So about the npc rescues-

With the exception of that one guy in the woods, and we all know what happened to the little girl, is it safe to send everybody to the chapel?

i can give you all a concrete example

on the way to father g, those two werewolfing kind of things

i get klled by the one with the spear so much, i try and dodge/evade it but i always get caught by it and it kills you in like three hits

i would say maybe 1/3 of the times i go to that boss, that one guy kills me

am i supposed to be struggling this much with this game?

There is another, far easier way to father G. From the lamp to the left instead of right. If you have opened this shortcut. Did you drop down left from the laughing woman? There are cages with dogs. Follow this path and you can open the shortcut to the central yharnam lamp. From there, the way to father g is maybe 1-2 minutes without fighting. No wolfes.

There's a church lady in the area where those bag guys kidnap you. If you send her to the chapel and Arianna is there she can kill her.

NPC rescue -
Okay other then those two, is that it? Is the old lady 'safe' ? I've heard different things about her

just use cover!?
reach him with no problem and then beat him first try.

Wait, what?! There's a way to cover? Maybe I'm dumb or it's because this is my first soul-ish game, but I had no idea you could to that. How and where do I that at this certain place?

Is Arcane actually even worth leveling up beyond 18 (Beast Roar/Empty Phantasm Shell)? Sure doesn't seem like it. Mine is currently at 40, and while Augur of Ebrietas is hitting for around 200 on most enemies and only requires one bullet, it's like a super slow version of Great Combustion that knocks enemies down. The knockdown doesn't really give you an advantage though because of the really long recovery time. Beast Roar on the other hand is like Force, which does a relatively fast knockdown, giving you the advantage, as well as cheese potential. My weapons do good damage...until they don't.

AFAIK there aren't many (if any) enemies that are really resistant to physical damage compared to the other elements. While each enemy seems to have their own elemental weakness, it's a chore having to constantly switch weapons with different elements because the one you're currently using the enemy has high resists to. For less investment you can do almost the same physical damage against enemies that have elemental weaknesses AND when you need to, buff it with a paper or the Shell. You can't buff weapons that are using elemental gems.

If Arcane actually raises the damage of the papers or the Shell, it might be worth chasing after you're already at 25/25 STR/SKL, but it seems like a waste prior.

edit: Also, there's a really cheesy way to kill Rom.
Just use an upgraded flamethrower, and stick to the side of her head and fire at around a 45 degree angle towards her ass. She will keep rotating in circles or slowly moving back. You can kill her before she teleports.

i pretty much constantly switch between Axe and Holy Blade...got interest in Kirkhammer because of the A Scaling in Strenght :/

You need +10 on the Hunter Axe to get its best Scaling ratings and hit B in Strength. Ludwig's Holy Blade only needs +7 for its highest in Strength and Skill. You need +10 on it to get an A in Arcane, but that does absolutely nothing for the weapon unless you change its damage to Arcane/Fire/Bolt with gems.

So I'd go with the Hunter Axe first. Do the Holy Blade later if you get another from Chalice dungeons or NG+.

So I went to the right of the cathedral and got
grabbed by some massive multi limbed beast called Amidahla, who transported me to some building.
Should I crack on here? I use the torch to gtfo?

I think she's safe, but in my game I kept asking her to get me sedatives and eventually she appeared dead outside the chapel. So I'm not sure what happens if she stays alive, because she's going crazy right before she dies.

is this the way that uses the elevator? cause i had that shortcut. or is it a different one?

oh shiiit.
I want to get the true ending and already killed the clinic lady so I need Arianna alive to get my third umbilical cord. I rescued both Arianna and the church lady. I hope Arianna's still alive.

Is it safe to just kill the church lady? As in, is this like the Souls games where NPCs don't give a shit if you kill other NPCs?

Wait really?
I have had both of them there like the entire game. Church lady was there first though so idk. I only have the final zone bosses to beat before the endgame as well and the only thing that's different about them is the nun seems to be going mad, and Arianna is hunched over in pain, I thought related to another spoiler.

honest question, are the next zones like this
yahar'gul place
? Because im just not having fun anymore, and its really bumming me out. Up until now, and in most places in the dark souls, I could die a million times and still have fun. This zone is just draining me completely an I just dont want to play anymore.

Its not even rage/frustration, its just complete disinterest (where in the previous 25 hours I went "FUCK I DIED" now I just go "yep, I died again, /shrug"), and like I said, its really bumming me out because its not a "man fuck this game" feeling, its a "yeah I dont want to do this anymore" feeling, which strangely enough, only happened to me once in dark souls 1 (and never in 2), and that was with the anor londo archers.

I dont know if its the respawning enemies, the oppresive feeling of the zone, the type of enemies (one of the things I think is unfair in the souls games is unstunable enemies, just because thats not playing by the rules of the games they created), or just a combination of all the above but its doing it and I cant help it.

oh well, back to it I guess :/ hopefully Ill start enjoying myself again after this zone. Man this is bumming me out

I got Arcane to 40 and it's pretty shit. And the Shell does not have any scaling stats. I made a lengthy post on all the items yesterday and the damage ones are horrid. A buffed up Evelyn or Cannon are a far, far more potent and efficient use of bullets than any of the Arcane items. There's no point in leveling it past 15 for Shell usage, imo.

That's the one (left way thorugh the gate wehen you spawn at central yharnahm). You encounter one normal guy, then two brick giants, then the long walkway with a mob which gets stomped from burning ball, then brick dude and shield guy and two other harder guys , then you are at father g. You can run past everyone.

Yea, I couldn't get the third cord because of this. :/

Highest Skill Scaling with Upgrades:

S - Blade of Mercy

A - Reiterpallasch, Threaded Cane

B - Burial Blade, Chikage, Rifle Spear, Ludwig's Holy Blade

The rest are C or lower.

Kinda sad that Ludwig's makes that list when it's primarily a strength weapon anyway. This game really needs more weapons.

The old lady will
eventually go crazy and think you are her child. She will give you seditives if you tell her your problems. After asking for them a few times she runs out and tells you to wait. When you come back next time there will be message on her chair saying she will be back soon. Come back again and she will be back with more sedatives, but if you run her out this time she will die outside when she goes to get more again.
At least that is what happened to me. May be different if you aren't greedy.

yeah i had that one

Am I crazy or did load times get patched? I'm not aware of downloading anything but Suddenly I have no time to check GAF during loading screens. I've heard later areas get faster, I'm in
the nightmare frontier
for reference

Made decent progress yesterday by getting past Rom and the One Reborn. Not sure how close I am to the end, but I know I still need to do Darkbeast Paarl, Martyr Logarius, Nightmare Frontier, Lecture Hall and go to the Abandoned Workshop.

The first half of the level kinda sucks. I just went yolo and ran through the whole thing. There's no point in fighting those things if they respawn anyway (I know you can kill the bell ladies but they respawn every time you die — as opposed to the DS necromancers — so I just cbf after a couple of tries). It's not too hard and that way you can just get on with the rest of the game which is better.

you can run past those two guys without fighting them. that is a valuable lesson to learn for the rest of the game: fight your way to the boss area the first time, run past everything on the way there the second time.

When
does she do it? And did who did you send to the church first?
God damn I really wish that
there was at least some dialog about it from either of them. Like they never said anything about each other and just kept offering their blood.

I found this second brutally hard and I
ran away like crazy after I figured out the path. There is another lantern nearby.

Ludwig's isn't really primarily a strength weapon. It has completely identical scaling in the end for Strength and Skill and both only go to B. They both start at D and end at B, Strength hits B a couple level upgrades earlier, but once they hit the same level they give the same bonuses.

Okay,
Right before the disgusting monsters that spit at you there should be a path up some stairs to the left that let you go across the overpasses. There will be a couple of monsters on them but nothing as hard as dealing with the things on the ground. Around halfway along that path there is a dish on the ground that you can use to teleport to a different dish.

ok got the shortcut, that helps at least. thanks dude

question, im actually using it again now after not liking it at first. im at 25STR, but it scales with Skill (and arcane too), so if I get my skill up to 25, will the sword scale from both and get a lot stronger? same for arcane too I guess, but that seems like a shit stat to pump 25 in

Amazing atmosphere, but worst area of the game so far by a long shot. The best course of action for that place is just to haul ass from the lamp you find to the boss, because it is just a giant clusterfuck until you find and kill the
bell maidens that cause the respawning.
