Farming Cathedral Ward gives me like 4000-6000 Blood Echoes ( depending on if you beat the
Church Giant
and the other
huge chain ball guy
.)
I know where I can get souls, the problem is time. I can't put in an hour to just farm then die on the boss then do it again. I work full time so if I can only put in an hour a night, I'm not actually getting anywhere.

I'm finding the bosses way too difficult and I'm finding the game less fun because I'm not moving forward.

Just beat Father G easily...really got a hold of the gameplay now. Stupid question though...how do I equip gems? I have one but have no idea how to equip it.

Just sending a new request for those who have cleared the game, I'd like to know how many lanterns I'm missing (if any).

From left to right I have: :

Tombstone 1]
8 respawn points
Tombrstine 2]
7 respawn points
Tombstone 3]
6 respawn points
Tombstone 4]
12 respawn points

You can't until you get an item after a certain boss:
The Witches. It's in the room right after them.
After you get that item you go to the workshop building in the Dream to the back altar and interact with it and you can equip your Runes.

Completely stuck on Amelia and bsb. I use a shit load of consumables then it takes me ages to farm it all back. Then I die again. I think even with extra leveling I probably won't beat them. While I finished all 3 previous souls games, this one is just too difficult and the farming for vials rather than estus flasks really is a step backwards imo.

I think I used something like 7 hours on Amelia, consumable farming included. When I finally beat her I was shaking. I don't think I have ever had such a Rush from a video game before. But being a Souls vet you know all this. Just take a break and try again. :)

This helped me:
I used 2 handed weapon and did a charged strike after a Dodge roll. She gets staggered off those.

Don't want necessarily specific descriptions, bit after beating the
shadows,
do I have to go to Byrgenwerth? Seems like im not far enough for that?

Also.. 41 insight now. Wandering through the Cathedral ward, outside. Casually looking up... WOAH. :-D

Couple of basic questions from a beginner, if someone doesn't mind.

Is it ok to stick with the saw blade for the entire game and keep upgrading it, or will I have to switch eventually? Same question for my gun aswell

Is there a recommended build for beginners? I picked the military vet class and have been putting points into strength and vitality.

Thanks

I thought BSB was really hard because I found it almost impossible to tell the difference between the windup for the parryable arm swipe and "take all of your health in one second" lunge.

So now every time I warp to the Odeon lamp there's a ridiculously overpowered NPC hunter in yellow that wrecks my shit and spawn kills me there over and over. I had to run to the Cathedral Ward lamp to get away from him. Anyone else see this?

Ey?

Oh yeah, scared the crap out of me. And right on the chapel too, hmmm....

Thanks Sean! How far is that from my current spot?

I've beaten all previous Souls games but I'm on the verge of giving up over the Blood Vials. I absolutely hate grinding for them. I'm so sick of losing a few times to a boss but getting closer each time, only to find I have to halt all progress and go back and grind for healing items.

I have been frustrated with Souls when I was a newcomer, we all have been, but this is irritating on a whole different level. It forces me to grind in a way that doesn't make progress, just prevents me from doing what I want to do.

I think the Blood Vials replacing a refilling healing item was a horrible decision.

i think he's talking about the blood gem you get right after father G. it comes in some kind of necklace. The equipment you need to upgrade blood gems is right around there in the same area.

"use" the item in your inventory, it will give you a red blood gem. you can then upgrade your equipment with blood gems at the workshop in hunters dream.

With heavy attacks? But they're slow as hell. The extended Saw Cleaver has good reach and fast attacks.
Holy blade provides a small knock back and stun with an overhead. You can't visceral with the stun but it interrupts attacks. You can chain large enemies down with it easily without getting hit. Stun lasts long enough to reset and swing again before most enemies have a chance to attack.

LHB moveset and damage >>>>> SC

Speed is nice but having the ability to stagger even large enemies trumps speed. If you want speed and good reach just use LHB in 1h mode. Multiple slash paths and thrusting. Never got touched by snake guys in the forest with LHB. Even the huge fuckers.

The blood vial system is probably my biggest negative for the game. The bonfire and estus flask system is far superior. For that matter, so is being able to rest to reset enemies if you want to farm for souls. Or just being able to conveniently level up at the bonfire. I realize that this is not Dark Souls, but it is still an inferior system. The least they could have done is make it like Demon's Souls where you can carry a ton of various kinds of healing grass.

I can answer about the saw blade. I used it for a while and found R1 spam with blade tucked be easy mode on most enemies. You will find weapons you will *want* to use later on, though.

Indeed. My exact mood last night before finally getting past it after 2 AM. I love the game on the whole, but that area is an absolute anti-fun pile of shit.

No way. That area was Tower of Latria 2.0
The music, the atmosphere, the enemies that are comprised of body parts, the eerie ambient sounds, etc.

There is an out of reach item that can presumably be reached with a really well timed jump in the "church" area in the building in Old Yarham that the minigun dude sits atop of. Is this item worth it? I am wasting healing items like crazy trying to do the jump, but it is damn hard

Wait, now I'm confused lol

I'm loving to play with the initial Hunter Axe? Should I spent my stones upgrading it, or should I use them to a stronger weapon?? Is there any stronger weapon, or they're all similar power wise?

Also, should I focus on Vit and Res and upgrade my weapon to do more damage, or should I upgrade STR aswell?

But he isn't talking about runes.

So D
arkbeast paarl is fucking me up
Ive managed to get him down to just a sliver of his health before, but then died
before when he did some electrical charge up attack thing I could just keep hitting him and it would stagger him, but recently he just lets it off no matter what I do
am I doing something different?

If you slash his front legs he'll crumple to he ground and lose his charge. This should give you time to get in some heavy hits. When his charge comes back he"ll stand up with his legs stretched and shriek. While he's doing that, you can just swipe his legs again and cause him to crumple to the ground. You can just repeat this process until he's dead and he'll never really have a chance.

I've spent some time playing since it came out this Friday (EU). I'm really liking the map design so far and transformable weapons. Took me a while to realise that you can incorporate transformation in the combo. First boss seems harder than it was in DeS (I've skipped on DS and DS2). The camera really doesn't help, when I try get behind him, I often get lost as to where my character is. Does the boss
stay engaged? He seems get stuck thrashing around so much that I can't get close enough to get of a hit without losing a lot of HP.
I'll keep trying though. When fighting a boss loading times do become annoying, it's fine when just exploring.

I am full in both my character and stash. In the forest they drop like mad. By the time I made a few runs through back and forth to find my way around and level up, I was 20/99. Same with quicksilver. Place is a gold mine for all sorts of goodies.

Some bosses don't even give you enough time to pull off an overhead attack in time to hit their weak spots.

If your weapon is strong enough.

The only thing that bugs me about Blood Vials is the 99 storage limit. I've had to leave a countless amount of Vials behind because I can't store anymore.

Well, for the time being, BB does have the easiest item duplication glitch in the entire series. You could earn several hundred thousand blood echoes in seconds if you were so inclined. Just be aware that co-op works within a limited level range, so if you hulk out to like level 500 or something, you're probably not going to find too many people to play with.

I've been grinding in Central Yharnam. I'll switch over to the forest. I hate grinding, and I especially hate when it pulls me out of a fight I want to Do.

Managed to take BSB down using only 1 antidote and 1 healing vial.
+3 Flamesprayer is very powerful against him in all forms

Ok thanks. Do you think I should save my upgrade materials then?

I love the atmosphere. It is probably the most disturbing and insane level I have ever played. You can literally feel the madness. But where I think it sucks is how the most viable option is to haul ass to the
bell maidens after dying countless times in your attempts at discovering where they are. But even then, the most viable option is still to haul ass to the boss in order to avoid the giant clusterfuck of enemies.
Fantastic area atmosphere-wise, but it's absolute dog shit on a dirt road from a progression standpoint.

Shouldn't you be used to it from Demon's? Depending on where you are in the game it gets much easier to just farm souls and buy like 100 of them at a time.

There are several optional bosses you can do by then, and several optional areas, and a few extra mechanics to unlock.

Generally, almost all bosses go down super quickly to
elemental (like, any of the three)
damage. This game's Drake Sword is:
The Tonitrus (electric mace)

I'm going 50/50 in Str/Skill because fuck it, why not?

Level 70 and aside from spending 2 points on Skill to wield Ludwig all my points have gone in VIT/STR/END. Violent Past. Very happy with the results so far. There was one Skill weapon I wanted to use, but not at the risk of spreading my character too thin.

Let us know how it goes.

I actually bought a bunch and have found a ton while full, only to look in my storage to find that they are not there. Sucks.
