hey guys,

been thinking about getting bloodborne. My question is, is it legitimately scary? Most discussions about the game circle around gameplay. I wonder if it could be described as survival-horror? Did any of you had to stop playing, because the atmosphere was weirding you out, like me with PT?

Yes. Very weird and scary most of the time. Atmosphere, creature design, audio like crying baby, moaning women, footstep, beast roar, all those make me unble to proceed, almost.
But the game is so good, I'm at the end of the game now, feel good conquering fear.

It's not P.T., and the mechanics of the gameplay makes it not really a survival horror, but the atmosphere is really, really creepy, art and sound wise. Its not enough to make me stop playing like P.T., but enough to make me feel tense about what are those weird sounds coming from that closed doors.

That can be your second boss, try branching out a different way from Central Y bonfire

Can be,
alternatively if you get onto the great bridge (the one with two werewolves) there is another boss at the end of it. Very easy to get to if you can get to Father G.

There is a way to give you a big helping hand in the fight you're on.
FInd the house with a little girl, she gives you a music box, use it during the FG fight and he'll be stunned for a few moments, can use it to do a charge attack and follow up on him for big damage.

You could do him first but most people do cleric beast

Ok guys tranks!

so yeah,
Paarl
is kicking my ass. Was bound to happen since I 1 and 2 shot the last 3 bosses :/

Im trying to
get his legs to colapse him but he doesnt and then just does a massive AOE, his swipes have huge range
...just overall not getting the hang of the fight. At least its fast to get to him

edit: also I dont udnerstand how the guy earlier had a +10 weapon for him, since by the point in the game I havent seen any chunks at all which you need after +5 /shrug

Welp, I finished the game GAF :D Killed all optional bosses, got all hunter tools, 99% of the weapons, and of course
the best ending
.

What a crazy game. In fact, other than the technical blemishes -- long load times, some audio glitching, and the one time I got stuck in the world -- it's a pretty much perfect game. The level design is purely unreal, and manages to get better and better until the very end of the game, only marginally dipping in quality in maybe one or two places and one boss in particular I thought was more lame than usual.

Here's where I get to reveal a secret about myself: I played (and disliked) both Dark Souls 1 and Demons Souls. I didn't finish either of them.

I did, on the other hand finish and enjoy Dark Souls 2. For whatever reason, DS2 worked for me where those other games didn't, and I have no earthly idea why. Except in that game, I used coop for every single boss. And I think I hurt my experience, but it was honestly just too hard for me back then otherwise as I feel like I was learning the ropes.

But Bloodborne not only works, it exposes DS2 in my mind for being a totally inferior game. Bloodborne is the most perfect game experience I have had since Resident Evil 4. I'm astonished by how much fun I've had with it, and can't wait to -- at a slower pace -- consume the remaining content in NG+. This is the definitive reason to own a PS4, and I cannot wait for what I hope will be an inevitable announcement of Bloodborne 2. I made sure, this time, to do everything in the game solo, and I feel like a badass for it :D

A big thanks to everyone in this thread for helping for their useful hints, tips etc. I don't know if I could have finished to my satisfaction without all the awesome posts here!

DS2 very much stands on its own feet for having a working online infrastructure and the best PvP in the Souls games (Including BB). Also it is available in 60fps which automatically makes it better.

DS2 hating is getting old.

Items like Old Hunter Bone, are they consumables? As in, I use them once, I get buffed for a few minutes, and that's it?

Why is the kirkhammer so useless compared to the axe? Hitting an enemy with the hammer does less damage than a regular hit with the short version of the axe most of the time. does it ever get better than the axe if you have high strength?

DS2 hate has been old for a very long time.

Don't forget to run Chalice Dungeons if you haven't. They're really cool and there's exclusive enemies/stuff there.

Brought it up to +4 and then gave up on it. Sword is way too slow and you can't even hit-stun enemies properly with combos.

Yeah it's got better scaling than the axe. I've got both at +9 and the kirkhammer is pretty brutal but it can be a bit harder to use in hammer form. Its sword mode is super useful though.

This is my first Souls game and I find myself watching streams more than playing. The reactions to be people be startled by surprise mobs or their disgusting design is great entertainment

Heh, i went to the graveyard where G bossfight was, and there was
rogue hunter and Eileen fighting there. In confusion I landed the killing blow to her, but that rogue hunter is too hard for me.

In the end, all went well because I got her mark and now I can purchase the gear.

/off to gather XP for blades. :D

Where do you have to go after you kill
Rom and the world changes? i got kidnapped by the giant spider thingy but there was nothing to do there

The VA fight is the most dodge-dependent boss I've fought yet, so why the hell do my dodge controls cut out during it? I jammed the O button firmly and sometimes absolutely nothing happens. It's only this area and it's happened with two controllers. The fight is bullshit enough without crippled controls.

Is it more powerful than the axe at that point? I have both at the same level and invested mostly in strength, and yet the axe always does more damage despite having worse scaling

True that.

I need to finish BB for any real verdict(about 20-25h in), but so far I still prefer the Souls games. Well, fixing the fps and loading would already go a long way. All the technical issues are currently hampering my experience after coming from the super polished DS2 PC version.

huh 17 hours in, thought it was less :)

I could use some
Paarl
tips guys, because im not getting anyware :/

I main the hammer, R2 charge attack can one shot most enemy, pretty fun.

That's weird, are you sure you're just running out of stamina?

You need to land a clean hit (ie. the hammer hits the enemy completely) with the hammer to do full damage. If you don't get a clean hit (only a small part of the hammer hits the enemy) you'll do a lot less damage (I'm talking 1200 for a clean hit vs 200 damage for a partial hit for a charge attack). But yeah it's definitely more powerful, especially the charge attack since it does more damage than the axe's while still leaving the enemy open for a visceral attack.

Wait, what the hell just happened!? I was doing a simple farming run between the great bridge and father gascognes lantern and as I arrived at father gascognes place some yellow guy started wailing on me. He killed me and as I died, some other guy in black was shooting at him. WTF!?

Aside from that, I bought the key to unload the gate in cathedral ward, and linked that back to the cathedral lantern by opening the other gate. So now I have that area to explore and the downtown old yargn

I used bolt paper and whenever I dodged I would dodge towards the back of his feet, trying to stay under his belly near his hind legs, and spamming R1 attacks there. I feel like it almost stun-locked him twice. Just doesn't seem like the AI there deals well with it, so it made the fight easier. (It is scary to be up that close though and you have to hope the camera plays nice)

I've played through Demon's, Dark Souls, and most of Dark Souls 2, but I have never been more fascinated with the backstory and narrative behind these games than I currently am with Bloodborne. This game gets nuts in the back half, and I'm loving it as I inch closer to the end.

Those items are infinite use, they just require certain Arcane levels to equip and take Bullets.

I dumped 40 points into it for shits and giggles since that's the highest req on one of the items.

Boy that was pointless and a total waste of levels, I personally feel that they're all a bunch of trash.

I really, really, really, really, really wish you could respec.

the one in black
is an npc hunting rogue hunters, you can help her for a reward and to continue her quest

It sucks so much that (Unseen Village)
bell ringers don't stay dead. The concept was neat at first "WHERE THE FUCK ARE THESE SNIPERS FROM BEHIND ME COMING FROM OH MY GODDDD" "...oh." But, man. Now I'm just running full sprint through the entire zone cause I'm tired of dealing with them.

Yeah, they should have gone with the
Dark Souls necromancer system. The area is a major pain in the ass.

You can't re-spec? Great.

Also what is the consensus on the samey armors and weapons? I miss my armor variety, but I guess it is owed to the battle system?
