Do you find weapons in this game? Or will I benefit from upgrading my starting weapon?

Both. You find weapons, you can buy weapons and its important that you upgrade weapons you use. The damage boost is very noticeable. Don't upgrade all the weapons, just the ones you like and use.

I started w/ the sawblade and love it- can I conceivably just use it the whole game?

If you like your starting weapon, theres no real harm in upgrading it, especially if you are only leveling from 1-3 (those items are easy to get/farm)

However, you will find weapons later in the game, mostly after beating bosses or finding specific items in the field and then having to buy them in the store.

Note that it isn't really a game about weapon progression, per se, meaning you aren't going to go through the game finding better and better weapons. It is more about finding one with the moveset you like and upgrading it

What level did you guys beat the Blood Starved Beast at? I was getting rekt last night. :(

Any tips?
I was having a realy tough time on him last night. I summoned several people at times and still managed to die, twice at 10% left. I was talking to a friend who was at the same part and someone he was summoning without psn. I asked how, but he said it was a npc. So I tried my luck with that and worked a lot easier just because the npc was able to tank waaaay more damage than another user. So maybe try your luck with that, unless you wanna do no a no summons play through.

So I went to this one female npc in this secret path a little ways past the house with the wheelchair guy you kill for bullets. She hands me two items but I can't find where the other item is on my inventory. A cape I believe it is. What does it do.
Also curious about this.

Beat the first couple bosses and I'm just bit underwhelmed by the environment so far. It's hard to navigate when everything looks so similar. Just a little too drab and brown with no sign of letting up. Hopefully the environments see more diversity as I go further.

can someone let me know if the runes workshop tool is available in an early game area and if I should have found it already if I have about 11 lanterns lit?

I don't want to know where it is, I just want to know if I should have found it already, because if so I'll go looking for it.

Fucking hell I accidentally shot
Gahrman
or whoever that guy in a wheelchair is in hunters dream. "I am a friend of the hunt..*BOOM*. He didn't seem to drop anything fwiw.

Hi guys i have not read the last pages but on an other forum some people say that the game is really esay for them and other say that the game is as dificult as the other Souls games.

20. Here was my successful run:
Third-Boss

Wait for it to swing at you with its right arm, that's a relatively easy parry. When it goes towards the sky to swing down, you can parry when its kind of standing at the very top.

I stayed the fuck away when it was in poison mode. There are three antidotes behind the altar. You have to take a few risks and abuse the regain mechanic to get a lot of damage off.
for me it was all about timing.
Don't get greedy. When he attacks, dodge back then do a jumping R2 attack then back out.
Rinse and repeat
Thanks ya'll, I'll try this out when I get home tonight.

I'm so bad at this game, and yet I keep going back. I've only played a couple of hours so far but I'm still in central Yharnam (obviously) but I haven't even reached the first boss yet. I had an unfortunate episode where, after carefully clearing the mob at the bonfire I was stuck in environment and it took me a while to realize that quitting the game was my only option to get free... and there was no penalty for it so that was a wasted 15 minutes of trying to clip free of the carriage lol.

What's the name of the short, round guy with the big axe? He killed me a couple of times last night, mainly because I get impatient and mess up when he's nearly dead. I'll kill him tonight and continue on, until I got frustrated last night when he killed me 3 times in a row the game was really clicking for me. I love how, even after getting a handle on how the combat works and having a great time just cruising through the regular enemies if you fuck up and get complacent even one of those assholes can kill you dead.

EDIT: lol at this point I have not upgraded anything or even hit R2 since I got weapons. I'll have to look into that maybe. ;)

I'm a couple hours in and I've only found one weapon, but gained the ability to buy a couple more on top of that. I get the feeling that anything is viable and shards will be plentiful later on so if you like your weapon, go for it. Right now I've got a new weapon equipped, but I'm carrying my starter weapon around (hunter axe) and keep it in a quick slot. I switch to it when I need to clear out a crowd with its wide spin attack.

Is this OTs final form?

It's not easy if you've never played souls but once you catch on to the combat system, learn the riposte and can effectively Dodge it's manageable. Game is really fun and Super satisfying once you get a hang of it.

The guy you fight in the
Grand Cathedral for Eileen's sidequest is so cheap with that dumbass gun one shotting me, invisible dashes, and him healing himself.

So is there no way to compare buyable equipment to what you currently have? I cant remember if this was the case with previous souls games.

Also, is the red specters not showing up a bug?

If the axe guy I'm thinking of is the same one, you don't have to kill him to continue. You actually want to go in the other direction towards the large mob of enemies.

Before I buy and switch - any downside to going pistol over blunderbuss?

I just feel like the blunderbuss is too slow. is the pistols timing window smaller?

Tip for 3rd boss
if you are having trouble with the blood starved beast and have talked to the religious knight guy you can summon him on top of a glowing gold note to the right of the stairs right before the room. He will make the fight much easier as he draws the bosses aggro

How did you know it was
an invisible creature? First time I got grabbed by it, I thought it was just some weird vortex.

As for an answer to your question:
I have no fucking idea. It's the spider thing with human hands from the previews. I think they're some sort of godly creatures in this world...

I actually just walked into it like an idiot to see what would happen

Man, I've wasted like 4 insight and I'm before a boss. Then come to find out there's an insight shop and I need 10 to access it. Great, I'm at 0 and I don't think there is a way to farm it... I'm fucked.

That big fella isn't needed to kill, his path leads to a dead end. More so just a test and you can farm him for blood gems I believe.

Best spot for farming
witches abode after getting the boss killed, get teleported back - kill some witches and 3 shielded axe wielding ogres
nets you about 10 blood vials and 10k blood echoes per 1 minute run.

OMG I did NOT know about L1.

Yeah, I'm ashamed to admit it but I played for about 3 hours on Saturday without knowing that L1 transformed weapons, I thought weapon transformations was something you unlocked as the story progressed lol.

Edit: Damn this thread moves fast, we'll hit OT2 by the end of the week for sure.

I went back and got
grabbed again a few times and rotated the camera. Could make out some sort of monster looking thing and a giant claw hand.

Ah, I didn't know you could
actually see it at that point. Later on you can get an item that makes them visible. They are incredibly creepy looking.

I actually just walked into it like an idiot to see what would happen
I'm sure most of us did. If not, then that's what the loot is there for - to
distract us while we get grabbed lol.
Watched it happen to a few streamers last night.

Noob question: how do I use my weapon I have in my quick use slot in the top left? I equipped molotov bit don't know how to throw out other than manually from the menu and there's no way that's the only way.

This game is easily as hard as any of the Souls games. Regular enemies seem to do more damage on average than past games and potions are not as plentiful because they don't get restocked at the lantern.

If the game was any harder, I probably would have snapped my controller in half by now.

Square button, and to switch equipped items that you have equipped like pebbles and blood dew press down on the d-pad.
