One of two things:

Either have a Wiki open

or

Be prepared to spend a lot of time clearing out and scouring areas multiple times

Depends on how you want to find your obscure things. So far it doesn't seem to be as jam-packed as DaS1 was, but I'm still in the first area so who knows.

Thanks for clarifying. Ughhhhh I'm so undecided. I liked demons souls a lot because I had more time when the game came out. Dark souls I didn't like because I ain't got time for that.

When I speak gems, I mean thise that augment not the ones for upgrading. You just "unequip" them from the weapon.

yeah the Gem system is interesting

I looks like you can just swap them in and out of a weapons slots as you please.

So far the gems I have only provide small upgrades

I have no idea where I got this Ashe set from but it was available for me to buy with insight. I really wish there was an easier way to take pictures of your character.

First impressions, random thoughts:

- looks like Dark Souls. Not great on a technical level, but better than past games in the series.
- enemies are punishing in a very different way than Dark Souls. A good offense is the best defense this time around.
- my blunderbuss feels useless. I haven't been able to make sense of the stagger timing at all.
- the first world is pretty confusing at first. It took me 2 hours to finally find the shortcut back to the first lamp. The map layout slowly started to come together in my head at that point. Still, the map design is far more complex than Dark Souls, which had far less branching paths.
- those crows are terrifying and hilarious
- the charge mechanic feels pretty great, especially with the hammer.
- I don't find myself switching between weapon modes that often mid-combo. I feel the weapon switch attack animation should deal more damage to reward switching mid-combo.

I've beaten the first boss and gotten to the second. Actually, I got to the second boss first and decided to explore some more when I spent all of my blood vials fighting him, and ended up stumbling on the first boss at that point. Mostly using the axe...I just got the hammer and while it does a lot of damage if you can time the charge attack right, it's pretty slow and punishing if you miss an attack or fail to stagger an enemy.

I can't believe I missed out on
finding the hunter armor
before fighting the first boss...that would have made it a lot easier.

I am getting a rainbow like shimmer in the game. It tends to come off metal railings and carriages.

Wow. This is pretty much exactly what my experience was. Well, except for getting the hammer.

Am I the only one who got owned by the patrolling group in the starting area ?
I mean I pull them to the stair I miscalculated my dodge distance it seems and they all attacked me at the same time and got one shoted -__-

I just focused raising my leveling points on Endurance (raises stamina and POISON RESISTANCE).Having some antidotes in stand-by also helped.

Got him/her ;p Definitely a lot easier dodging..didn't know that if you time it right you circle directly behind the enemy..easy charge attacks followed by backstabs.

Ran into an annoying bug yesterday. One of those white dogs was invincible. Usually they die after 2 R1 hits of the hunter axe, but this one just wouldn't die after 15+ hits even though his health bar was empty. Had to let it kill me because I was tired of it following and attacking me...

Note to self: Never have molotovs equipped in your quick slot when in hunters dream, always pebbles....

I keep throwing random molotovs by accident, god forbid I kill gerhman or the doll.....

Who is the first boss in the game? Before I had to go to work yesterday my first boss encounter was Father G. He stomped me out but I had to leave for work. Is the Cleric Beast supposed to be the first one? I'm kind of confused.

Id say Cleric Beast is. Just due to general location and ease to find. Plus truthfully CB is easier than the good Father.

That's the thing about this game, I can 1 shot those mobs but cockiness and 1 wrong dodge can still end me.

I keep getting kicked out of the game because of network errors whenever I try to use bells. Anyone else have this problem?

Is it closer to demons souls or dark souls?

Is this the kind of game you need a wiki open or else you'll miss a bunch of obscure things?
Closer to Demon's. Bloodborne rewards curiosity and exploration as much as any of the Souls games, but a Wiki can substitute.

I don't know if I know the difference, yet. (I don't think I've seen anywhere to upgrade a weapon.) I have a Tempering Blood Gemstone that seems to fit in the radial slot of my weapon, but I don't want to do anything irreversible.

EDIT: Okay, I dared to press X and it just equipped it. Phew. Wish I dared to do this earlier.

A couple hours in and I can already say that I'm very satisfied with the game.I've beaten the first 2 (funckin awesome) bosses.
I'm doing a completely blind solo offline run so I have no idea what I'm doing at times and some concepts are still opaque but I'm really enjoying it.

I'll come back once the thread calmed down a bit because it's going too quickly right now and I can't keep up with it.

Anyway, enjoy the game!

.

That is probably the Chromatic Aberration effect, it's part of the graphics.

Btw just got the game. I still have 4 fucking hours of work. Cant fucking wait for tonight!

The house in the Hunter's Dream has a workshop table for upgrading and repairing weapons.

I think there is no order. Most ppl are going to fight the cleric beast first because it's easier to find.

It figures I would find the harder boss first lol. Now I'm fucked because I have to go and get my blood thingys back from that Mongoloon. God damn I love this game ; )

I believe this is the expression you make when that happened.

What are you guys talking about :O

Can someone post a link to the video that is a guide to beginners, my friend is getting his shit handed to him because this is his first souls style game and I think it will help him a lot.

Two quick questions as someone that has gone into Bloodborne blind. I'm a few hours in and wondering if there is a visual diversity of areas similar to Dark Souls 1. Also, I know there are far less weapons but are there still all kinds of different and weird items with lore attached to it? So dar I haven't found much. And one more, are there shopkeepers or do you always just buy stuff from the messengers?

In case it wasn't already mentioned, the softcaps and hardcaps are:

Vitality ------ 30 / 50
Endurance -- NA / 40
Strength ---- 25 / 50
Skill --------- 25 / 50
Bloodtinge -- 25 / 50
Arcane ------ 25 / 50

I noticed after
25 STR
my damage bonus per point was less. I have no idea what Arcane is supposed to do outisde of item discovery. Many weapons have Arcane scaling on them, but so far there's no damage bonus associated with them when putting points into Arcane. For me at least.

Posting again for a new page.

Has anyone else seen that interstellar-esque ball of light in that grave site right out of the church?
Yes I was curious as to what it does. So I told my friend who was playing the game simultaneously with me to go there and let it touch him and see what happens.

He told me
a hand came out of it and grabbed him, lifted him a few feet in the air and killed him. Then something about getting "Frenzied" came up on the screen? In any case I don't think I want to try for myself :P

It happened to me earlier. It was creepy.
Definitely a hand like thing, takes you up and appears to look at you, then smack goes the weasel.

So you can upgrade them and then give them buffs?
You can unequip them again?
I didn't see any options to upgrade (which I still am not sure if it's a different menu yet), but yeah, I just equipped it into one of my weapon's gem slots. (I could equip and unequip it however I wanted.)
