This game is fucking hard.

By far the hardest of the souls games.

Whoever spread the rumor that is easier needs to see a doctor.

The large knight in the first area owned me so hard.Beating him felt like beating a tough boss.

I died more on the first two bosses than on Maneater, O&S, and Gwynn all three combined.

That's really funny, because the first boss here took me two tries and I beat him solo, while the Last Giant in Dark Souls 2 took me about 6 or 7 tries AND I had to summon help to finally beat it. It's interesting to me how different bosses in different games give people more grief.

Ok so, what does Madman's Knowledge do exactly? It says it gives me insight, but I'm not sure what insight is in the context of Bloodborne.

Also, what is the little eye symbol below the blood echoes counter. It says I have 4, but I don't even know what I have 4 of.

Just beat the beast btw.

Apparently the key thing I wasn't doing on the Cleric Beast fight was taking my damn time.

FEELS GOOD.

I can't imagine how this game is for first time Souls players. According to PSN, this afternoon only 20% of online players had cleared the first boss. Only 1.5% had gotten past the 4th one where I currently am. That is nuts. I love it.

I actually think rushing into the middle is a good strategy. If you do that you aggro everyone except the two up on the left side and the dog. By doing this you can lure them all back to a bottle neck letting you take on only 1-2 at a time.

It's a good strat for when you have experience under your belt with the combat system. But he's a new player so I think it's better he go the tried and true, patient method. But it's up to him really and his style of play.

But yea, that's similar to what I did. Just group em up, kill the shooters first, then go ham.

Insight is basically like this game's version of Humanity. You don't lose it when you die but you do use Insight to use the Beckoning Bell (aka summoning players for co-op sessions) or to buy items from one of the merchants in the Hunter's Dream. You gain Insight for entering a boss's lair, beating a boss, helping someone online beat a boss, using a Madman's Knowledge, etc.

Stheres a shop that opened up in hunters dream that uses insight as currency (need 10 to open). You need 1 point in insight to unlock leveling up. You also need to spend 1 point of insight every time you want to summon ppl for coop

Ok, now i'm stuck.

I beat

Cleric Beast
Blood-starved Beast
Father Gascoigne
Vicar Amelia

Where to next?

Also,
my shop hasn't updated in ages. Is that normal?

Yeah the FPS tanks hard there on co-op. It stuttered a bit even on solo in the opening area too.

The boss seems to act really weird online too. It has a lunging attack but online it skips the animation and looks like it teleports.
Yah solo I was getting a few audio stutters. Nothing too bad but there's a lot of visual effects going on.

Ah yeah that area was painful for me with the cane, was much easer when I restarted with the axe. You can acully hold circle to run and run past the whole group. The exit is on the left side of the bonfire because the wooden door in the middle is locked. If you run far enough the enemies in the middle will stop chasing

Ok I ran past them. Thanks. Now I found a hidden path and then I died.. Lol back to same spot.

I love you gaf. Thanks.

Played all day and barely made it out of the first area. Farthest I've gotten is the sewer area with the rats. Guess I'll try again tomorrow. Feel like I'm screwing it all up. I like the way the game plays, but I feel like every death is my fault, which is the point. But my patience is wearing thin. I'll try again tomorrow.

From the Grand Cathedral lamp post head down the stairs and go to the right when you pass the two Healing Church dudes with those weird wooden cross-like weapons. The area you want to go to is that way.

Only got to play for a couple hours tonight but I beat the Cleric Beast with the help of a friend so I feel like I made some progress at least, haha. Having a blast with the game so far. I absolutely love the setting and art direction, and I can't wait to play more tomorrow! :)

I have to say, I echo the level design sentiments. I didn't realize how much I missed the interconnected nature of Dark Souls 1, which was so obviously missing from 2 until I played Bloodborne. Just exploring the world is fan-fucking-tastic.

And not only that, the level design in BB completely trumps anything in DS2. My god, From!

2 bosses down. Loving this game. Second bosses 'arena' was frustrating. Can't wait to start up tomorrow.

Rocking the cane. You can get like 10 swings off with it in one stamina charge. It's a beast. Converting to whip mode takes out enemies (like birds) without them needing to get too close.

Good stuff.

Cane here also and loving it

Sometimes patients really is a virtue.
Definitely. The first few times I fought him I was trying to get it done quick and dirty. I was going immediately for the eyes (they are the crotch of the face, after all) and figuring I could take him out with a could crits and some moltovs.

Whacking at his ass over a period of 3-4 minutes was much easier.

I would go after the witch thats in the village to the left of the Vicar Amelia boss entrance

Beat Father. His attacks were pretty avoidable. Helped that I leveled a couple times and upgraded axe first. Now for the stat allocation decisions!

Yharnam is sublime looking too.

The world just takes your breath away with its sheer beauty.

So much love for the cane over here.

Starting to regret my saw choice. I'm sure the game was designed in a way where there are no bad decisions. Right?

Seriously what's the best approach in using this fucking saw?

How do I spend my "souls" to level up? I havent found anything to do it in the hunter's dream.

Here's a tip.
If run run past the werewolves, you'll notice a stairway into a building to your left. Go in there and follow that path. It'll give you a shortcut back to the second lantern.

Thanks, you saved me.

Any tips on the 3rd boss? Got one shotted once I was grabbed. Thinking of using the bell to summon someone.
If you're comfortable with parrying, that's the way to go for sure. It does a decent amount of damage and helps avoid the status effects in its later forms. Otherwise you just have to play it very patient and only attack when you know it's safe. I summoned friends to help and it made a big difference for me.

Beat the Cleric Beast spamming molotovs and rolling around like an idiot. Finished the fight with a lucky riposte, which is pretty cool. Still think it's a bad first boss fight.
