Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

burnt through all my remaining insight trying to connect last night. Yuck.

ended up exploring the woods instead. pretty sure I killed everything but had so many souls by the end of it I went back to hunter's dream to lvl up several times rather than risk losing them.

Should I do chalice dungeons before NG+? I kinda just wanna get it over with to get the
scythe

Don't think that is necessary, but I highly suggest getting the
living string from the mother brain in nightmare of mensis
before going to NG+.

EDIT: Somebody helped me beat him.

Anyone want to help me with
Bloodletting
Beast?
Layer 4
Glyph code: ypj6iz7q

Need Defiled Chalice.

Is there anywhere specific I can get ATK% gems? The kind that increase physical and elemental damage, they are ridiculous for Tonitrus. I got a 15% one somewhere, and a weaker one through one of the forest shortcuts.

Might need to get my hands on a Lost Tonitrus, but it won't be necessary if I can find the right gems. I think I'm first going to progress NG+ a bit and amass a ton of echoes for leveling, chalice dungeons seem to get utterly ridiculous past depth 3. Are Ailing Loran and Isz pretty bad compared to Lower Pthumeru?

One more thing I just want to say is how much this game's enemy hunter fights remind me of Armored Core. I never got that impression from the Souls games but the quick dash you do while locked on in Bloodborne is totally similar to how ACs move. On top of that, landing hits with guns and the way they stagger when hit is reminiscent of those games. While fighting some of them I kept thinking of trying to land railgun hits on White Glint.

I found Ailing Loran to be very difficult, due to the enemy types. Isz was a lot easier for me, even though it's a depth 5.

descendant part 2 with the pillars was awful. i got stuck in the environment so many times. he attacks through everything too. i got cheesed so many times. now he got cheesed.

they're independent of NG+ so you can do em whenever.

Oh good. I've been slogging at a snail's pace through the last few parts of the game.

That's the thing that
falls into a pit when you pull the lever by the blood rock
right?

I still need a third attempt on
The One Reborn
. Can't believe it's so tricky for me. I even do it right with going up the stairs and
kill all the mages/spellcasters
.

I guess the size makes it hard to see it's next move....
I honestly found it easier when I
left the bell maidens alone
for some reason.

K so
I found the living string, and red jelly, killed all bosses, got the blood rock have every weapon emblem other then beast claws and the scythe, did Alfred and Eileen's sidequests, got all three one third cords, and found all four chalices.
Is it safe for me to go into ng+ and then finish the dungeons I only need the
blood gem +15,all weapons, and chalice dungeon level 5 trophy

I've been using something like this but focused more on arcane. It would work well with Tonitrus which has high strength scaling. As for the hunter tools/artifiacts they aren't amazing but I've found some uses for them.

The bone is kinda cool. It improves your dodge briefly at the cost of a lot of bullets. I have heard high arcane extends the duration but that might be bullshit?

Haven't tried the choir bell - it apparently heals your summoned guys. No idea for how much. Doesn't work when solo at all, it's greyed out.

The damage-dealing ones just seem to do pitiful amounts of damage even with high arcane. I haven't reached 40 yet so I can't use the final tool but the others didn't do much. Executioners' gloves were still useful in NG - I could two-shot those brain things for 3 bullets each. Tiny Tonitrus was alright in a couple situations, namely a boss that swarms you with small bolt-weak enemies. But in later chalice dungeons or NG+ I can't see these being useful - the second enemy I ran across in NG+ seemed to have over 1200 hp. Tentacle face item was hitting things for like 190, not even worth using.

Beast roar is situational. I've had success with it on enemy hunters or getting dogs off of me. Now that I think about it, I bet it'd be nice for spider swarms summoned by those bell bitches in chalice dungeons.

The empty shell adds a flat 80 damage to your weapon and is reusable - also looks cool. Problem is it won't work on elemental weapons or mixed weapons like Tonitrus. Doesn't scale with arcane either, so going past the 15 you need to use it won't help.

Not an artifact but I found an 'arcane sprayer' gun near the end of the game called Rosmarinus. It seems to do pretty great damage at +8 and doesn't eat bullets all that fast. I could see this coming in handy.

Hmm, wondering if I should invest in arcane then, it really does seem lackluster unless you're really into the tonitrus. Shitty thing is I rolled cruel fate...I could restart, I've only beaten cleric beast so far, but that would be annoying.

Restartitus rears its ugly head.

So should chalice codes be included in the OP?
I checked reddit for codes and they had some nice ones with useful loot. Might be good to see if any gafer has a cool dungeon they'd like to share.

That's the thing that

right?

Correct, there is apparently a way down there to kill it, I missed this and am in NG+, only one in the game as far as I know. Lvl 5 chalices might have it, but don't think anyone has found one there either as of yet.

So can you guys describe why you'd want to exchange chalice codes? Do some people have better loot in their's despite using the same chalice/ritual ingredients?

Might as well just try it that way then =)

Maybe I should try that. I've been having some massive trouble for some reason. One-shots and the like
I still don't know if I got lucky, or if there's any truth to the notion that
killing them makes him more aggressive
, as I've heard rumored by some, so your mileage may vary. Maybe I just got sick of the tedium after dying a few times and just went at it.

kirkhammer becomes super beast later on

key moves are definitely the jump attack with it and the charge up does insane damage.

Try the holy sword once you unlock it. I also thought the hammer was slow compare to the axe, which is prob slower than the saw cleaver as well. The holy sword is pretty good once you get used to it. It has a longer reach as a straight sword and transforming it to great sword can deal a good amount of dmg with longer reach as well. The great sword form is a little bit faster than the hammer however.

ight thanks for the tips. in the meantime, just beat djura first try
hurray for falling off building cheese :P
and that stupid other hunter there. not sure what to do next tho.

I think Chalice dungeons would be much better if loot was more interesting/unique. Has some things like runes and different versions of weapons, but a lot of the chests are just chalice materials.. Starting to feel like that "chest opening" music that sometimes plays is just teasing me. At least put something more interesting in those large chests that are guarded by big giant fast sword swinging guys then Slug Juice #2. :lol

The gems however, have been interesting and been helping me out. Though do wish it would stop giving me Fire/Bolt gems.

So I killed the witch, VA but have no idea where to go next? Any tips would be welcome.

Many different areas you could go to from there.

If you head out the door of the grand cathedral there is both a left and right path down the stairs. Both of those take you to new areas.

Well that sucked. Wanted to try the blade of mercy on Father at the beginning of the game. Manage to cheese and kill Eileen only to failed on the 40K cost to buy it. The most echos I can currently get is ~300 each from the werewolves.

I wish there had been more cross collaboration between the Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 teams. Both games were being worked on concurrently for a long time. Bloodborne takes some clear steps backwards from things that Dark Souls 2 already improved on, and Dark Souls 2 would have benefited from a better combat system and more cohesive world. It almost seemed like a "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" situation.

Also, given the fact that Bloodborne had nearly a year more of development time than Dark Souls 2 as well as superior hardware, the fact that Bloodborne has much more in the way of performance issues is odd.

Still, I love both of the games.

I've been to the right, that's where I got the ability to add runes. On the left you have those two hunters and some weird building that keeps killing me because of frenzy.

Time to coop people on CB.

I think in a couple months we'll all agree Chalice Dungeons are a cute idea not successfully executed. Procedurally generated content is tough for studies that have been doing it forever (ask Blizzard.) Bloodborne isn't a loot game. Very few of us are going to grind Chalice Dungeon's because it's fun to fight the bosses over and over again or because we just have to get a variation of Ludwig's Giant Sword.

The better endless grind for Souls games is Dark Soul's 2 remixed world in NG+. An expansion on that, with the base game content getting weirder and harder every NG+ cycle, would have been the way to go.

Absolutely. The Dark Souls 2 NG+ content was great. Expanding on that would have been an excellent idea.

I've always felt that one of the reasons the Souls series is so good is that it focuses on what it's best at. (Excellent, challenging combat and an interesting world to explore. Keeping things like needless puzzles and generic sidequests to an absolute minimum) Trying to throw in randomly generated, loot based dungeons just seems antithetical to that ideal.

Has anyone else noticed in Yahar'gul how you can shut down those bright craters with a corpse in the middle of it? There's four of them. You take 3x damage and the sound and light goes away.

Does anyone know why or what for this happens?

Believe me she is nothing compared to these hunters man. The trick for those big guys to me is to actually be really aggressive in your positioning. Dart around them really close and Attack from close to the rear. Dashing backwards seems like a good idea but it really isn't.

I think there is some trick weakness to her but I didn't need it for my fight

Pretty much this. I kept dying on VA just trying to dash away and heal. She would just lunge forward and keep hitting me. When I finally said "fuck it, I'm going to button mash up close and see what happens", that's when I figured out being under/behind her is actually the safest place to be. I died the first time doing this, succeeded the second time.

I wish one of the Chalice Dungeons would of be like a Hunter vs Hunter Boss Rush Mode.... where said Hunters did not have unlimited BULLETS!! Because right now those have been my favorite fights.

I keep saying this, but they should have a toolset and let the community do their own dungeons and bosses. Let people rate and favorite them, kind of like LBP. People could come up with much better dungeons than the randomly generated ones.

3 days to go until I can finally start to play the game. Fucking exams are almost over.

Is there anything I need to know before starting? I want to go in blind, but I don't want to miss anything (like extra bosses or hidden areas). What do I need to know?

Yeah thats brilliant

Nothing. Just prepare for the best game you have played in a long long time.

This is a cool idea.

I am really enjoying the chalice dungeons so far (I'm at Lower Loren layer 3) but am wait and see about whether it adds a couple dozen hours to my game or a couple hundred.

I had Abhorrent Beast down to less than 5%. I fucking had him down to less than 5%. I was on a fucking roll.

And the the worst possible thing that could happen happened.

My controller died.

My goddamn controller chose to die mere seconds away from victory.

I had to turn away as it mercilessly killed my hunter. Enjoy your cheap ass victory!

I couldn't reach my backup DS4 in time. Bastard can kiss my ass! I ain't going back any time soon.

I don't look at it as a loot thing as much as I do a way to just play the game without going through the same story area for no real reason (assuming you don't want to keep NG+ing).

go to the Cathedral Ward. head out the left door and go to the courtyard with those 2 giant axe carrying dudes. On the left side of the courtyard you will see another pathway. Keep going through there, tell the dude at the door the new password you learned from the cutscene with Amelia and you will then be able to go into the Forest

Or, by talking to citizens you can get a key that will unlock the way through that right pathway where you die from frenzy each time to gain access to a whole new area.

Other then play with headphones, no. or if you have a badass sound system, just turn it up loud. But headphones are AMAZING with this game.

But yeh, play blind, completely blind. So good

Now its for real... I can't beat G
herman
. I just can't...
I may have 3 hours or more trying to kill that stupid boss with no success.. I have already almost killed him 2 or 3 times. But at the end he is just too damn appellative.

I will try co-op only now. Or I just won't ever touch this shit again.

I don't know guys, Chalice Dungeons are obviously a little undercooked, but the foundation it's building up to is kinda insane to me. If a BloodBorne 2 builds on top of what they already made and expand the scope: Build Variety (Weapons Combinations Skill/Spells), Enemy/Boss Variety, Dungeon Design, Party Mechanics, this would be insane.

I still say a Blood Borne with Build Variety of Demon's Souls (and Boss Variety in terms of uniquely designed) with Raid Mechanics would mean I wouldn't have to play other games ever again, especially with Gems coming out to give that fucking Diablo itch to maximize my character potential.

DS2 really had NG+ on lockdown. No idea why they didn't adopt that philosophy going forward.

Man Logarius in NG+ is not a good fight. Someone really thought that it was a good idea for him to do the sword summons constantly starting at 75% health left.
