Bloodborne is pretty damn great. It's basically the first game where I continually get startled by enemies jumping out at me, but yet still feel compelled to continue through that stress, because the combat is so fun, and the amazing feeling of discovery and victory is unmatched.
I also gotta give a shout out to Rogue Legacy. I think that game prepared me for this, true shit. I found my self reminiscing about that game while getting my ass handed to me by the enemies my first couple of nights. The way I would continually die before I even reached the boss, but then you see your gradual improvement. Then you reach the boss, and get beat so badly, and then continue to keep dying and dying and dying.
So hears my story on how this game just clicked with me last night. First night I only played a couple hours in the first part, made it up to the 2 mini wolves, got owned, and stopped. Second night I was HYPED. I thought I'd run in there, and take down that cleric beast, no prob. Unfortunately I played for about 3 hours and only reached him once. I didn't totally explore, so the only route I was taking was to run through the mob, and up the stairs. Those 2 wolves completely crushed me. I had no clue what I was doing wrong. I was parrying them, but when they both attacked at the same time, I just got clueless.
Last night that all changed. I started off just strictly exploring instead of going for the beast. I opened up the path that led immediately back to the lamp (was so happy and relieved when this happened), and basically just farmed for levels, and weapon ups. I went back to the 2 wolves, learned how to forward and circle strafe around them, and time my attacks, and I began to take care of them easily. I took out the cleric beast on my 2nd try, and then went straight for Father G, and beat him on my 2nd try as well.
I read in the first OT, that the long load screens with just the Bloodborne sign give you incentive to really contemplate your style, and movements while in combat. I'm not excusing those load times, but I found this absolutely true, for me. I'm really feelin this game.
