Bloodborne Load Times are Getting Patched. Along with other performance optimisations

Is this me or is the framerate going down in
old yharnam, on the little bridge there it's always has like 1ms lag, I had this in DA:I too in one certain part.

I killed two bosses, shouldn't be too spoilery.

Yeah, I noticed a brief hitch there too. Probably just has to do with the area loading in.

I saw a test of it back when the PS4 had just launched that confirmed this. The SSD was faster, but only minimally so over the hybrid and not enough to justify the cost difference for storage. Again though, that was a while ago.

This is what I found a few minutes ago. However it's fairly outdated at this point.

I can easily see a 7200rpm drive being an upgrade over the PS4's slow 5400rpm drive, regardless of SSD.

My experience with hybrids hasn't been great. I can see a quality hybrid with a significant SSD space, say 100+gb, being another small bump in performance.

I was thinking of picking this up tomorrow for the weekend but the technical issues kinda have me concerned. Here's hoping that it'll be patched today or tomorrow. :P

No seriously, the loadtimes are kinda bullshit/ridiculous...

I'm thinking i'm going to just hold off from playing this until it's patched. Plenty of other stuff I need to finish anyway...

Yep, that hiccup is there for me every time. I've tested this game on a 7200rpm drive, Hybrid drive and an SSD - loading times are improved on those compared to the PS4 stock drive, but that hiccup doesn't go away in any case.

DF updated their article:

While for SSD's the speed is limited by Sata 2. It's still capable of delivering 2-3 times the read write speed a good 7200 RPM HDD will get you. But that's theoretical. Looks like load times, are anywhere from 4-8 seconds faster for SSD vs 7200.

Jesus.... talk about Stockholm syndrome.

Are you kidding me? All I'm doing is trying to do is make the best of the situation rather than bitch and complain about what isn't.

40 second load times and studdering frame rates are nothing if you played anything around the PS1 era. Is it optimal? Sure as hell isn't. Is it going to stop me from playing an otherwise badass game? No.

I wouldn't be too worried. Just browse your phone for a few seconds while it loads.

Then again it never hurts to wait and see.

Holy shit those loading times are horrendous. It just kind of really hit me now. I mean dying and then just waiting for close to a minute to get to play again? I wonder why the game has so much trouble with loading. Yes the new games are much larger and stream more data but I do not remember playing any other games on current-gen that had loading times this big.

This game is so good I don't even mind the loading! If it gets patched that would be awesome too, though, haha.

Also, wasn't there going to be an update to change the loading screen to something more interesting like an item description or character artwork? Am I crazy or am I making this up? I'd like that because having a huge BLOODBORNE logo glaring at me reminding me that I'm playing a game kinda breaks the immersion...

Man, just hearing about the load times makes me not want to start the game yet. In a game where you're going to be dying a lot, load times are crucial.

IMO the load times are not that bad at all.

Long loading times give you more time to calm down... <.<
Yeah, they honestly don't feel long at all. I take a breath, collect myself... take a drink or whatever and start up again. I'm a patient person though so take that fwiw.

I played the game for about 30 mins total. The framerate has more slowdowns than Seattle traffic. It's like the game wasn't even optimized. The load times don't bother me much. (Yet)

Haven't even noticed the load times. It's a good opportunity to check up on whatever time wasting iOS or Android game you are currently playing, or answer texts, whatever. Sure, it'd be great if they were shorter, but it's not really ruining the game for me.

the loading is really long, really annoying in a game that you (I) die so often in... wonder how much they can really improve it... does look like a SSD would help quite a bit though!

If you want to buy the game but these issues are making you hesitate I would say just get it. Yes, the load times are relatively long compared to most games, but they're never intolerable.

Same. I just check GAF on my phone, grab a drink, or just use it for a breather.

Same, I honestly don't get the complaints at all. I'd love to see them replace the "Bloodborne" screen with artwork like in previous titles though.

Dude were you streaming Tuesday night? Pretty sure I watched you play.

Old Yharnam seems to be Blighttown in my experience :P (performance-wise)

Oh it's nowhere near as bad.

I haven't had a single instance where I felt the game controlled substantially worse due to the performance. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's leaps and bounds above what any of the previous games offered in terms of consistency and stability.

Those load times though... Yeah. They need to cut them down by at least 30% for them to be OK. I mean, why does it take 45 seconds for me to load even if I die like a few meters from the bonfire? Clearly there's an issue with the streaming tech if that happens.

Exact same here. I just usually look at the Bloodborne OT or something while the game is loading so I dint really rven notice that much.

I agree, I take a deep breath, drink a drink, check my phone for a few seconds, and I'm ready to press on again. Not defending the load times, I just don't find them as frustrating as I thought they'd be when I first heard about them.

Looks like I'm going be getting a 1TB SSHD, ordering one now, been meaning to upgrade my drive anyways, and that ps4 update's about to come out that'll let us backup data to external. Perfect timing.

Not being able to do anything at the lanterns like repairing weapons and leveling up while forcing you into the Hunter's Dream to access any of that stuff makes the loading problems even worse. I'm not sure why they designed it that way. It really slows things down.

Anyone try this?

"Important: If you boot your PS4 in Safe Mode and choose to Rebuild Database, your load times may significantly decrease. Mine went from 30-40 seconds, to 12-20 seconds. Also, it says it 'may take a couple of hours' to rebuild it, but it only took 3 minutes for me."

Long loading times give you more time to calm down... <.<
Thats honestly very true.

The lack of information on the screen also makes you focus solely on your next strategy, instead of being distracted by item descriptions.

That start screen has to be improved though

But going to HD is always so fast...

And I like the feeling of having to return to a safe haven like the Nexus to do those things.

LOL, nice name haha

I wonder how much time they can save in loading objects? If certain things have to be moved in and out of memory then they have to be moved in and out of memory.

And then you spend another 45 seconds or so having to back to the main world. Completely unnecessary. They can have the Nexus but to deny any functionality to the lanterns seems completely backwards to me. You can't even designate a new one to spawn from unless you go back to the Dream. It's just silly design, especially when you have such long loads.

Wow.

My Seagate SSHD was a great choice, I wonder if that's why I'm not as bothered by load times as some other people here

Same here I've got that drive and haven't been overly bothered by the load times.

In some cases its over 10 seconds faster than the stock drive which is very impressive.

I agree about the lanterns offering no functions. It seems Miyazaki was going hardcore for replicating the feeling of Demon's Souls. But various quality of life improvements from the Dark Souls games are too much to give up.

While I think the game is great overall, if they wanted to bring back the Nexus they should have made it meaningful by having the NPCs show up there as you engage their questlines.

firs time ever playing this series, great game but the frame rate is awful and the load times are annoying.
I can live with long load times but the dreadful frame rate ruins the game almost, especially given that it's not the prettiest out there.
I'm a little baffled why evil within got torn apart for this yet blood borne seems to have escaped any frame rate issues with reviewers.
