Yep. I came upon a note right before his area saying something like "friend ahead". I instinctively attacked him of course but was saddened to see a three hit combo not move his health bar a sliver.
Yes! Same happened to me. I also attacked but I somehow noticed that he wasn't trying to attack me at first. I died and went back hoping it would reset, but he attacked me immediately lol

It is? Is it past the second boss? I decided to backtrack a bit after progressing after there, as the day was slowly turning to night. Perhaps she's after him, or can I fight her before I can fight him?

it's not a fight but I don't want to completely spoil it for you. She's in that same graveyard area that the boss fight was in. You have to run up the stairs then drop down to get to her

Ugh, really starting to dislike the combat system. Lack of shield has had a negative impact on combat imo.

Second boss, whatever the fuck his name is, I don't see how I'm supposed to fight him properly, like at all. Dude just non stop bumrushes me. And I'm already out of bullets for trying to "parry" him after 2 tries. And I'm not gonna fucking farm 20 bullets for each try...

Learn the spacing and learn when he attacks. Then go for the kill. Like i told someone earlier, your charged R2 stuns him, even if he hits you while doing it. Make good use of that regain system, that's your new shield.

I finally found the lure of the soul games. I've never really gotten on with them despite playing them all for a few hours.

Picked up bloodborne today due to the incredible impressions I've been reading and I've played a couple of hours this evening.

It fucking clicked instantly. The first street you get to with the dozen or so enemies. Clearing that out first time without dying while creeping around corners and planning my attack felt incredible.

I was tense. My heart was racing. It was unlike anything I've felt before in gaming. This was from the first 20 minutes. Over the next hour I crawled around the first area without meeting any bosses because I wanted my first night with the game to be fairly chill.

But wow. What a way to start. That feeling you get when you successfully complete a specific area is incredible.

You have to play it quite a bit differently than a Souls game. Are you being more aggressive then you would in Souls, and taking advantage of the quickstepping and regain mechanics?

I love how this game actually break peoples will! :D

3rd boss spoilers.

Beat the BSB on my first attempt thanks to a follower that I talked to around the Church area. He tanked all the hits while I was able to get easy back stabs. Though he was unable to tank through the final form and that form is pretty cheap. Luckily I had enough antidotes to power through the poison and played defensively enough to beat him on first try.

Should I buy the other Hunter weapons to try them out, or will I get them from drops?
I have't gotten a Hunter weapon as a drop yet so if you want to try the other weapons out then you have to buy them.

Any recommendation for a complete newbie? Never touched a souls game before so I'm getting my harsh introduction

1. Battling multiple people is a bad idea, try to lure them out one by one.

2. In this game if you get hit you have a short window where you can recover most of your health back.

3. Every room is a death trap. Approach it slowly and do a quick taunt at the door and run back to see if anybody follows you.

4. Bosses require a lot of patience.

5. If you have a lot of blood points before entering boss door, go spend them. It's worth it. Chances are you won't defeat boss on first try and might forget to pick them up and lose them. Which reminds me, whenever you die go to where you died and find your souls back. You can only get them back if you pick them up before dying again.

6. This one might not be as popular but use a guide. It will help a lot and these games are notorious for having secret hidden paths with really useful items or leading you to your death because FUCK YOU that's why.

I searched and saw that it's been asked several times but I don't think I found an actual answer on the difference between
sending people to the clinic or the chapel. I was thinking about sending people to the clinic because the thing at the chapel was a creeper, but I have a feeling the clinic isn't going to go well either.

So I just played Bloodborne for 3 hours or so. The first hour was spent on character creation (went average middle-aged guy with saw-cleaver and pistol) and the remaining 2 hours were spent on WALKING through the streets of Yharnam.

I've actually found it safer to WALK through Yharnam since a lot of enemies that lurk in corners or dead angles prefer to jump on you when you're up close and personal. They can't surprise you if they still have to travel the 10 meters or so that it takes to get within striking range. That equates to something like an extra second or two of time for me to react. I've mostly been slaughtering things and trying to get myself fully equipped with Hunter gear.

That said, Yharnam is a beautifully decrepit place.

So awesome when it clicks with somebody! That's exactly how I felt when Dark Souls finally clicked (although it took quite a bit longer for me).

Ah, I see. Which of the options is better to send the girl, though? Assuming that not giving her the brooch makes her unable to go anywhere. I have the feeling the clinic is run by a shady woman, but the cathedral is ran by a very clearly shady person.

Thats what you get for relying on a shield in the previous games. :D

btw
there is one in this game, but I wouldnt really recommend using it.

Been a halberd user so the axe + me = dead shit everywhere. Love this transforming weapon system. Makes for some interesting combos.

I guess my final question before heading to bed is if we have a clear answer on what the trick form of the weapons have an advantage on. My understand is that:

basic form- less range but more DPS

transformed form- more range, can easily hit multiple people, but less dps.

Is this right or am I missing something obvious?

Not every trick weapon just extends the range so that's not entirely accurate. I'm still very early on but some weapons completely change when they transform. I believe the Kirkhammer for example, is a sword in basic form, and a hammer when transformed. Which is pretty significant compared to something like the Cleaver which just gets more range and a different moveset.

My guess would be faction related?

I'm pretty much spamming the dodge move to not get run the fuck over by him, especially in the later parts of the fights. And the regain mechanic is completely fucking utterly useless on this fight as far as I can tell, like, what? I'm supposed to start mindlessly attacking him in the few seconds after I get hit by him to regain health? No, fuck that, if I do that, I'm gonna lose the rest of my hp because the dude litterally never stops attacking in a flurry

Did anyone else get stuck between those shelves in Central Yharnam near the
wheelchair man with gun
enemy? I made it through the entire level without dying and got stuck there. I was pissed until I was able to get out with some weird combination of running, jumping, and rolling.

next time something like that happens just use the hunter's mark.

You can taunt?

Not sure yet honestly. The cathedral thing is super super creeper and I feel like it's just going to eat anyone I send there, heh.

The trick is to keep killing the same shit again and again because I don't really have a handle on the controls or enemy behaviors so I just lose a half hour to an hour of progress because I can't find another goddamn save point.

The game is constantly saving. Use a blood vial. Saved. Check the icon on the top right.

Thanks man! I am going to have to take another stab at it after work tomorrow

Dont make a massive gap between you and him after he transforms as then the asshole will just go mario stomping all over the place which is pretty accurate.

Learn what his attacks in his final form cant destroy and use those to your advantage.

I just beat Father G. Here is how I did it:

Run to the other side at the start, because the opening is not a good place to be. Find the area with two circles of graves. Use those for cover from his gunshots. I used the Hunter Axe, so I don't know what other weapons can do.

Wait for him to attack. Memorize his attack patterns between the two weapon stances. Right as an attack ends, hit forward and R2 to do a leaping slash while in 2H stance. This has massive range and stuns. R1 after that for a second free hit. Then dash backward. Rinse and repeat. You will take some gunshots, and you just need to accept it and heal through them. I never died on form 1.

Form 2 is much more difficult. If you can parry, great, but I suck at partying. Instead, side step a LOT. Sometimes you need to sidestep through 3-4 attacks in a row. Then get a swing or two in. Because he is fast and his health is low, your instinct is to rush him down. Resist that urge and play it smart. Sidestep, hit, etc. Don't overdo it on attacks, you can't lock him down with stuns.

It took me four tries to beat him, and all three deaths were trying to figure out form 2. If you get hit by form 2, you are almost certainly screwed too much to heal. He just moves too fast. I did get two heals off, but it almost got me killed even trying.

LOL, I did the same thing, thinking perhaps I had provoked him. Went back a second time hoping for some dialog only to get slaughtered again.

Be careful using the
Music Box
too many times on
Gascoigne
as it makes him transform a lot sooner than usual and makes it MUCH harder.

I mean the cane transforms into a whip, but unless I'm fighting multiple enemies it's slower, takes more stamina, and does less damage but a HECK of a lot more range. Then I tried the cleaver and it did it similarly to a lesser extent. That's why I'm curious

what do I do with the music box

2nd boss fight. Use it near the enemy to have him stagger

The axe for example the 2H form destroys "humans" like nothing R2 -> R1 = dead if not already killed from the first hit. 1H form most def does take more "effort" so to speak to kill a human.

Could just be that the resistance type of the particular enemy you are fighting is strong against blunt attacks.

Yeah must be more to it. I always wanted the kirkhammer cause of the sweet gif but I was doing really well with the axe...thinking about going back to it.

Put a solid 3 hours into it tonight, amazing game, up there with DeS and DS1. I pretty much accomplished nothing in the first few hours because I kept dying and never found any insight so I couldnt level. Eventually I found one so I leveled up a bit and purchased the 4 new pieces of gear, upgraded my weapon twice and ended up killing the first boss and calling it a night. As someone who was always a shield user in the Souls games, it took me a while to get used to dodging/gun riposting but I'm finally getting it.
