I'm a lvl 13 or 14 with the saw weapon at +2. I also have 20 blood vials and 20 bullets. I think I can beat the first boss now.
If I can just manage to hit him in the damn head.

wait until he finishes a combo it will reveal his head. also gun his head when he is stationary. 3 bullets will open up is riposte animation.

His attacks are easiest to dodge from right at his feet, surprisingly.

Look at the scaling for the weapons you like. If the Skill Scaling is C or better, then put points into skill. If it scales well with Strength, then put points into Strength.

Thanks! Is this something I should start leveling early on? I'm about to get to the second boss.

I BEAT HIM

Consider me jealous of everyone playing this game right now, my copy has been at the UPS depot all day and they won't bother to deliver it till tomorrow. =(

How's the map to this game? Never played DSII but played the first one and I loved that map with all the cool shortcuts and how everything connected. People were saying DSII map was shit compared to I. Is it any better in this game?

GOT THAT SUMBITCH OOOOOOO YEAH!!!!!

After hours of screwing around, tore his ass up. Only used 5 vials too. Ha! Fuck that guy

Good god I love this game.

Feel like I'm doing something wrong here. I've only gotten the early checkpoint at the top of the ladder, and I've gone a long ways from there, on several different paths, and haven't found another checkpoint yet. I've died three times in like four hours trying to get through these areas, and ultimately had to stop playing, losing every single soul (or whatever you call them).

Should I be going back to spend before reaching another checkpoint, say after
the boss ramming at the door (assuming this is a boss)?
? I'm wondering if I should be heading back after a certain point to get equipment or level (not even sure I can do that yet). Also,
is the second boss that everyone is referring to the guy on the bridge beyond the two huge four legged beasts?

The guy making the door rumble is just a normal enemy. Try running past the enemies in the courtyard with the bonfire. They are pretty tough to take down. It's not to hard to just make a break for it and run past. most of them don't pursue you.

Do you mean when he swings and keeps his arm down for a second? Or after the really long combo? The only time I've managed to hit his is when he does the ground pound move and bows his head, but he rarely does that one.

Do I have to find something before I can repair my weapons durability? It's running low and I can't repair it.

Nvm I'm dumb I found it.

Souls new here. I've really gotten the hang of the combat, but I'm confused about something. Should I be finding more of those portal points that leave me closer to where I die, or do I literally have to slog through every enemy I killed for the past 20 minutes to get back to where I died again?

I've already +1ed my hunter axe. Should I stick with that or go kirkhammer? So far I find the kirkhammer underwhelming.

Look around. There are shortcuts that help with the first area majorly.

I'm stuck on the part before the big thing is banging on the door. Is there a lantern I'm missing in between that part? I got to the hidden path with the sewer, but I died.

Great game so far.

Anyone else think maybe Yarnham wouldn't have so many problems with beasts if they just, oh I don't know, buried all the fucking caskets that are lying around everywhere? :)

Just beat
Cleric Beast!
Proud of myself for getting him on my first try as this is my first Souls game.
I'm sure he was a breeze for the rest of ya's

You can break his arm when it's near the ground. I didn't find it that helpful. What helped me was to stay right as his legs and dodge into his attacks so that you end up behind him as he swings. then I would do a combo or a charge r2. rinse and repeat. you can also shoot his head, both his chest and head can be targeted. when you shoot his head. look for a moment when it will be briefly still. 2-4 shots from your gun will break his face, stunning him. Then you can walk up quickly and press R1 for a high damage riposte.

The time I killed him I didn't actually do a riposte. If you are having trouble ending him when he's frenzied at low life take a few molotovs with you and use those at the end.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered a hundred times, but what's the deal with the pre-order messenger skins? I preordered from amazon, but the game case itself has no insert with like a code to enter for the bonus.

Alright starting to get in the groove. First boss clear, opened up some paths getting some gear options (kirkhammer time soon ohoh ohoh oh ohoh oh). Wanna keep playing but work tomorrow means I've gotta get some sleep. Happy hunting all.

Found the first shortcut on my own, without any help, and so far have only died once, not including the introductory death. I'm so proud of myself! I think the fact that I always played without a shield in all the Souls games is really to my advantage for playing through Bloodborne. Still working on getting over my instinct to duck and recover from enemies instead of going back in to restore some health, though.

I've been two handing the Hunter Axe from the beginning and it's worked fantastically for me through four bosses. The visceral attack is especially great.
