Thanks, but I always fight bosses solo on my first encounter :/

No worries, just looking for excuses to keep playing. Good luck!

You can dodge all of her attacks by staying close and diving into and slightly around her body. Attack her from the rear, retreat, repeat.

The healing gave me problems at first, and as far as I know you just got to dps her through it.

Have you tried spamming pause/resume? Some people find that works to get a better DL speed

Or try putting your PS4 in rest mode
I'm in the PS4 OS-menu where the Bloodborne icon is. There's no pause/resume button here...

So tempted to pick this up but I hated Dark Souls.

The extremely vague storytelling and the "Here's the world. Figure shit out, motherfucker." style didn't click with me.

Noob here, are there particular stats/ build i should invest in order to enhance survivability? Can GAF throw in some tips in regards to character build? Like what is more important vitality or endurance investment?

Also, is it possible to respec?
Vitality and Endurance are equally important. Put some points in them while focusing on either Strength or Skill

Okay, I restarted my computer and it worked... that got my worried. Now for the most important part:
I was at 12GB at unlock last night and I did character creation and some of the beginning areas without issue before going to bed. You should be ok for a bit of playing.
"beginning areas" as in how much? Like, up until boss 2 or something?

Slightly spoilerish after 2nd boss:

I was in area just past
Cathedral ward
and found an item
various clothing. After touching it a weird spell filled screen and my character raised up into the sky, before falling down (didn't kill him). Said I was in a frenzy.

Lol.

Yeah I have no idea wtf this was about, and have yet to explain it. If you look close when it happens its actually
a giant fucking translucent ghost arm that picks you up and crushes you like a tin can.
Freaky. You can go back to that spot and it'll happen again.

Storytelling has some extra tools - more cutscenes, some texts you can find - but you'll probably not like it if you hated Dark Souls

Now it's been stuck at 15.66GB.

What a torment. I am filled up with so much anger right now, I could literally feel it coming out of my asshole.

PS Network isn't working, the "What's New"-function isn't working, nothing is working but I can still see my friends online..

Oh my god.

put the ps4 in rest mode it downloads faster

While mechanics are slightly different, this is a souls game, just without souls in the title.

I know there's enough little difference and this is more melee heavy, but bonfires/lanterns, blood, health vials, I mean, I was surprised it wasn't more different.

So chances are you probably won't like it unless you can co-op with someone like I'm hoping too.

This fucking boss I fucking can't.
Jumps at me from 54897234 kilometers away for instant mega damage plus poison shit. Fuck. Blighttown on two legs: The boss. ARRRRGH

Maybe people should quote this a few times to help the new players out. I will give a brief outline on the *basics* since there seems to be quite a bit of confusion. As a new player myself ( received the game on the 14th ) many of the hard aches are still fresh and if I knew the info im telling you now...my time would have been much more enjoyable with the first few hours...and bosses in the game.

- first and foremost this is not a point A-B game. Your objective is never to run through the level in one sitting. You should prioritize on going one step forward and retreating back to cash in your echoes for gear/level up. Never stockpile them just because. Always have an item in mind you want or get just enough to level and use them. This is how you progress.

- As you get better gear, level your weapons and character you will find it easier to go that extra step forward. This may lead you to a short cut back to point A. Once that short cut is unlocked via a door/elevator etc your journey becomes easier. You can now progress from point A to even further areas by taking those short cuts. This principle applies to the ENTIRE game and all areas. Your goal is always to simply find a shorter way back to your initial starting point (lamp regardless of which one you spawned from)

- treat it kind of like an MMO...not a hack and slash. You need to farm blood vials/bullets/bloodshards for lvling gear and of course echos to level your character. There gets a point where this is less of a focus but at the start stick to this.

So when you die you lose all your blood echoes? Am I supposed to constantly go back to the hub and use the blood echoes on thangs. You can't bank/store them? About to start my first Souls game.

That's the risk in the soul games. Spent your souls/echos but revive all enemies or save it up but with the risk of loosing them. You get one chance if you die to get them back but since every enemy can fuck you up, it's still very risky fighting your way back to your echoes.
That's part of the thrill.

God this can't be quoted enough.

Even though I didn't enjoy my first session this morning, I'm still looking forward to getting back into it tonight. Is this normal?

Yep, very strange. I didn't notice any noticeable
effect from the "frenzy." Not sure how long it lasts, if at all.

Okay it's in rest mode... and there's no real way of documenting the speed of this now, obviously ._. Should I just check back in 30 minutes and see if it's gone faster?

Chill the fuck out yoshi. You got a free game. You'll be playing soon. Anytbing else comes off as just hugely whiney.

Seriously. It'll be all right.

Give it 1 hr and see where its at.

If your connection is decent, 15 GB left should not take long under proper speeds.

I have 25 mbps and download about 14 GB per hour.

Who's TeamCane here? I just found the saw spear and the moveset seems more practical, but the cane is way more fun to screw around with.

Should I keep levelling skill? I'm al like 16 and only have the cane to +1. I'm at the
father whatshisname
fight.

I've had it in rest mode for the last 4 or 5 hours...last I checked it went from 6 to 11.69 gb.

Still slow as hell.

Could've just let us download the thing yesterday... >.>

is it abnormal to be playing for 5.5 hours and still be up to the part with the enemies surrounding the burning thing... Jesus Christ..

No. Have platinum in DeS and DaS but it took me hours to leave that area behind because the wolfs fucked me up and then i tried to rush back to them and someone always got me. Now i'm lvl'd up a bit and this is no problem anymore. You also learn how much space you need to avoid enemy attack. These games have a nice learning curve.

just leave it until is supposed to unlock, is not going to make it unlock faster lol
Just want to make sure it's actually downloading at all, hence why I want to check in 30 minutes so that those MB's aren't wasted :/

Out of all the games to be the first digital pre-load game, I had to choose this one!

My CE was finally delivered by Amazon. My wife is going to grab it from the office downstairs and then install all the updates and stuff so it'll be ready by the time I get home.

It's going to be a long 5.5 hours...

Finally reached the first boss, and beat it in my first try.

It was going pretty rough for me up until that point, but then it clicked, and I started to get the knack for fighting through the mobs. I also got some gear and that helped too.

Those damned dogs just before the first boss kept killing me so I just ran past them, lol. Seemed to be a fine tactic for the moment.
