That's not really a fair dismissal. You can get in to 1 of the DLC after killing 2 (or even 1) boss, right?
Also, the DLC level-scaled a bit, to account for players entering them at different points. I don't know whether that will be removed in Scholar, though.
This was the same for me, I went in thinking the worst.
I've beat 7 so far, thus for fun this is my 1 to 7 ranking of difficulty (1 being hardest). I think during 2-3 I was underlevelled leading to some frustration. Held off on
Vicar because I was so frustrated, Witches were my 4th, then Vicar 5th

I try to get behind her but her sweeping attacks end up hitting me and eventually killing me before she drops below 75%

whaaaat? you're at 22 str before the first boss? the soft cap is 25. you're gonna be overlevelled as hell. that boss is made to be done without levelling at all.
Not really. Look at the ATK increase each level of STR adds when you level up. It's not much until you upgrade your weapon, assuming you are using a weapon that scales with strength. Not a big deal though and the strength investment will pay off later if you use the right weapons.

Beyond making sure she doesn't get to heal herself, the fight should go the same as Cleric Beast
Just make sure to remember that when she does her "praying smash" it does a shockwave that hits you a lot farther than her arms. Dodge that sideways

Thanks. I'll work on that. I've been trying to stay close and side dodge but one mistake and I'm done.
New to should and rpgs in general but I'm determined to get this down. The cleric beast was a breeze but this one got me.
When you first encounter the snakehead enemy inside the dark room and go out to cross a bridge and fight another one, there's an elevator off to the right. That one goes up to the room where you can unlock the door by the lantern.
The other shortcut is another elevator that leads up to that original snakehead dark room but it can be hard to give directions with how big that area is.

From what I've seen using 1H R1 attacks at her legs, arms, face will put her in a momentary stun if you get off enough hits. I ended up summoning 2 other people to get through it before seeing that though.

Combat tip:
Hit the arm she's leaning on. Generally avoid her attacks by staying behind her but you can repeatedly stun and knock her down if you hit her arm.
Can you glitch into her legs too like with cleric beast?

You eventually come to a dead end in this room where a giant hand grabs you and kills you if you don't have a Tonsil stone. If you do, he takes you to some Nightmare location, where I have not been.

So I'm fighting Vicar Amelia. I've staggered a few times using my melee weapon (Kirkhammer +4), but I'm not quite able to read exactly what opening she is giving me to stagger her. Anyone know?

After Rom:
I got grabbed by the whatthefuckevenisthat guy and teleported to a new area, but I'm now finding out that's an optional area. How do you get back to wherever the hell that was?
It's her arm that she's leaning on. Hitting that with strong damage staggers her and can give you a V. Attack opening.

It's a damage threshold thing I think
Problem is, I hate using/wasting consumable items. So whenever a parry is optimal, I decide not to do that. The nerfed backstabbing has also thrown me out of the loop.

Gehrman was the first boss that i used all my blood vials and beat him with almost 5% health on my 7-8 try.Geez...
