Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

It's almost here. I'm wondering would it be worth it to play this on my current pc or should I wait until I build a new one?

My specs are:
i5 750
HD 7970 ghz
8GB RAM

I'm concerned because this pc is quite old now and GTA V looks like a demanding game.

I'd say 1080 @ 30 fps or more

I doubt it, but does anyone know yet if GTA 5 will be unlocking regionally at midnight rather than whenever it's midnight in the US?

I want to know if it's worth staying up until midnight here in the UK.

You comfortably exceed the minimum requirements, but the CPU in particular may be a bottleneck for the higher settings (I'm guessing higher traffic/pedestrian density, etc).

Of course, this is all speculation. We don't know how the game runs, what settings it has, what those settings cost, etc.

Go on downloading now so I can do it next week when it arrives in the mail without you stealing my bandwidth :) And no, I don't want to be a disc jockey. Typing in the code and waiting is the way to go.

Does anyone know if GMG is giving a steam key? I see some stuff about Rockstar Social Club but nothing on steam.

The only store selling the Steam version is Steam itself. All other stores are selling keys for Social Club.

Edit: I'm invisible!

Here come the 'how will it run?' and 'should I buy it on this PC?' questions we all know the answers to.
We don't know what you consider ideal.
We don't know how the game runs.

Kinda wonder what's the point of holding the release date another week if they're already ready with preloads. I could understand why with the early preload before the PS3 release since physical copies take time to print out after the game goes gold and retailers probably wouldn't appreciate them selling digital copies earlier than the planned release date. But worrying about physical copies seem hardly an issue for the PC, especially in the US.

Unless there's a sizable Day 1 Patch they're still working on, not sure what's the issue in them pushing up the release.

I want to get this. I loved it on my PS3 and played it to completion and beyond and wouldn't mind doing that again, but I really don't want to spend another $60 when all I'm getting is the same game I've already played. I wish they had an expansion out for it like BoGT or TLaD as that would totally justify doubling down. Stuff like FPS mode and whatever improvements they've made to GTA Online do not interest me at all.

They're still working on the game. There actively working on it right now according to SteamDb

Steam doesn't have to redownload entire files if theres changes. It compares the differences and modifies the file to match the difference file with updates since like ~2 years ago.

So getting data on peoples PC's as soon as possible will let their changes still be applicable without huge changes.

In either case, it's still a matter of license agreements, not gauging whether they can get away with something or not.

Using my tethered phone's unlimited 4g to preload this to avoid shitting on my 300gb comcast cap. Suck it AT&T.

Yeah if they're still working on it then that certainly makes sense and is more than reasonable. Just would seem silly to wait for an arbitrary release date for the sole reason of ensuring that the digital copy can't be played before retail copies are on shelves (especially for a PC release).

You can pretty much bet that the developers all pulling crazy hours to fix as many bugs as possible at this point, so yeah they are most definitely still working on day 1 stuff.

Done! I'm way too excited for a game I already played like 18 months ago, even if I did intentionally stop playing it early in anticipation of a PC release.

Anyone elses preload really fuckin slow ? I've got a 4 - 5MB line and it's going at less than 1MB on Steam for downloading.

I've checked out the requirements for the game, and my setup apparently meets the requirements. I'm a little wary though.

i7 3770k
GTX 680 2GB
8GB RAM

I'll probably end up waiting to see how well it performs on different rigs.

Your RAM and CPU should be fine (assuming the latter is overclocked), but you'll likely find 2GB VRAM to be the limiting factor.

I've never OC'd my CPU. I have a Corsair watercooler handy, but that would require me to move everything to my smaller case.

I figured the VRAM would bottleneck performance. It may be better if I went with the PS4 version.

Just wait til it comes out.

At the worst, you may have to turn down a texture setting.

PC gamer performance anxiety is crazy at times.

I remember it happened to some people during Bioshock Infinite launch.
Ok, so not impossible, but clearly not a regular thing like he was making it sound.

That's the plan. Will check out benchmarks and see how fellow GAFers are faring.

That has never been my experience, unpacking games in the past has mostly been quite quick.

I don't know if it's normal, but a 40GB pre-loaded game takes almost 30 mintues to unpack for me. And that's with the entire game downloaded a SSD on top of a pretty fast processor.

Well I believe he meant it more in the way that his internet connection is so fast that it take shorter than it unlocking the game on a slow hard drive.

Ok I am downloading from nuuvem apparently

the code worked

I am excite

It requried download of some 170MB download tool and now the game is being downloaded.

Best version of the game for 30 bucks, fuck yeaaaa

Will be on drive in 3 hours, nice.

can you use the code on steam?

My download via Rockstar's servers has dropped from 900kb/sec (below my usual 5-7mb/sec) to 90kb/sec. I know we've got 7 days but it's still painfully slow.
