Also I personally think the password thing is pretty dumb. I don't really understand the design decision behind putting the path you're supposed to go off in a slightly hidden area and locking it behind a player's observational skills...

Not much to understand really. Because it's fun to explore and figure stuff out. It feels like your uncovering the mysteries of the city and it's inhabitants. Opening up an insignificant, optional part of the game after applying all this observation and exploration would completely deflate any satisfaction derived from it.

Wrong. You're told by an npc that only the church members locked the door and the only ones who can get in, he might of even mentioned a password. Then find the door and they mention a password. Then you go to the church, kill the church lady and watch a cutscene. Then you can look at the actual amulet. It all screamed "hey here's the password"

Hm. I don't remember that NPC telling me about the locked door. Which one was that? And what did the Amulet's description say?
Maybe I wasn't as thorough as I could have been, but chalking it up to From's "design philosophy" seems weird because I never got stuck like this once in Demon's or Dark Souls.

How do I go to Nightmare Frontier? I have the Tonsil Stone. Went to the right of Cathedral. Not sure what to do.

Go to the right of the Cathedral. And there is a path that leads further on past the two lighting bolt based hunters. You're going to enter a new large area with a big locked door preventing further progress.

Uhm, that door isn't optional AFAIK. Its the next area on the "main" quest after VA.

Edit: NVM, misread your point.

People complaining about the password to forbidden woods must never have played a good old fashioned point and click adventure game. Figuring out this is nothing compared to the shit you had to figure out in those games.

"Hey touch the skull for the password"

It won't let you ring the small resonant bell? Weird.

Nope.
Assume I can only help if the house is burning?

I've read that the
Gargoyles in Cainhurst and the Zombie/body part werewolves in Yar'ghul can drop them rarely, also something in Upper Cathedral Ward but I haven't been there yet.

Tried the gargoyles and get jack shit in 30 minutes. I have 3 blood stones and lack the chunks to get weapons to +9.

Still pretty dumb design to me. I didn't even realize I had gotten a password anywhere. Just happened to try the door again and my character knew it. Never looked it up either so don't even know where exactly it was gotten even after the fact. I can't understand how that solve could be a design goal for the player

You are right about the point and click stuff though. It's even worse :p

That's not BS. It's a boss that's actually challenging in NG+ and beyond. The stun locks are real. I love watching people who wiped her in one-go on their first playthrough suffer the indignity of getting your ass handed to you several times before learning how to dodge that sh*t properly.

They're NOT easy then are they :)
Hah, yeah I guess. Sucks it's basically a one-and-done OHKO for me that only happens after a long and boring start to the fight.

Alfred at the Oedeon Tomb tells you about the locked door to Byrgenworth. No one except scholars from Byrgenworth know the password, but no one knows where to find a living scholar from Byrgenworth. He also tells you that the Healing Church was branched off from Byrgenworth scholars. The headquarters of the Healing Church is the big cathedral in the Cathedral Ward. In the vision, Willem asks Lawrence if he too is betraying him (i.e. leaving Byrgenworth to start the Healing Church). This means the beast skull in the vision must be Lawrence's, and they are explicitly saying the Byrgenworth order's "words" in the vision.

I don't know if it is because I have 15+ Insight, but walking around Cathedral Ward. I am hearing a faint baby cry wherever I go. Kinda creepy. Didn't notice it before. Maybe wearing headphones is the difference.

Exactly. I was just saying that when main quest progress involves figuring stuff out, it makes it more satisfying to figure out than relegating puzzles to only optional areas in an attempt to protect players from themselves.

Over 15 does change CW. The tall pale guys get buffs too. (Cast projectiles from their lamps, etc.)

I don't know if the sound is related to Insight, but it's not just in the Cathedral Ward. You can hear the baby cry in other areas like Central Yharnam.

Yeah your probably right :( I've used about 17 insights and over 100 blood vials. I'm sitting at 9 time to farm I guess lol.

Just finished after 60 hours, offline entirely. Did most of the chalice dungeons and all optional bosses except
Moon Presence
, since I had no idea how to unlock it until it was too late. I read that it was the final boss, so I had no idea that it would be optional.

Anyways, I really enjoyed it, but I feel it was probably the weakest of all the Souls games. It certainly wasn't the progression that Dark was to Demons. My biggest gripe was that it never really felt like it was building up to anything, and then it just kind of ended. The levels themselves were mostly great though, and many of the bosses were very enjoyable. I was definitely very tough in parts, yet easy in others. I suppose it was like Dark II in that regard. I think at this point maybe I'm just getting franchise fatigue though. I hope FROM will take a break from this style of game for a while and wow us with something completely new again.

So my brother keeps dc'ing to the main screen when he tries to summon me to his chalice. Is there any ETA on a patch? It's getting rather furstrating....

probably somewhat stupid question

i'm at cathedral section
whenever i die and respawn my blood vials and bullets seem to replenish back to full 20.
which kinda feels like making the game easier than it should be.
if i remember correctly this wasn't happening at the start of the game.

am i missing a game mechanic or stumbled upon a lucky bug ?

It's replenishing your stock based on what you have in your storage. Notice when you pick up vials/bullets and you're already full, there's a different icon? Storage.

When you get more blood vials or quicksilver bullets than you can hold (20), the extras are sent to storage. Whenever you respawn, the game automatically transfers blood vials and bullets to you from storage. It wasn't happening at the start of the game because you didn't have any extra blood vials or bullets.

So yeah, don't worry, it's normal. Just remember that if you run out of them in storage, you'll stop refilling until you start filling it up again. It's usually a good idea to buy a bunch of extra blood vials and bullets when you have excess souls so you don't have to farm in the future.

I'm just missing the third boss from the Defiled Chalice Dungeon (yeah, that one), but I already have 4 of those red jelly things, the living cord and the haze things thanks to the extractor. Can I skip directly to the last CD after finishing the Defiled CD or do I need to do something else before that?

yeah seems i've somehow missed this whole storage mechanic.
was a dumb question after all.

So I'm lvl 40 (keeping it that way for a while now) and I'm still rockin' my initial gear (Threaded Cane + 6, Hunter Pistol +5).
Is this normal? Bloodborne doesn't have that many weapons compared to DeS/DaS.
How things are progressing I think I'll stick to Cane +10 all the way to the end.
I'm doing a DEX build, any other weapon recommendations?

For me it's: Demon's > (Dark = BB) > DS2.

Just can't shake my first love...that Demon's nostalgia. But FROM brought that DS1-level Magic back with BB. Such an ambitious and well designed world.

For dex/skill you have a few options. There's the cane, rifle spear, blade of mercy and the burial blade. There's the chikage as well but that benefits more from 25/50 skill/bloodtinge.

You mean Skill build :)

I'm doing the same. I use the cane and blades of mercy, along with the pistol. I'm loving it.

My fav weapon. I wanted it ever since the E3 trailer. Worth the wait. <3

Just beat ML after like 20 attempts. Stood up and did the old tiger woods fist pump! Then helped 3 others beat him so got another level booyaaah!

I did a skill build (50 skill) and I was also doubting whether to stick with the threaded cane. In my opinion it turned out to be the most versatile skill scaling weapon, so I pushed it to +10 in the end. Blade of Mercy is probably a cool dueling weapon, but its short range makes it less than ideal for PvE. Another downside of BoM is that a small part of the base damage is arcane, so it will be harder to buff damage with physical ATK UP blood gems, even though that S skill scaling at +10 looks enticing. Reiterpallasch is a good weapon that goes to A skill scaling relatively fast, but the moveset is less versatile than Threaded Cane, and it would feel weird to me to use a trick weapon with a meaningless alt mode. In B skill scaling territory, Burial Blade is a super-endgame (for most people, new game plus territory) weapon. Rifle spear has the same issues as Reiterpallasch. Chikage is mainly interesting if you want to do a bloodtinge build.

With blood gems found outside of Chalice Dungeons I was able to push the Threaded Cane attack rating to about 450 at +10. That is a pretty respectable number considering that we are talking about a fast weapon that can dish out a flurry of hits to deal major damage to bosses as well as keeping crowds in check with the whip alt mode. The whip can be technically difficult to use, especially in close quarters, but it has one of the best running attacks in the game imo, and fighting up close will not be a problem when you learn to mix up the light and strong attacks (attack animations start from opposite sides, which can be abused to not fail the wind up phase).

Edit: I would also think about switching that hunter pistol for the blunderbuss to have an easier time trying to stagger enemies.

Ok, so what's a good area to farm for Blood Shards and Twin Blood Shards? I want to play around with some other weapons in my inventory, but it's hard to gauge whether they're good or not when my +7's do so much more damage.

So I've been having fun with this game and been exchanging strategies and item locations with my cousin over text's.

So here's a dumb video I made for my cousin showing him a weapon location and directions two new areas.

if your playing blind this has cathedral ward spoilers

The Rifle Spear is good, but I'm a bigger fan of the Reiterpallasch. In fact, Reiterpallasch + Burial Blade makes an awesome combo because the one thing that Burial Blade lacks is a stabbing attack, which Reiterpallasch has loads of, being that it's a rapier after all.

Wow the Tonitrus doesn't fuck around does it?

No, it's mega strong, I just don't like that it has only a single move set since it doesn't actually transform. I still whip it out for enemies that are weak to lightning though. It fucks up Ebrietas like no one's business.

Game ending question

If I want all three ending trophies, do I need to complete the game three times?

You can back up your save before finishing the first time, then reload your backed up save.

Currently at lvl 58, i bit the bullet and leveled strength to the minimum required for using Ludwigs Holy Blade, although i wanted to make a pure skill character.

Imo it has an ok skill-scaling, making it viable for skill builds with just the 16 strength. I just feel that the cane lacks for some regular enemies and bosses. Couldn't beat D
arkbeast
P

with the cane, downed him in one try with the holy blade, it seemed that the increased dmg made it easier to stunlock him and open up visceral attacks.

So, maybe that's a weapon you might look into, if you are willing to drop some strength points.

The key to getting visceral attacks on that boss is attacking the right areas and isn't really about damage. I can attest that the cane indeed fucks up that boss, and isn't weak against any bosses that I've encountered. It has thrust, it has slash, it has range, it has speed, it has horizontal attacks, it has overhead attacks, it has stun power. It has everything.
