Question for those playing...

Do you think From have made the difficulty on Bloodborne higher than normal to encourage the regain system? Is it too difficult for new players?

I think the regain system is a way to encourage more aggressive play, which then feeds into learning how to effectively dodge and counter. So maybe?

I'm dying to the same group lol, trying to find a path to pick them off but man they keep rushing me eventually...
I try to engage them 1v1 or 1v2. Anymore than that and I'm getting overwhelmed. Managed to kill one Marksman, then a damn mutant dog pops up out of nowhere. Command roll to dodge the other marksman on the stagecoach, then turn around just in time to kill the dog. Shot the marksman off the stagecoach then killed him. Guess I'll go through this open corridor on the left....

Or head to this door in the center that has an item in front it, but something on the other side trying to bust it down.

YOLO

Aaaaand still alive. On to the other door.

For those getting stuck around the fire pyre in the first area, try using pebbles to lure individual enemies away from the horde - you don't need to face them all head on.

You need 1 insight (eye under the blood echos), either by just seeing a boss (no need to beat it, you can just warp back with the hunters mark after the fight starts) or find an insight in the level elsewhere without seeing one of the bosses. With 1 insight you can see
that the doll in the hunters dream is alive. She can level you up. You also have access to the house and the workbench

Ah cool man. Cheers.
I guess I shouldn't be hoarding to much blood until I've unlocked it then because odds are I'll die anyway :)

Hahaha so close till this motherfucker with a torch burned me to death, man I almost had them all...

You guys arent alone, I spent a good 3 hours last night on this bit gradually learning how to play the game (my first foray in the souls type games).

A great tactic that will save you being over run is to take care of the enemies on the main road then heaf up to the right (up the stairs. Then from there you can run down to the main path and lure them up the stairs three at a time and take care of the. Then you can bypass the sniper at the far end and run up to the opposite flank and take care of the dude on the coach and the wolf leaving you with the sniper at ground level.

Then unfortunately the next area us just as hard. I got what I thought was really far only to get absolutelt battered by a group of rats.....which threw me back at the starting area...

Does anyone have any tips for genuine noobs at these games. I feel like I have formed my own strategies but i dont think they are right...I seem to be almost winging it throug.

Still as hard as it isis, i played the same area for three hours straight, must be doing something right.

Also another silly question, when do I get another checkpoint/save. My nerves cant take It?

Im stuck at Old Yharnam, killed the hunter, cleared area after, found a shortcut ladder lead back to center area, don't know where to go.

Some of Father G's chains are bullshit. You get hit once and then he chains the rest of the combo in while you're on the ground and there's nothing you can do :/

Whoever said that locations are not varied or diverse enough should burn on a pole. Just entered an area which is by far the best in the game in my opinion , best part about it is an optional zone.

Look for shortcuts to unlock that lead you back to the same lamp.

Which zone and how do you know it's for sure optional?

If it's any comfort - after you beat second boss shit gets easier. More save points/lamps and you can actually explore before meeting the third boss. I felt that I went straight from first to second boss meaning I spent the entire day yesterday in the same area.

So if you guys feel you're stuck in the same beginning area do know that the rest of us was in a similar position. Just hang in there =]

I fucking hate loving this game so much. It's so frustrating, especially today since I'm sleep deprived as fuck. BUT IT'S SO GODDAMN GOOD

I CAN'T STOP PLAYING

I don't have the game just yet, but from what I've seen there are numerous shortcuts that help you get back to the lamp - take a look around and you should find some. There's one through the house that's adjacent to the big bridge with the wolves. After you kill the
cleric beast
you get a new lamp.

Man, this game is almost painful to play after Dark Souls 2 PC. Loading times have been like quadrupled after death, and the fps is killer. Not all negativity from me though, as the extra perf floor has really helped them here, as the levels look awesome as the geometry from scene to scene looks to have trippled over DS1/2 and the textures look a ton better.

Also my monior doesn't support limited RGB so the game looks ultra washed out even on RGB full setting T_T. With this, the Wii U, and the 'bone having RGB issues I need to just cave and buy me a cheapass 1080p thing that's about 20 inches that I can shove into a corner or something....

Also, I've been kinda wandering around all dumbass like with no idea how chaining shots or using the two arms in tandem is supposed to work. Also the cane weapon I started out with seems to have some kind of whip function at random that I don't know how to access. Speaking of which, seriously the person who decided to ship this game without any kind of manual at all needs to be taken out back and be forced to read Atlus Shrugged cover to cover or something, because these little one off note blips on totally new mechanics just aren't cutting it at all.

Pressing L1 is how you change it into a whip. Also the white marks on the ground at the beginning gave instructions for controls and how to play. I believe you can also see controls through the start menu.

Fucking bridge wolves. Damn, that put me all the way back. Fucking bridge wolves!

Click spoiler if you want to know shortcut back to lantern.

Run past the wolves and to the left down the stairs into the house. Open the door down the stairs and go up the stairs outside and open the gate. Back at lantern now with easy access to bridge.

Oh and another thing, just how conservative should I be with ammo and health items? The game seems to be dropping them pretty heavily on me atm, but Dark Souls 2 did the same thing early on with the lifegems before they pretty much just stopped dropping after about 5 hours in.

I tried looking up the controls in the start menu but didn't see them, and sorry, but having to jump between three long ass loading screens just to look at the base controls vs looking at the manual in my lap when needed just doesn't cut it as an excuse. Especially in a game like this where they're treading new ground and expanding the "series" core mechanics so much.

My arcane build dude's game is fucked so I loaded up my whipcane noble scion and proceeded to demolish BSB in one shot. I missed the whip cane.

Bad news is that his bullets seem to disappear into the same void that my other character's vials slip into.

Why are guns so incredibly weak and yet apparently supposed to be a staple of your combat flow?
If you time the gunshots perfectly, you stagger the enemy and you can riposte it for massive damage.

The Ludwig's Holysword is fucking godly.
FUCKING GODLY!
It feels like the Drakesword already.
I mean fucking claymore stab from literally 10yrd away with fast animation and flawlessly chaining combos in?
One shooting everything.
Fuck you, fuck you, and fuck you too.
Give me your souls, you won't be needing it.

So its a fast as a Claymore? If its so, im settled.

I have no idea about this, but doesn't the game have a manual before you start it? Try and press option on the game and see if there's a manual button. I seem to remember that some games have it like this.

Loving it so far.

Side dashing can feel so exhilarating :)

However ...
'Cannot proceed until the game is fully installed' just popped up after boss #2 lol

Fucking bridge wolves. Damn, that put me all the way back. Fucking bridge wolves!

had no problems with all the mobs but these guys were a roadblock. You can avoid them if you want, if you go another route (where it leads to Boss Father G) (hidden drop behind some crates).
Tackled them after i level up a bit and molotoved the first one and fought the other around the fountain (area before the stairs to them). Sideway doging is way better for them instead of going back.

Hahaaa, thanks.

Why are guns so incredibly weak and yet apparently supposed to be a staple of your combat flow?

Because your gun is there to be a counter. Just before an enemy attacks with a big swing or something of the same if you shoot them in their startup animation they will be staggered, which if you are close enough, will allow you to riposte them (it's essentially a parry without a shield).

Right before they hit you, shoot and it staggers them. Then you can "riposte" them or do a charge attack. Big guys with the bricks die in one hit with this. (shoot them right before they hit with the brick, they go on their knee > charge attack and it's insta death for them)

Will try this. Almost back there now.
