Noob question: How do you force a save/autosave? If I walk back to a lamp I don't see the autosave indicator appear

Also, the last game I played with loot was Diablo 3 which provided a really easy way to tell whether or not the loot I'm wearing is better or worse than the loot I'm looking at buying in a shop. Is there a way to have this same behavior in Bloodborne? I noticed the behavior once I had bought something and went into my inventory to equip it, but couldn't figure out how to do a comparison without actually buying

It opens up a new area near the cathedral.

Did you play DS1? If so, it's like the Crest of Artorias. It's an expensive key (at this point in the game), but it makes it getting to the next area very easy.

You can bypass needing the key by going through a different area and opening a short cut, but it's a lot more dangerous.

Wow, really? How else are you supposed to get in that area? The game keeps surprising me.

Not needed, but more convenient.

Yeah I played DS1, can't remember if I bought the crest

thx

I've sent to other people to the cathedral, they got there instantly. The girl not getting there might mean she my game got glitched or something happened to her. I would give her the brooch.

So far, besides the girl, I sent the old lady there (from the house near the dog cages). And I also sent the prostitute there, you can find her in the cathedral ward.

I don't recommend sending them to the clinic:
bad things are going on there...

Never trust a soul's character that ends their dialogue with a weird laugh. EVER.

I'm still before the first boss, just exploring (and dying). I'm not sure if I'm skipping the boss by taking alternate routes?
Going through the sewers with rats/dogmen

Also, one alternate route
past the laughing house and down past cages of dogs
that eventually led me to an NPC
(hooded woman who talked about me being a hunter as she just destroyed me)
. Is it possible to kill that NPC early on?

Yes! I knew it. Definitely got that vibe when she told me to send humans and they would be safe. Felt like this was the NPC turn for this game. I still will send some people there though, there might be some benefit or additional quest later, like in Dark Souls...?

Yeah, this.

Haha, I love GAF because of this kind of stuff. Feels like grade school in the SNES days where we drew maps and shit for our friends.

Well that makes sense because if you play this game with the Cane it's like the modern evolution of Castlevania III.

(perfect map!)

So I take it not many here have gotten past the Healing Church Workshop tower yet? Just trying to see if there's a path besides dropping down into it. It feels like the first poorly-designed part so far.

pretty sure that's optional. you can buy an item to open the gates that leads to the boss.

The game is always online and auto saves every 10 seconds or something crazy. Don't worry about saves, I had it once where I turned off my PS4 right when I died and the next time I resumed the game it was at the YOU DIED screen.

I don't know about the second point you asked.

YoshiChan, I think this would be a perfect PSN avatar for you :D

If you go right from the cathedral, you go up an elevator to a tower. If you go down the tower (lots of dropping onto platforms here), you'll get to a small area. Explore this area and at the end you'll find an elevator which leads to the same area as what the key opens up.

The best part of these games is how much there is to discover. I only found out all this last night after going back much later in the game :)

This game is the graphical opposite of Driveclub. BB looks awful in screen caps/vids and looks way better in person, whereas Driveclub looks incredible on the internet but underwhelming in person.

Can't wait to get back into it tonight. I was playing too conservative at first and not taking advantage of some of the quick combo strikes you can do and the benefit of getting the health regen. On my last death of the night, I was like, fuck this I want to make some progress! So I said to hell with echos, and just went super aggressive and was able to clear mobs I couldn't prior as well as realize you can run past areas if need be.

That would be my noob pro tip; after buying all the new armor you can at the beginning, stop worrying about echos and go ape shit for a few runs to feel out how aggressive you can be. It is so easy to get intimidated and into an over-conservative rut.

Played 3 rounds of chalice dungeon, seems like a great feature that will swallow a lot of my time. Couldn't mange to summon anyone though, is the online working ok?

Also went back killing that turret gun motherfucker, no cheese fair and square!

So I played for about 4 hours last night.

Some history, I played DS when it came out, probably got about a 3rd of the way in before quitting from frustration. Played Dark Souls but never got far and found it cumbersome. But this game.....this game is great in m eyes, I am in love. So much in love that I repeated the same area multiple times till I finally killed a ogre, then I finally killed some beasts. It felt rewarding, like I beat a game in it's own....then I got face punched by the Cleric in a few seconds. All the while with a smile on my face.

I might suck at this game right now, but I am getting better. I was so paranoid of fighting even a lowly human wandering around at first, now I walk over their corpses while I wipe the blood off my cleaver. Hopefully, with any luck I will feel the same way with the Cleric, after I die many times learning his little strategy.

Damn I am glad I bought this game.

You pretty much nailed the exact feeling I had

Don't forget to use spoilers for later NPC (names) and boss characters. And tag your spoilers. Just spoilering everything is no use because we don't know if it's an endgame spoiler or just a beginner question.

The
Forgotten Forest
is a bad place. I got amazingly turned around in there. There's no way I found everything and I'm not looking forward to going back in there to find it all.

*Mid-game spoilers?*
The snake forms of the boss trio was a pain in the butt. Especially the one who lobs the 3 fireballs in the arc in the second phase. I took that jerk down first and then it was easy for the other two.

Clinic:
Only thing I can tell you is that I've been inside the clinic (you can get there via the Forbidden Woods), and it's not pretty. Didn't send people over there though, so I don't know if something happens to them. They seem safe at the cathedral though.

Game is always saving. Don't worry about trying to force one (you can't).

As for the equipment question. Open up your inventory screen and go to an item you have equipped. If you hover over another item, certain numbers will be in blue or red. Red means the stat will be lowered and blue, the stat raised. You can press (square I think?) to get more details about the equipment (such as durability, defense against certain types of damage, and so on).

Literally 30 seconds after writing the last post it didn't only summon a player, it summoned two lol. Well, now I know two new things about summoning - it's gonna keep summoning no matter where you go (well, the bell had a small cross on it when I was in an elevator), but apparently only in the area where you started summoning (I was a minute away from the fog door, summoned appeared there) and ringing the bell once (and using one insight) will summon two people.

How/where the fuck do I summon the NPC? I want to try it but have no idea where they are or if they are active to be summoned. Help. yes I know about the bell.

Oh, right! I think that door only opens when the world gets darker, it's closed at first. About that area, did you open up the door midway through the shaft you have to fall through? Some neat stuff there.

Just unlocked my first shortcut after spending hours in that horrible (in a good way) first area. So satisfying. <3

Also got that cool ass hunter outfit.

Seven bosses in now after 18-20 hours (coop, so clearing each area twice but it's easier in general). To update my impression of the overall game, Bloodborne gets action, exploration and atmosphere all very, very right. The RPG components are a bit lacking compared to the Souls games, especially coming off of 2 that was incredibly solid in that regard. I kind of feel like it is completely opposite to Dark Souls 2 in focus, so people who didn't like that game might love this one. I think they're both flawed but incredible games.

My favorite areas so far are
the hidden village and the nightmare world. I haven't explored much of the former (boss too scary ;_;) but they both inspired a wonderful sense of dread when you enter them. Plus the boss of the Nightmare is just too cool.

My least favorite area was the
Forbidden Woods
because
it was just too damn big! Frequently lost, I feel like it could have used some more unique landmarks to help determine where you were. It's the one place where I wasn't even sure how to get back to shortcuts after unlocking them!

For saving people, me and my coop partner are taking opposite approaches. Should be neat to see the turnouts.

Edit: Oh and I was invaded for the first time. I love the invasion mechanic with the
bell chiming ladies
. I managed to win, so that's something! Fights seem like they will last longer with 20 heals and the potential for the host to get more from monsters. The actual combat was fun, pretty much akin to fighting NPC hunters!
