Maybe I'm weird or haven't done enough
well I am weird but that goes without saying
But Chalice Dungeons are fun to me so far. Maybe because I played with an IRL friend and I love to coop in this game as much as I can. I only completed the first level and part of the 2nd level but it's cool. I do hate how we have to do each part back and forth to progress but oh well. I wish we could just join each other's game's easier than putting pw in and ringing bells all the time.

You're in the "oh this might be neat" phase of them, barely scratched the surface. They get old really fast and the complete lack of quality and meticulous craftsmanship that the rest of the game has will really show through as you go through small corridor after small corridor. And when you get to the Cursed dungeons where your HP is cut in half you will just want them to end and be done with it.

The Final Boss of them for the Trophy is really well designed though. It's too bad that she's the only good part of it, especially since that the "story" ones are mostly pre-made and not really all that random. The Root dungeons are the purely random ones and I wish that they had put as much work into the set chalice dungeons that they did the rest of the game.

All I need now for the platinum trophy is
blood gem master
and the
Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen
trophies. Going to be tedius grinding out to get that last one.

I liked the Rom fight. Very old school feeling. His shard attacks are so DMC, Cerberus, Berial, etc... I even used a take on DMC dodging to avoid his ones up top, one dash forward, two back, no hit confirm.

EDIT:
Dash as in roll, vise-versa.

I actually like the chalice dungeons. It just sucks it takes forever to find anyone to co-op with or help with bosses.

Is taking on
Dark Beast Paarl
recommended right now? I've made my way through the
Unseen Village
(which was hell) which I was warped to early on.

- I'm LVL 30 with an emphasis in skill, vitality and endurance.
- Threaded Cane +4
- Killed
Cleric Beast, Father G, Blood-Starved Beast and Vicar Amelia

Should I get this over with before I move on to the woods or am I too early? Thoughts?

You're definitely on the lower spectrum of levels to take him on. That said, I had a similar build and level and I did it. It's tough, but doable. You can also come back later though.

As others have mentioned: You definitely need to go do
Hemwick
. It's about right for the level you're at AND, most importantly, you can finally equip Runes once you finish the area.

I am not a pro by far but:

Did you beat the 3 hunters in that area already? They were pretty hard for me. I wish I came here after the Woods and before the next area. I'd say just go to Hemwick Charnel Lane, then the Woods, then back to here but that's just with me barely being at the Unseen Village now at L71.

Yeah I figured I was trying to tackle
Unseen Village
too early but I got dragged there against my will.

No I have not hit those 3 hunters yet.

Hemwick it is. Thanks guys.

Just got to the Forbidden Woods and travelled around a few areas without dying, got to the bridge with the snake head dude, didn't take the elevator in the watchtower, died. Then cried.

Can anyone tell me if the Blade of Mercy is any good? The idea of dual blades sounds awesome, but I'm already level 60 and I was kinda doing an arcane build with Ludwig's.

In my experience: excellent in PVP or against NPC Hunters, viable in one-on-one fights against humanoids, terrible against large foes or anything you need to stagger. Great side weapon, but to be honest as I'm nearing the end of my first playthrough I'm not terribly impressed by skill-scaling weapons.

I see. Seems like Depth 4 is where it'll begin to get really annoying. I will be looking forward to the final boss. That seems like it can be fun especially with 3 people.

That sucks. When I got to that big building I asked for help on here to make sure I didn't miss opening the shortcut.

I did totally miss the
secret route past the dog cages, though. I had to come back later and do that.

I still can't find any solid info on where to find the best bloodgems. I guess I'll blow all my mats and make a fetid, rotten, and cursed Isz dungeon when I'm home and hope for the best.

^
I spend my left over souls on vials, or if I don't have enough to level up and I'm back in the dream. Always sitting at 90+.

50 is NOT a Hard Cap. Holy shit, this bad information must stop spreading.

26-50 is a very minor dip in stats per point and you still get a shitload of stats. Then it softcaps at 50 with severe diminishing returns. A Hard Cap means you stop getting stats period and the only hard cap, with one exception, is level 99 on Stats. You still get stats from 51-99 it's just very small.

The exception being Endurance which hardcaps Stamina gains at 40, though you still get Defense stat gains post 40.

Soft Cap = severe diminishing returns on stat gains, but you still gain a small amount of stats per level.

Hard Cap = stat gains completely stop. This only happens at level 99 for most stats and 40 Endurance for Stamina.

For weapons where Scaling is equal or roughly equal you want to level both Strength and Skill to 25 before going past that to 50, sure, but it's not a big difference. For levels with a big gap in scaling going all the way to 50 in your main stat is better, though you still want both at 50.

Seriously, this. Right before the game was released, or at least that week, some site put out a video or an article about the "softcap" and "hardcap," and they misused those terms. I think everyone just learned of the stats from them and just repeat it.

What is meant exactly by the "tools" needed for one of the trophies? Also if I'm already in NG+, can I get summoned in an NG game if my level is within range as the host?

Not killing spiders is a crazy idea to me.

Yeah the first two times I fought him and ignored the spiders it didn't go well. I'd get swarmed or dived bombed from behind and die. The third time when I focused on killing his hoard first, I beat him no problem.

There are 9 special items what use QS bullets and to use those tools you need a certain Arcane level. Tools are basically magic items.

I'm now convinced G
erhman
's jumping attack (the one where he jumps and slashes the air) is unavoidable. Such bullshit.

I can dodge it consistently by getting some distance, keeping him in front and dodging backwards once or twice, to be safe. The only time I get caught is if there is no room behind me, like a wall.

Hope this helps. Stay with it, and have patience. His beast-mode attacks can be devastating if you aren't careful. He is pretty easy to parry, as well.

You guys need to learn how to YOLO and kill Rom in 2 minutes.

Yeah, it's absurd how much people have parroted this. Whoever first posted that 25 is a soft cap and 50 is a hard cap just do NOT understand what those terms actually mean at all. Soft Cap = you stop getting Meaningful gains, but you're still getting something, minor as it may be. Hard Cap = gains completely stop. Getting slightly less of an increase in stats and still getting completely meaningful and useful gains per level = not a cap in any way, shape, or form.
