Why doesn't the beckoning bell work anywhere in the cathedral area?
I just need a straight up guide that tells me exactly what to do to play with friends.
Like, I started a chalice and my friend put the code in. We stood outside the front lantern with our bells but we never found each other. Does that work or was it for nothing? Is the only way to do coop with the makeshift altar?
In Dark Souls 2 you had to have similar Soul Levels and you also increased your chances with the Engraved Ring. You might be too far apart with levels and echos?
We are both level 35 and we were both in the exact same spot. We played earlier at old yharnam and found each other pretty fast, but we just can't find each other in this chalice dungeon.

Did you collect more Echo than him? That doesn't make sense if you already played with him. That's an incredibly small range. That might be different? I haven't experimented with the Chalice Dungeons. There might be some sort of detail you're missing perhaps?
I just started a new character and got the Father's little girl to go to the chapel. I find her mauled corpse in the sewer in front of the giant hog, and a little blood stained ribbon as a pick up item. Is there any possible way to get her to live?
above the Yarnham sewers supposed to be friendly? I attacked him when I first encountered him and he seems to still remember it many instances of Yarnham later. He destroyed me back then so I ran my ass off when he proved to still hold a grudge.
Update: As members of our community were so kind to point out, and as we discovered after some testing of our own, the reported "co-op glitch" originally covered in this article isn't a glitch at all; it's an intended piece of the game. That being said, there is a known progression glitch out there that is tied to the co-op/PvP aspects of the game. Light spoilers ahead.
The "glitch" that we originally reported on is - for lack of a better phrase - an unknown requirement. In order for players to summon and be summoned
in the Cathedral Ward area, they must first buy the Chief Hunter Emblem for 10,000 souls from the Bath Messengers in the Hunter's Dream area. Once acquired, players must then go to the main gate of the cathedral and open it. This will allow you to summon aid and be summoned to aid others.
With that squared away, let's talk about the known progression glitch that was recently discovered. Players who are summoned by using the Small Resonant Bell, or who invade using the Sinister Resonant Bell, within the Forbidden Woods area will find it difficult to progress later on in the game as a key item will not drop for them. Sony and From Software are aware of this issue and will be releasing a hotfix some time next week to address this. Until then, be wary of offering aid in the Forbidden Woods.
Original Article:
As if Bloodborne couldn't get any more difficult than it already is, players have been experiencing a specific glitch that is making the game even more difficult. The co-op summoning mechanic is somewhat bugged when entering battle the first boss of the game.
Much like in the Dark Souls series, players are able to summon co-op partners to their games and use their help to conquer a dungeon. This glitch, however, is preventing players from being able to do this
in one of the earliest stages of the game, making things a bit more difficult than normal. The Vicar Amelia battle within the Cathedral Ward
is currently producing this summoning glitch for one reason or another, therefore we want Dark Souls/Bloodborne beginners of to be aware of the possible spike in difficulty (without co-op partners, of course).
Even if a player obtains and uses either the Beckoning Bell, which summons a co-op player, or the Small Resonant Bell, which allows players to be summoned into co-op, both won't work properly in this particular boss fight. The Bloodborne community has reported both items being greyed out, indicating the player being offline, and an animation error occurring after attempting to use either Bell.
They aren't impossible to complete, but it's a serious glitch that Sony has yet to address as of today. There is an upcoming patch that we are aware of, so hopefully this issue is among the bugs being fixed. We've even become aware of a potential glitch that erases save data after dying within an invited co-op session. If we hear more on either of these issues, we'll let our community know.
I broke down and gave up. I couldn't stand the idea of not owning all the armor I could own so I just spent 28 insight buying out the insight shop, which knocked me back down to 13 insight. Damn. Was really looking forward to seeing what changes, if any
besides the giant fucking spider in Cathedral Ward
for someone who never played any souls games.. I feel like this is an awesome experience... I really am enjoying this game. I think I will have to pick up dark souls 2 ... just because this bloodborne is so much fun
What the hell am I suppose to do when father goes into his second form? I'm trying to use the special item to stagger him but he's too aggressive and i cant get away from him to use it. Should I just try to riposte him?

Very easy boss once you realise that dodging to the left of every attack gives you a massive advantage. Just be aggressive, get up in it's face and then dodge to it's left every time, same tactic works for every phase. Just make sure you have a good bit of range on your weapon (two hand the axe).
Is the parry system buggy? I would fire my gun right when father G is beginning his attack animation and it only works 1 out of 4 or so times. I'm not understanding how the system works or something. Can only a specific attack be parried?

Or, if you have an axe, cheese him by doing the R2 swing through a tree. Or, run up the stairs, drop down and charge up your attack so when he follows, you can hit him immediately as he lands. Repeat.

Here's what helped me: In all his three forms, you should evade towards him when he attacks. If you do it right, you will end up behind him as he attacks, giving you an opening to land a couple of hits.

Yeah. I can't really kill the bag guys so I ran past two of them to a hole. Little did I know what awaited me...
Where do I go once I am past BSB? Do I go in the gate that needs the 10k key, or the area where you have to down the large tower that unlocks after BSB? I died from a bag guy last and he sent me to prison, but maybe I need to just not die...
This is hands down the hardest fight in the game. In my opinion, harder than any bosses so far. I defeated
12
so far. After many losses, I used the Numbing Mist and this started to happen. Maybe it's an exploit that can help? Bug? I don't know but I was so happy to finally have this completed lol.
Holy shit this community moves quick there's already an infinite item dupe glitch
..I'm not posting though people can search if they really want I haven't tried

We literally just both beat Amelia, and now our beckoning bells are greyed out everywhere we go. They weren't greyed out in the chalice dungeon, but we couldn't find each other at all.
Our resonant bells aren't greyed out though.
Edit: we just ran all around central Yharnam and it never let us use our beckoning bells... This is starting to get ridiculous.
Since i didn't even know about this side quest until i read this thread
The girl gives you the music box,you kill her father (boss),he drops something, you show his loot to her and later you find her corpse in the sewers right?
