lol this boss got stuck in the same attack the entire fight, luckly for me it was the one that was the easiest to parry.

Finally starting invading, and playing co-op. It works like a charm, I trust that most players will be able to figure it out before long and the fun will begin. Me and a fellow GAFer took out a boss each and did some grinding for echoes, also managed to get invaded a couple times. Loving the online component so far, but note I had to put my PS4 in the DMZ otherwise I was getting disconnect errors.

I'm never finding anyone to invade. One outta like 30 tries worked.

Is there anymore lore on the
Vilebloods
? I support any group that wants revenge and looks wealthy.

I found some things.

"Pledgers to this oath are Cainhurst Vilebloods, hunters of blood who find dregs for their Queen of coldblood, particularly in that of hunters. Yet the corrupt are heretics in the eyes of the Church, thus subject to the wrath of the Executioners."

Makes sense as hunters are abundant and an easy source of blood to find.

And another:

"Silver helmet/armor/gauntlets/leggings worn by the royal guards who protect Annalise, Queen of the Vilebloods at Cainhurst Castle. This paper-thin silver armor is said to deflect blood of ill-intent, and is what allows the royal guards to capture prey for their beloved Queen,so that one day, she may bear a Child of Blood."

Hmm!

like how does the storage system even work?
I had over 30 blood vials in there last time I checked and now theyve all disappeared

Hell yes! After a bunch a struggling tries, I managed to take down A
melia by myself. I found her to be much easier if you don't rely on the lock on when dodging. It allowed me to move right past her into position where I could strike and few times and back out. I finished it off with some fire paper.

Going to go back to the chalice dungeon and try and clear the 3rd floor. The boss is giving me trouble there, too.

Are you talking about
Watchdog
? You have two options when fighting him, either damage his head (works great with the axe) or damage his legs. I damaged his legs. Lock-on was being a pain, so I did it without lock-on. After you get a few hits on his legs be sure to back off unless he falls down because he will do an AoE if you keep attacking.

Right, but that's only half the story. It's not always one hit first of all, and since it's slower you better hit everyone around you in that hit or they'll get you while you're recovering. You see what I mean?

Compare that to the cane which covers more distance and has more room for error because new shots come out faster. Since it uses less stamina, you get more chances too, so the fact that it takes more hits doesn't matter.

I hope that helped :)
It's really cute to be condescending.

The fact that it takes more hits does matter because doing more damage matters against bosses, which is by far the hardest time someone new to this game will have. What about all of the enemies that don't get stunned like the brick ogres or the really fucked up villagers or the werewolves? Good luck with them as they walk through all of your attacks and catch you in the recovery of one of your strikes that did a fifteenth of their health. Instead, charge attack with the axe, get the knockdown, then get a pixel of stamina back and have another one charged up for the moment they get back up. The same thing you can do to VicAm to completely stop her from being able to do anything.

Hope that helped :^)

Whoa, I came home from work and turned on my PS4 and Bloodborne resumed and was online. Can see notes. Thought it would kick me back to menu like last time.

guys... do...do I
jump in the water
? :(

I mean,
Byrgenwerth
is tiny and I dont see anything else to do...
the old man is pointing in the direction but theres nothing there, except the sea
:(

Im scared

Well I mean, that's what the church is for, so that makes sense right? These aren't Christian churches haha

It's just ... in Dark Souls 2, you have Majula as starting place and then go out and venture in a star-like formation to different places of the continent. The most important place, the Dragon's Aerie, is one of the locations that is the furthest away from Majula, so it all feels disjointed. It feels like a JRPG journey from the hero's village to the big bad's castle.
In Bloodborne, you go up and down, left and right, here's an elevator, there's a gate, and in the end, all places seem connected. And one of the biggest bads
has, location wise, been right infront of you, after you kill Amelia. It's so close!
That's what makes Yarnham feel like a place, a city, and not just a web of setpieces like they used in Dark Souls 2, just so they could have a lava world and an ice world.

I found some things.

And another:

Hmm!

We need a story/lore thread pretty soon. That's some interesting stuff along with the saddest sidequest ever
Gascoigne and his family :(

no it doesn't

Cool. Think I'll go there and take out BSB next since I'm hopelessly lost in the woods currently.

Pretty stumped trying to find
Vicar Amelia
in the Old Cathedral, I keep getting my ass kicked by majority of the enemies in that area

That was a real grind for me as well. Area luckily has a crap ton of shortcuts to open. Once you get those working, Getting to her becomes way easier and you can just run passed everyone.

That moment when you loose 80000 blood echos trying to trying to get to the next lantern cause you are already far into the damn world... FML I could of leveled up 4 times or so.... Hate the snake people

That happened to me with 88k echoes in same place then died going back to get.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's D
arkbeast
P
aarl
down

Surprisingly not as difficult as I expected. Did have to die a few times though.

Really cool design nonetheless.

Wow, did I really beat the game already?...

Everything felt like it came out of the blue. I couldn't have been playing for more than 25-30 hours...

I took out the W
itch of Hemwick
. I was too overpowered for that area. Everything was super easy. Boss didn't seem that difficult anyway.

Okay
frenzy
is such an awful status effect. I can't progress in
mensis
and
frontier
coz those
telepathic sword flinging aliens
keep killing me. And this is with my char having 372 in
frenzy
resist. Help

I don't know why but I find that I'm WAY better at combat in Bloodborne than I am in the Souls games. Maybe it's because I'm more of an offensive player?

Anyone else feel the same way?

Okay I bought a cloak/body slot armour and a couple of blood vials. How do you level up?

You need to gain 1 Insight. This can be done by encountering a boss (you don't need to beat them), or by finding and using a Madman's Knowledge. Then you can do it in the Dream.

Yep, that's the one. I was trying to apply the same tactics I used before, but the darn boss's attacks are in a different sweeping motion and I keep dodging into them! Will be careful on the AoE, thanks!

Has anyone been able to reliably coop yet? My brother and I were 44 and 42 each 7 insight trying with and without passwords while trying local and worldwide for like 30 or 40 min.

How many times have you guys died by getting stuck on scenery and trying to dash?

I appreciate the detail but it's a pain when you're trying to weave around and you get stuck on a statue.

Total Souls noob, just crawled my way to the first boss fight after several hours and finally unlocked leveling (without beating the boss, naturally). Is there a checkpoint (lantern) close by after beating the boss (Cleric Beast), or is there still a long way to go for that?
No, but you can unlock the gate to the left of the old yarnham lamp which takes you right to the house.

When you get to the bridge, go down the stairs to the house, down the stairs of the house and exit the door on your left. Keep going up a flight of stairs and you'll get to the gate. Once you open it it stays open even if you die.

Neither of you have the item to join anothers game. Need 10 insight to buy it.

I'm sure it's been discussed plenty, but I'm getting pretty f'ing frustrated with the new summoning system. I don't like that I can't see symbols to see if other people are playing in the area. I don't like that I can't choose who gets summoned. I don't like that I lose insight for trying to find people, even if it doesn't succeed. I don't like that it has become more difficult to play with friends, even with the network password option. I don't like the obscurity of not knowing if it matters or not where I'm at in the level compared to other people. I don't like that I can get summoned into someone else's game and not be anywhere near them and have difficulty finding them. I don't like that I have no idea how to turn the bell off once I've activated it - there must be a way to do this, right?

Are there any positives to the new summoning system that I'm simply missing? Right now it's significantly detracting from my enjoyment of the game.

This is great, I'm loving the lore.

Also can someone explain, why do I hear random babies crying in the world when there are none around me?

Yharnum the city is named after a person named (you guessed it) Queen Yharnum who is a vampire/monster that seems to be pregnant (you fight her as a boss and see her in a cutscene after fighting Rom, the Vacuous Spider). I imagine that's the source of the crying. A dead, unborn child crying into a nightmare.

I am quite surprised. This is my first Souls game and none of the bosses so far have taken me more than two tries. However, I only have killed 4. Hopefully there is some punishment in store from the next few bosses.

Gaf, here is a little guide I put together to help you get informed about Chalice Dungeons. I'm a Junior, so if someone wants to make this a thread of it's own, or put it in the OP. that's fine with me, If it's old or not useful enough that's cool too. Hope it helps!

So, You're Going To Start Chalicing (item name and location spoilers).

Things to know:

Why should I do Chalice Dungeons?
Chalice dungeons provide unique game experiences. There are multiple unique bosses inside chalice dungeons. I have fought at least 7 unique bosses in chalice dungeons that don't appear in the main game, and I know that there are more bosses I haven't seen. Chalice dungons also provide the chance to get unique weapon forms which have different blood gem slots. I know of at least 1 weapon
beast claw
that is entirely unique to the chalice dungeon and can't be found elsewhere at all. Chalice Dungeons are also where the very best blood gems are found. There also may or may not be special Caryll runes found in them. Finally, they provide endless new gameplay, including new traps, enemy locations and an endless array of randomized new dungeon.

Where do I find Chalices?
There are four basic types of chalice and one special type:
Pthumeru Chalice: Drops off the boss of Old Yarnham
Hintertomb Chalice: Drops in the second layer of the Central Pthumeru Chalice
Ailing Loran Chalice: Drops off of the boss of the Nightmare Frontier.
Great Isz Chalice: Defeat the boss at the Altar of Despair.

These 4 basic chalice types are found as items. Additional chalices of these types that make deeper dungeons are found inside the basic chalice dungeons. For example: The Central Pthumeru Chalice spawns a new dungeon in the Pthumeru tileset. The Central Pthumeru Chalice is a reward found in the Pthumeru Chalice Dungeon.

Short Root Ritual Chalice: allows you to use the makeshift altar. This is designed for co-op. To find it, you must complete the Lower Hintertomb dungeon. It can also be found in some Pthumeru root chalices, and, I assume, In other root chalices. Lower Hintertomb seems to be a guaranteed drop.

Are all Chalice Dungeons random?
No. The majority of chalice dungeons are pre-formed and will have the same layout for everybody. Any chalice that has the name "root" in its title will be randomly generated.

Making a dungeon
To make a chalice dungeon, walk up to one of headstone to the left of the doll in the hunter's dream. To actually spawn a dungeon you will need to have a chalice in your possession and some materials. Making the dungeon consumes some amount of blood echoes and whatever materials the chalice requires,Early on it's merely a bit of ritual blood, but more difficult chalice get more extravagant in their requirements. Most chalice materials are found as rewards in other chalice dungeons. For example: A dungeon depth 2 will likely drop "ritual blood (3)"

The Makeshift Altar is for Co-op
The Makeshift Altar is for Co-op. It allows you to join someone in their dungeon without making your own. (The following is stolen from reddit:) You both set your password. One of you enters a dungeon and uses the Beckoning Bell. The other searches for co-op at the Makeshift Altar to join him.

What is Depth?
Depth is a measure of enemy difficulty in a chalice dungeon. Depth 1 could be tackled by any character, as long as they take care. However, difficulty jumps up quickly. My level 90 character is always at risk of death in a depth 4 dungeon, and I died multiple times in depth 3 dungeons. Be warned.

What are "Layers?"
Layers are levels within a chalice dungeon. Each layer will have a single boss behind a locked door. somewhere within the dungeon is a switch which unlocks the door.

Fetid Offering?
Some of this is still pretty unknown. Performing a fetid offering consumes extra reagents when making the dungeon and is said to increase the chalice difficulty while also improving the item drops. Please PM me if you know more.

Why are the Enemies Endless?
Bum rush bell maidens! Bell maidens can completely destroy you because they spawn endless lines of powered-up monsters. Kill 2 or 3 red mobs and then immediately rush and kill the maiden while they respawn. When the maiden is dead the enemies de-spawn.

TIPS
Where to grind for echoes: If I am having a particularly tough time, I may need to restock my bullets and vials. I recommend going to the (end game area)
Nightmare of Mensis: mid tier.
It takes 3 or 4 minutes tops to get almost 60,000 echoes. Just kill the first 3 shadow enemies, backstab the pig to death and then run past the 2 pigs and 4 shadows. The pigs and shadows will fight each other and then you can clean up the rest. Easy.

Keep leveling: I have a character dedicated to Chalices now. Stuff gets so hard that you may be wise to just keep pumping those stats.

Shining Coins! USE THESE TO MARK WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN. Some Chalice dungeons can spiral in on themselves Shining Coins can help you keep better track of where you have searched. I drop them at door jambs, on the side of the door that I came from.

There are often multiple doors off the main hall in each layer. Some side doors of dungeons will be found behind the locked door but before the boss. Keep your eyes peeled. You can miss rooms full of treasure chests if you don't. I missed a treasure chest containing an extra chalice because I failed to see a side door.

Parry Bosses: many of the dungeon bosses are hard hard hard, but they can be parried. This is an invaluable tactic in controlling the fights.

Complete side doors one at a time: Systematically completing one entrance to a layer can make it easier to continue your run if you die. Once you have explored an entire entrance (assuming they don't link up, which is often but not always the case.) you can move on to the next one. Haphazard exploration can lead to missed treasure.

Hug a wall: In a complicated maze of corridors, consider always hugging the right/left wall, to ensure you get to every room in the wing.

You don't have to kill everything. Seriously, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. run past some stuff, especially if it's big, slow and won't follow you too far.

Fuckin' A nice post! Great stuff that should get linked to from the OP.
