Honest critiques about 10-15 hours in:

-Certain areas in the game are damn dark. I've got brightness cranked up both in-game and on my TV, with my torch out, and I can't see shit in some places. It seems like most of the later areas I've been to don't have this problem. I understand mood/atmosphere (like Tomb of the Giants in DS) but it's a bit much for me.

This is one of the best things about it. You need to use a torch or the belt mounted light. (Or both.) I have my TV set so that when it is dark it is extremely dark and it feels like how it is meant to be played.

Dark Souls 2 is much much better if you set your TV as dark as possible, but the torch mechanics in Bloodborne outclass Dark 2 in all ways.

So I'm able to fortify my axe, should I do it? Only adds +9 attack and blunt (not sure what that is). Still learning the ropes.

When you upgrade your weapon, sometimes the stat scaling increases (from D->C->B->A->S). The higher the scaling, the more beneficial having a lot of that stat will be (More strength gives you more bonus damage).

My Threaded Cane started with a C scaling in Skill, at +2 it has a B scaling now. So my Skill stat adds more bonus damage.

I've been reading the thread from the beginning and this is still not clear to me. How do I drop my summoning soap to help people in this game? The bell that you get for beating the first boss is to summon people to help you, right? I want to help others.

First time fighting the Blood Starved Beast and my character got stuck in a pillar after dodging and then I died. Not sure what even happened there.

Came back and destroyed it though.

Man I hope you could see the boss fog gates -before- entering the area. I've lost 7K of blood echoes because I didn't realize there was going to be a boss fight.

Are the Chalice dungeons random or something? What do you get when you finish a dungeon?

So far I put down 2 bosses in the dungeon, but it seems like it'll go on for quite a while lol

They are random when you are online i think most of them at the beginning have
three layers each with a boss. At the last one you get a higher tier of the chalice which is harder and gets certain modifiers. They have unique bosses and special loot as payoffs in the latter stages. I have yet to see the full extent of these but they made them much more difficult than the main game bosses
.

Ok set my network to worldwide and added the gaf passcode.

Any GAFfers out there offering help in Old Yharnam, I'm by the boss door!

To get the resonant bell you need to have 10 insight and find the messenger merchant in Hunter's Dream just outside the house, they sell it for 1 insight.

For this, get the torch or lantern. They don't run out and help a ton for visibilty.

I think its too difficult to spot where and when the window should be. I have seen people just spam bullets and it hits, just because the enemy started swinging.

It is enormous for some enemies. I've parried one of the slab-handed big guys early on when I didn't even see him in the middle of an attack animation. Gun went off by accident and he went down and I just thought, Well, don't mind if I do!

Its pretty generous. I dont mind much because the game is plenty challenging but man some enemies cant take it nearly as well as they dish it out

That mother fucker with a shield in the first area. Took me five minutes to punch his ass to death because I didn't have pistol ammo.

Just attack him twice. He will drop that shield and you can attack him.

And, apparently, will stop dropping items after a while. So instead of going away it becomes harder because farming makes less sense.

That is not true. Drop rate is the same. If you get more Arcane stats your discovery skill will go up and you will get even more and rarer items. Some items always drop.

E.g. Yharnam first lantern, go to the left, into the house and kill the old geezer - he always drops 4 QS Bullets. The beasts on the bridge always drop 3 vials both

Like EviLore, I have yet to see any point in stat builds besides adequate Strength/Skill to meet weapon requirements, and then pump VIT and Stamina. I can't help but think that these changes are going to seriously hamper replayability.

What about arcane or bloodtinge? Some items that sounds like they could be fun in PvP require rather high arcane, and standard stuff like molotovs scale with it.

So i've reached a impasse...

I have no idea where to go next, i have searched all the areas ive been to for a door or something or new passage somewhere with no luck. If someone could point me in the right direction without spoiling too much id appreciate it. So far ive killed....

Father Gascoigne
Vicar Amelia
Cleric Beast
Blood-starved Beast
The Witch of Hemwick
Darkbeast Paarl

Played for about four hours, assuming at some point I'll be able to spend souls somehow to level up? Been running around opening up gates and dying, I'm in some sort of sewer section now.

I think I got burried lol. What's a key overall stat to work on? I was gonna go Endurance but I dunno if that's as important now.

Fighting the third boss
Blood Craved Beast
with only 6 potions and 4 bullets has mentally and physically drained me.

It felt like beating Artorias/Darklurker all over again.

I don't know which area
Darkbeast Paarl
is boss of, but have you been to the
Nightmare or Forbidden forest?

So I'm at a bit of a barrier in the
Cathedral Ward.
I take it I have to go through
Old Yharnam
since one gate requires a key I don't have and the one gate at the top of the stairs requires a device that I don't think is on the starting side of
Cathedral Ward
?

Really? The few times I attacked him in succession from the front (against his shield) did nothing and he never dropped it.

He does it always for me. What enemy do you exactly mean? That guy with the wooden shield arent you? Just attack him two times and he is dead. First time he will drop the shield and second time will do full dmg.

So I'm at a bit of a barrier in the
Cathedral Ward.

Buy the key for 10.000 blood in the hub from the merchant. This is the main game way - blood beast is optional.

Am I missing something? In my dream world, I chose the pistol as my weapon. But weapon is scarce and quickly depleted. So I've been punching my way through the first area. Is there not a cleaver somewhere or something I can use in my right hand? I think I missed something.

Done with the game until the storage bug is fixed. Character I want to play is stuck with disappearing vials and it's killing my desire to play. Sucks, but at least Pillars is coming out this week.

The Cathedral Boss is a great way to help people and gain insight. If you have a strong weapon like the Hunter Axe or Holy Blade you can do their charge attacks to stun it. Very easy to stunlock it.

In the area with the two giants roaming at the Catherdral, after you open the door with an item that costs 10k echoes. Go left. One of the giants should be immobile blocking another path. Go down that path until you reach a door. Talk to the guy behind the door and give him the password you should have after beating Vicar. Boom. New area!

Should of been another weapon pick up next to it.

Can't beat the first boss, countless tries. Its getting demoralizing, what could I be doing wrong? Shooting it does nothing. I fear this game is too souls for me..

On the stairs where you picked up your gun, there is another spot to pick up your main weapon before that. Are you sure you just forgot to equip it?

Yesterday I bashed my head against the wall for HOURS at (third boss) B
lood Starved Beast.
I was damn sick of farming for antidotes and vials, and should have stopped playing. But I had to get it, i'd come so close! Then it happened. I beat it pretty much flawlessly and didn't use a vial or really need the antidote.

I wound up not using gun parry on this fight. I would invariably do it at the wrong time and it leaves you vulnerable to his OHKO bite. Also, I felt like I was doing more damage the way I did it; dash evade when his attack starts, and smash him with running/dashing R1s while his attack animation played out.

Cleric took me several tries, Father G down in one but this was the first boss to give me such an insane amount of trouble. And based on the reward I got
it seems like it was optional

Onto the next boss, who I fought once - that is a damn cool looking and sounding boss. I love the enemies in this area too.

So I can technically "beat" the game right now. My thoughts on the difficulty in MSPaint chart form.

You should do a chart for chalice too.

You had to choose which weapon you want in the beginning from the messengers on the stairs. You can choose one right and one left from two different messengers on the stairs leading up to the house. You have to equip both on the right hands.

Yes, the weapon pickup was on the stairs together with the gun pickup.

No it's useless - like every pistol. Just get that one item to boost pistol dmg and you won't even need anything else. You don't kill anything (except the canon) with the pistol.

Are you saying useless in that they do low damage or useless in that there are better firearms for counterattacks? I'm curious if there's something faster or with a better 'parry window'. As it is right now I don't have much use for the pistol's longer range than the blunderbuss, because it's not like enemies even attack before they are in close range.

Now if there was a gun with tiny range that was as fast and responsive as a demon's/dark souls parry animation then I'd be all over that.

HOLY SHIT STUMBLED ON A SECRET HIGH LEVEL AREA!!!

The area where you find that Kirkwood Hammer wielding NPC (and entrance to get into Old Yarnham), on the right corner outside of the building there's a Grim Reaper looking dude who if he kills you transports to his area with a new cutscene! There is also a boss there the Dark Beast plus some nice loot. Warning its a very high level area! There's a lamp there as well so you can attempt to clear the area but the Grim Reapers and the giant pig hit for a fuck ton!
