So uh, what's the point of chalice dungeons? Just did the one you get access to by beating BSB. 3 layers, 3 bosses, no loot, 10k souls :|

Doesn't seem worth it at all unless you just want to try out the bosses

So what's the tactic at the guy with the Gatling gun shooting at you from the tower? I drop down there are ton of birds on one side and hunter guy on the other all while getting shot at
Theres an alternate and easier route to reach him, in the area where he starts to shoot you, dont go down the ladder but go inside the building down on you are, and theres a way on the wall. Easy to miss.

Wow, this game really wants me to try beat the third boss on my own, finding players in Old Yharnam is basically impossible right now.

Third boss isn't bad. Got him on the first try by spamming molotovs and using firepaper, only had to use 1 antidote. He telegraphs his attacks like crazy and he's really weak to fire.

A million times, yes.

It has a world that makes sense. Yarnham is a single city separated into districts and outlying areas. As far as I know you won't step off a lift in Central Yarnham and end up inside a volcano.

It has lore that actually makes you question what you're seeing, and NPCs that smartly expand on the lore in trickled doses. The game starts with a mystery, as they all do, and even as the mystery grows your sense of purpose deepens. Quite the opposite of DSII, where you just forget what you were supposed to be doing (canonically, that's what everyone does in Drangleic) and mindlessly kill bosses until you run out.

The combat is the bleeding edge of balance. I've only had one cheap death so far and it was because of an environment glitch and had nothing to do with invisible enemy range or poor encounter design.

Best of all, no soul memory! So die all you like, PVP/co-op all you like, spend your blood echos how you like, we're finally free of the worst design flaw in the series' history.

Eh, I don't know what special "touch" people are talking about but I thought DSII was pretty great overall. I prefer it to Demon Souls. Not sure where Bloodborne will rank...

Higher chalice tiers have exclusive bosses and loots, for what I did read.

Dark Souls II indeed is awesome. Although I think I'll probably like BB more. It may be the hype though.

I've heard you can find weapons and armour in them but I've yet to do so. Seeing some cool bosses though
Then might I suggest making physical notes?
haha good idea

It's too bad that the diversity isn't as plentiful in this game, as it could have made chalice/exploration more rewarding.

Im thinking chalice runs are just a way to have some fun.

I'm disappointed to hear people say they dont use their gun that much, as it seems this also kills the fun in getting new firearms.

So I'm in need of guidance when it comes to "ascending the cathedral".

How in the world do you unlock the door at the top of the Healing Church Workshop? I've already defeated Blood Starved Beast and the Vicar but they didn't drop keys. /: The only two paths I have untouched (that I've noticed) branch off from the entrance to the Vicar. One way leads to a cavern/forested area and the other towards a house that notes warn me about a hunter. Do either of these paths net my the key I need?

Ok, maybe
Father G
isn't quite as easy as I thought. I used the
music box
, but it didn't seem to work more than once. Wasted like 8 coctails on this attempt too, and now I'm broke. :(

I miss mah shields :d

Just nailed Gascoigne in about 90 seconds and didn't get hit once.

As soon as the fight starts immediately go right where there is a small tree surrounded by some gravestones. Lock on and transform weapon to its large form (I'm rocking the Axe) then just make sure he's always on the opposite side and do a charge attack to smash him. Rinse and repeat even when he's at his second stage. Although this time only do the charged attack after he's finished the animation for his.

When he transforms to the 3rd part keep behind the same spot, lock on and spam molotovs at him. He does break the gravestones but by the time he's done that you should only need one more hit. Took me 3 molotovs.

From the cathedral where the vicar fight is, go down the stairs, out the gate you had to open to the cemetary like place with the 2 huge dudes, toward the back there should be an alley you can go down and will eventually lead there. You know it's the right one if you get ambushed by a dude with a octopus head.

Surprised it took this long to get to OT2.If i'm not mistaken Dark Souls 1 OT2 took much less.

Anyway i only hope to have the game before we reach OT3. :/

So I killed the hunter with the Gatling gun (well at one point I did a visceral attack and he flew off the back of the tower and died), but his loot is stuck above the ground and I can't get it. Does he respawn? I quit after that last night and haven't went back

Thoughts:

Really growing to dislike the Vials since most of the time I'm doing bosses with very few or no vials at all since I can blow through all the 20 in one try depending on the boss and then I'm stuck either farming the Vials or just doing it without. I like hammering bosses a lot so those farming sessions really slow down the boss killing if they are tough enough to really require some healing.

I also find it a bit annoying when summoning help that it keeps just going and you usually end up with 2 helpers and that makes the bosses a bit too easy. I find that 2 players is really the sweet spot for this games' bosses to keep them challenging. Is there a way to turn off the player search after you get one guy to help?

I've now done one chalice dungeon and working on another one and so far it seems like it's the one feature I've been really craving for in Souls and that's pretty much endless PvE content. I have 400 hours played in DS2 and that's mostly PvP but for this game it seems most of my playtime will be PvE.

Uploaded some boss kills:

This isn't even needed but it's cute as heck.

Wellll I mean, back then you could make the OT well before launch, and we also lost a few thousand posts due to the two OTs that were wiped, so it makes sense why this one is behind. I think the thread is moving faster overall.

Go to HD and back to his spot. Its reset.

Go back to the tower and it should be there.

The key comes from a area later in the game and access to that comes later. Now that you beat the Vicar you need to go to the
forest
You know the password to the door now that you touched the skull.

Has anyone figured out how to open the door
next to the treasure chest in the cathedral ward? The one that is after you beat the ball + chain giant.

Going to post this again:

Did I screw up picking the Cane? I'm well on my way to the fourth boss but I feel so neutered in comparison to people using the compact-ax-blade-thing in any video I see. I'm fairly certain it's not my strength either, will I be able to buy/find one? Or am I better off spending 20,000 souls on the Sword?

The Cane is deadly if you have a high "Skill" stat as it scales on a B scale with it. Later on, the whip component of it, will be a godsend. I personally love it, but then again it fits my playstyle perfectly.

Have I missed an area somewhere?

I've beaten:
Cleric Beast
Father G
Hem...something Witches
Vicar Amelia
Bloodstarved Beast

After Bloodstarved, I met some new enemy that absolutely trashed me, and then I woke up in a cell. That area is friggin' hard, and I really don't feel like progressing there yet.
Have I missed something, or am I supposed to be there? :(
