I've never been one to claim something is overpowered, but goddamn the cane whip is nice. Tons of range, very respectable damage, can hit multiple targets at once, and causes staggering.

I wonder their reasoning for taking away an estus flask type of healing system. Maybe there's a way later in to replenish without draining vials, but grinding specifically to get more vials after running out feels weird right now. And the fact that it seems like it will hurt the chances of people wanting to help you in co-op makes it seem like a weird move. I guess there can be a Sunbro type of contingent still, but random people will probably be disuaded from ringing a small bell because of the possible resource drain. I mean, the reason the Sunbros even exist is probably because the estus flask system encouraged it.

Maybe I'm too shortsighted to see the benefit of the vial system, though. Do you eventually get a magic type of heal?

After tearing through Old Yarnham with brutal finesse I got waaaaaaay too confident in my first encounter against BSB. Didn't change my arnor, didn't equip Molotovs or antidotes, I didn't even bothering spending the 12k in echoes I had on me first. Got him down to less then 50% health easily, mostly with viceral attacks....then everything changed. Mauled, poison, mauled again. Blood vial. Blood vial. Slashedx3. Blood vial. Dies from poison while fumbling through the inventory for antidotes.

Consider me humbled. Such hubris shan't be repeated.
At least you didn't get OHKOed in it's second form. Now that's a real kick in the nards

Just popping in to avoid spoilers.

Just want to say I've played a few hours since the release this morning and it's fantastic. The atmosphere, enemy variety, streamlined weapons, environments, branching pathways - i have nothing but praise apart from the camera. Framerate is negotiable.

Beat cleric beast first time and but took about 5 goes to beat
Gascgoine
.

I feel like I must be missing something with parry and the gun. Can someone link me a good video or something? It just never seems to go right for me.

cant buy that
electric mace
after killing the hunter... well thats disapointing :/

I have the
cleaver

Im also
that class with all balanced stats but want to switch to veteran

Thx!

I didnt want to go to deep into the sewer yet, shit looked scary

The
axe
is pretty OP at the start of the game due to the range. So if you're having issues, it might be worth a restart.

If you go military vet, you will have the lowest arcane stat...let's just say I wouldn't rule out arcane. ;)

So...does anyone else find Old Yharnam to be particularly terrifying once you get past the gunner?

I'm only a little bit past him but the place isn't so bad. The enemies are really easy since I've been in other areas before coming here.
I'm not liking the look of that thing hanging from the ceiling though.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I
'killed' the guy that needed help in the Forest. I figured he was just a Yurt, but lo and behold, I was also greeted with a terrifying beast mode. Let's just say that he does not like poison blades.
This game is full of so many surprises.

I don't think I understand the Bold Hunter's Mark item, are you suppose to use it if you are about to die?

If that's the case I never have enough time to use it.

Is elemental damage worth it for blood gem imprints? If I go fire with Ludwigs it'll be doing ~100 less damage than if I went physical

3rd boss isn't BSB or VA, it's WoH, for sure. No reason not to go straight there–run up is easy, fight is easy, and you get a big reward for it.

Could someone tell me the name of the last boss? Don't wanna be forced into NG+ before I'm done with the initial playthrough

Going to
Cainhurst
Castle on a
carriage
is cool :D

Yeah there a certain style to the cutscenes that make them really cool despite being very minimalistic and simple.

I killed father first try. But it sure was a hectic, tense battle. Even got a few gun parries on him, including one for the killing blow while my health was near the end with no vials.

This game is great.p

I'm playing this while reading almost no guides or forums so forgive my terminology.

Any tips on the Vicar? I've solo'd the first three bosses but can't figure out the trick for this one.

Beasts are weak to
fire
.

Also
stay behind or the side of her and attack that gimpy left arm she has. It will make her crumple and you can do a visceral attack on her.

Honestly, the hardest thing about this fight is the effing camera.
Get a hair cut lady! It's blocking my views of your very telegraphed attacks!

I'll be honest in saying that while I like this game a lot I think it may end up being my least favorite of the Souls series. I actually liked the pacing of sword and board, so to have that removed as a play style is disappointing. I also prefer the design around flasks over an expendable item.

It's a mix between the hardest parts of the two previous systems. A cap on what you can carry so you can't just over stock, and them not being unlimited in supply so you don't get over reliant on them.

Break her arms if you are having trouble with her healing. Doing so will stun her anyway so it is what you should be aiming for.

I just love the art direction. Soo glad From stuck it out with horror over pure fantasy. You can really see that DS2 was the "B team" with level design.

For anyone having trouble with the sack monsters, Try the Axe 2H Power attack. It does the Double Spin that knocks them down every time, so if you stand far away when they rush you and time it right, you can knock them down and back up again in time

Where is the gate for the 10k key?

Go left from Cathedral Ward lantern, down stairs into a little courtyard with 2 gravekeeper guys or whatever they're called, go right past a big guy (you can lock him behind a gate), up the stairs and it's at the top.

any tips for that hunter with the
spear gun
right after the one with the
electric mace
? hes so fucking annoying

What area is that boss in?

I snuck up behind him by falling down from the house, backstabbed, and then ran away. (Rinse and repeat.) He would have been impossible for me otherwise.

Yeah, the level design is godlike. Even though I miss a bunch of the extra systems and what not from the souls games the level design makes up for it.

I cooped over and over to build up the money for it. If you die as a cooperator, you get sent back to the last lantern, but don't lose any echos.

Woah I didn't realise you kept your echoes. Thanks that's awesome

What am I supposed to with the
Red Jeweled Brooch
? Anyone know?

If that's the case I never have enough time to use it.

It's the homeward bone of this game.

It just lets you go back to the dream without losing your souls.

Ie, if you get stuck or engage a boss fight when you a billion souls and aren't ready to fight them. etc

Instead of going into grand cathedral, go round to the left, follow the path through woods and it takes you to her area.

I killed the large beast on the bridge with the large arm, then the guy who uses weapons similar to yours in the graveyard. I assume I'm skipping all over the place.

I fought VA first but just beat WoH, where do I go to be able to activate these runes I'm accumulating? Also where do I go next lol I'm lost

God it feels so good being 30 hours into this game and knowing I still have tons of the single player left plus I've barely scratched the surface with chalice dungeons. Still so much to explore.

What a game

For anyone who's having trouble with any part of the game, use the Axe 2H power Attack because it's INSANELY OP. I keep the axe in the off hand of my dex build for that move exclusively.

It's basically Cleric Beast on steroids. Be careful with the long straight range attack and when she goes crazy at 25% health

Runes are used on the big table in the house of the Dream.

Ugh, that machine gunner. I can make it through the rest of the level with no issues, I stomp all over the wolves and the ones in "sheeps clothing" but everytime I get out in the open he drains my life. I think I've probably lost like 16k souls over time to this fucker.

Fought a guy next to the Cathedral Ward lamp after back tracking from BSB. He two hit me to death. I was like whatever, I'm right next to the lamp. But no, cut scene and I wake up in a jail cell and I have no clue what to do now. Place is filled with things that kill me fast.

Woo I got past the werewolves and found a shortcut, meanong I can bypass them now, fuck em.

And this is kust the beginning, oh boy.

I'm really feeling not having a shield, got to learn attacks and timings when there might be multiple enemies.
