damn rewards now, Key only matters as long as I can get it before I go to bed tomorrow so I can preload and come home from work and start playing. Does me no good right now.

Repeat request: Is there anybody who is willing to share their Guide Book PDF once they receive it, in exchange for my proof of purchase of the physical copy through PM please?

I'd be interested too. I received my physical book from Amazon, and can verify that I do own it. Just ask me anything (e.g., 5th word on so and so page), or I can send a photo with your neogaf name stickied on the cover.
