Looking at the videos PoE seems relatively straight forward once you get the mechanics down, but that might just be my love of CRPGs
Lol... that's true.

........

For anyone on the fence about buying/not buying the Guidebook, this might interest you:

Reading up on some of these gods, it almost making me consider going priest
almost...
chanter masterclass

But seriously I really love the
death & ocean
deities and the traditions associated with them

I like the way you think. Also need to rebeat Witcher 2 for my perfect save file.

Don't be silly, there is no perfect save file for TW2 :P.
I have 5 different save files and not sure which I am gonna import.

Anyone knows when the game unlocks at GOG? And if there will be any preload option?

Same for me.
Of course, they can always delay TW3 again
A third delay would be my last, that is for sure.

But for now, can't keep my hype in check for PoE. Hnggg..

Ok, I finally read the manual.
Paladin it is!

Well I was responding to the posters who were talking about playing TW2 and TW3

I don't have a PS4. /cry
Well, I never beat a Souls game and I have no plan to get Bloodborne for now. I suck at those games, even though I managed to beat TW2 on dark difficulty.

Right anyone who bought a backer key off me will be receiving a PM in the next hour or so with their key.

Edit: Done all keys sent to folks. :)

Thanks man, you're the best. Bloodborne is stressful as fuck so this is pretty much the perfect game to play between BB sessions. Or BB is the perfect game to play between PoE sessions.

Had the chance to try this early thanks to a press copy. Suffice to say this is exactly what I expected from Obsidian and it really does herald the return of the true RPG genre. Such a gorgeous game as well, the backdrops are so damn mesmerising.

Up until I go to work, four hours I think, I'll be able to buy backer copies for people ($25) so let me know if anyone wants one.

I just made a pre-order for the Guidebook at Amazon.co.uk (and paid extra for next day delivery) as it was listing the 26th March as the release date - but estimated date for delivery after I placed the order is showing as 18th April. Gutted. Maybe they have back orders to fill?

I guess there's nowhere to get this in digital PDF unless you're a backer?

I'd very much have liked a Kindle version :(

I wonder if GMG will get their keys today.

Does anyone have the guide for loading custom portraits?

! Massive spoiler warning !
Also I can actually see the first mod being
Calisca lives and continues being a companion.
People seem to love

Reading through the guide I've stumbled upon this on Page 15:

Attack and Defense

All attacks in Pillars of Eternity rely on using Accuracy to overcome one or
more of the target’s four defenses. The Accuracy of an attack is determined
by the character’s class, level, equipment, and special bonuses.
Deflection is used to resist most weapons and the natural attacks of
monsters. It is defined primarily by the character’s class and level. No
attributes affect Deflection
. Fortitude helps characters defend against
attacks that can physically overpower them, such as knockdowns,
poison, or disease (Might and Constitution). Reflexes resist area
attacks like fi reballs or a dragon’s breath (Dexterity and Perception).
Mental attacks almost always target the character’s Will (Intellect and
Resolve). As with Accuracy, characters’ defenses all increase as they
gain levels.

Interesting, from what I've read and had explained to me there is or at least was attributes that contributed to your deflection (Resolve and Perception I think). So either the Manual is outdated or things have changed between the latest beta and the release build :d.

http://eternity.obsidian.net/manual/errata

- Perception now affects Interrupt, Deflection, and Reflex.
- Resolve now affects Concentration, Deflection, and Will.

Various things have changed since the manual was finalized to be printed (probably months ago).

Ah nevermind then!

I'm a bit confused about this. So there's 4 books:

Cooking with Tim -> Recipes
Strategy guide -> Outdated guide
Collector's book -> Lore
Almanac -> Lore+

Which of those is the Guidebook? Strategy guide I guess, but it seems to be a lore book also... maybe all of them have things in common but push more in one or another direction (Except cooking with Tim, this seems pretty straightforward)

The errata solves the problem of what attributes have been changed, now deflection is affected by perception. So yes, the guide is outdated.

The Guidebook is the Collector's Book. It is not a strategy guide, but rather a guide to the world.

Every time when I'm excited for a game I think "Man, the steam forums are a pretty good idea. There are a bunch of people who also want to play the game, let's go there and talk with them! Why do I never visit them?"
And then I go there. Then I remember.

Damn, just watched the IGN video in the OP. I have not being paying attention. This game looks awesome.

The thread makes it seem this is still in Beta. Is there going to be an new OT??

Can someone explain how Interrupt works? It doesn't seem to be explained in the manual and the wiki is rather unclear.

Interrupt is very important if you are planning to play a caster
Judging from the ruleset in that IGN video is seems like a nice mix of 4e monster design and other stuff cherry picked from different editions. I approve.

I thought OTs went up 24 hours in advance, no?
HP Wuvcraft called dibs on making the new OP
Vomit
Still Aloth to be romanceable for comedic value

I think I'm going flavor over mecanics for my main character.

Moon Godlike Chanter named Bowie :D

Now on to chose some lyrics to use as custome Chant names.

Was there ever an RPG were the romance didn't feel awkward and forced?
I liked the Annah/FFG stuff in Torment. It was relatively subtle by today's standards.

Romance could be excellent in videogames, it really could; it just requires good writing. The problem is that Bioware has reduced it to a bizarre minigame where you select favorable dialogue options after every major quest in order to unlock a (stilted, unsexy) sex scene just before the final battle. Every time.

Eh, they weren't too bad in BG2, as far as videogames go, but that's mostly because it was all text. Imagination is much better at envisioning this kind of thing than awkward voice acting combined with awkward polygons bumping into each other.

GOG Galaxy can't do pre-loads yet, so I'm stuck waiting! Really wonder why they haven't sent out messages to backers about generating their keys.

Do I have to make snarky remarks about PS4 games/gamers to fit in?

Probably true. I guess Bioware's modell just completely (and somewhat ironically) turned me off the idea of romance in games. And I actually kinda liked the romance in Kotor.
I guess I just have enough of the "Press Upper right during dialogues to sleep with character" modell. That's not even a romance, it's a one night stand.
