Aside from the story, GT also had horrible battle choreography. They couldn't even remember that Goku doesn't spam ki blasts and the show focused almost entirely on him!
Anyway, even when you mention similarities like those, I think it just makes GT look bad. Receiving powers from others in order to face Beerus is necessary, but it's something that Goku doesn't like doing, and he let's everyone else attempt to face Beerus before stepping in. Compare to GT where he tells Goten and Trunks to not bother fusing and fighting and how they should just give him their power, and that's against an extremely weakened Baby.
Freeza was brought back in GT as a complete joke, alongside Cell, as just another reason to not give any screentime to the secondary cast even before Goku gets to face Super 17. Here, Freeza is brought back as a real threat, and apparently everyone else is getting fighting scenes against other foes.
He fights against him as a SSJ3 in the beginning of the movie. But he doesn't know his true power at that point. Afterwards, he doesn't fight again until getting the SSJ God power. What happens is that he runs out of the God time limit during the battle, but keeps some of its power in base and SSJ, before turning back into SSJ God by himself.
And Base Goku being better than everyone is just plain untrue in the new movies. GT didn't have a Beerus and Whis. And even when they brought Vegeta to Goku's level in GT they had to talk about how Goku was an innate genius and Vegeta needed the artificial waves in order to keep up with him. Also, when Base Goku got a huge boost in BoGs, there was an explanation, unlike in GT.
