So my blood echoes just straight up disappeared in the fight with the
Moon Presence
. I ran around for like 10 minutes searching with no luck. Wtf!

edit: Finally found them randomly by pressing spamming X.

Finished Bloodborne last night. My first Souls experience and enjoyed all 50+ hours of it. Giving NG+ a shot and finishing up Chalice Dungeons. This game still has it's hooks deeply embedded in me.

Just to add to the very practical advice you got, here's some philosophical advice:

1) Don't play angry. Seriously. From Software products are phenomenal games and works of art, but extremely poor "stress relief." In fact they are at their best when they are causing you an intense amount of stress, when you're weak and afraid and far from safety, unsure of what lies ahead, daring you to keep your head and come out on top. No game. regardless of quality, is worth getting legitimately frustrated over, so just try to make sure you're in the right mindset when you start.

2) Don't worry too much if you feel like you aren't "making progress" in the way you might have continuous reinforcement in other games. Even if you are literally spending hours in the same area, attempting the same boss over and over again, you're improving your skill with the core mechanics and combat, learning your enemies, and establishing muscle memory.

3) Just about everything is some degree of obtuse, esoteric, confusing or even impenetrable without some outside assistance. When you run into a situation where you're sure you should be doing something but aren't quite sure what, or know that you need to know how something works to do what you want but it hasn't been explained to you, you might have the instinct to come here and ask about it outright. Follow that instinct. These games are largely designed to force you into some form of community involvement for answers, guidance and clarification.

4) If you're interested, I've heard from multiple sources that the Hunter Axe is the best starting weapon for new players (you'll get a choice). The Threaded Cane is the choice of ballers however.

I didn't realize I was a baller, and here I was thinking that I'm a noob.

Starting a new build tonight - will probably just be Str focused, since arcane doesn't sound particularly useful and bloodtinge sort of needs a build based around it to shine. I just want to smash shit with the Kirkhammer.

Completed it :D

LOL at
Moon Presence
fight. Didn't know about the 1HP attack and then my Chikage 2h killed me almost instantly.

Boss was easy 2nd time.

Yup, this is my next playthrough. Although it's temping to level up BT to 25 and man the cannon on a STR build.

Guys, I just got the Red Brooch. Is it better to
return it to Gascoigne's daughter
or
use it on my weapon
?

You'll get better runes, way better runes, than the brooch. But know that, whether or not you give it to her, there will be consequnces.

I'm save scamming the chalice dungeon bosses. I'll keep 99 vials in my inventory and go into a chalice dungeon boss and go for it. But if my vials get close to zero because I'm scrubbing it up then I'm not interested in re-grinding for another 99 vials.

Welcome to hell

Huh I'm really surprised that people had so much trouble with the cursed chalice. That dungeon was actually easier for me than many of the preceding ones. The bosses of both Loran chalices, for instance, took far more attempts for me than either of the cursed ones.

So I just unlocked the gate in the dream, but how do I know if I have found every boss in the game? I don't want to miss anything!

You know you can buy more than 99 vials at a time? Last time I went to a vendor with a ton of echoes I was able to buy 117 blood vials at once. Storage doesn't cap at 99.

E: Never mind, you're right.

Question for anyone who has explored
cainehurst castle

I noticed when fighting some of the ghostly maiden mobs that a red glowing mark will appear on the back of my character's neck. It lasts for maybe 20 seconds and a hit animation occurs sporadically but doesn't really do any damage. Anyone know what the deal is?
There's someone shooting darts at you.

Yes it does. Your inventory probably just wasn't full so you refilled that then your storage

Oh god. This game.

I just opened up the big shortcut by the lamp in the Forbidden Woods and....wow. This game just gets so much harder immediately after. Total change up as far as types of enemies and shit. Wow

Can someone help me with E
brietas,
C
unt of the Cosmos
?

Level 73.

Man, the
Blood-starved Beast
is just absolutely impossible to me. I don't think I've had this much trouble with a fight since Artorias in Dark Souls. I've been stuck here for three nights in a row now and I've not made an inch of progress. The first two-thirds of his health are easy as hell, just no problem at all, but when he gets in to that final part, I just have zero chance to even hit him once. I've used the summon outside the gate, but he's no help. I don't have PS+ and I'm not gonna get it (waste of money imo), so summoning is out of the question. The constant grinding for blood vials don't really help making this a fun fight for me. I miss Estus Flasks, at least they had the decency to refill after you died.

Oh well, I'm giving up for now, gonna waste another night tomorrow...

That last part is definitely his hardest part.

What seemed to work well for me was to
back up from him and get a pretty good distance. Then, bait him out a little so that he charges you. Roll past him without locking on, turn and whack him once or twice. Repeat.
It's a safe, but slow, way. I could never get a visceral attack lined up in that last stage.

So I'm playing my NG+ and I just realised I never took a right turn just before you take the stairs to VA. I came across this giant room, but the door is locked. Anyone has any idea what I have to do here? It seems like a weird place for something like this to be, and not being able to do anything.

I took a screenshot of it: http://i.imgur.com/d7dN7Sp.jpg

You go in there later on... You can't go there yet.
It takes you to
Unseen Village
.

It's the entrance to
Unseen Village
. If you recall, it's where you get teleported after
killing Rom
.

have a tonsil stobe and let it pick you up, you'll get taken to the lecture hall and can go to Nightmare Frontier

ok Bloodborne, you win, I'm done trying to platinum you.

The Defiled Chalice isn't hard, it's cheap. Its difficulty done bad and I don't feel like mess with bullshit like this (yep, rage post, sorry bout that lol but I really hate when devs caps your characters for no reason)

where are you stuck ? first boss is easy, just parry. second boss, you need to be patient. third boss is very easy as well, keep your distance and hit its hands.

I killed him with a trick.

When he got 1/4 of the health and start to run over you... just run... after 4 or 5 runs over you he will stop for 5-7 seconds... that is when I do a combo with 2-3 hits and start to run again.

Take a time to kill but it works.

Stay close to him and stick by his sides. He's fast at that point but he's incredibly clumsy if you aren't staring him in the face. I had a hard time with him too in the early game but I fought him again in a chalice dungeon and he was easy following this strategy. Just be ready to dodge his OHKO and perhaps grab a heavy attack at the back followed by a visceral if you see a window, that alone will put the fight near its end.

this thing killed me. then I ended up in a jail. hypogean gaol. what do I do with that girl? also that place seems too high level for me haha. it is on the 3rd tombstone whereas I'm only at church of the good chalice...
Really?

Hahahaha, change your username. :P

Depth 1-3 are pretty easy. Depth 4+ is where it's start getting rough even as a Lvl 100+

The Defiled Chalice is some tough shit, haha. Thought
the game was glitching when my health got cut in half.

Been stuck at
Watch Dog of the Old Lords
for while too. Feels like the strategy is pretty straight forward, with dodge, hit, dodge, but man, I cannot execute at all especially when it does it's charge attack and kills me, no matter how much health I got.

Then
Amygdala
is up next in the next layer? Ah man, I dunno if can get past this, hah. Does anyone know if the Lake rune (DMG reduction %) would really help?

I started a Waste of Skin character last night. Back stabbed the werewolf at the beginning, and managed to kill Father G using the Saw Cleaver without leveling up. Just parried a lot and threw molotovs at the end. But yeah, I'd only recommend this origin to veterans. The starting vitality and strength are ok, but the stamina is really low. You can get caught attacking and not have anymore stamina to deal the final blow or dodge an attack.
By backstab you mean you charge R2 from behind and then visceral attack, right?

here's how I did the dog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGSBLbUmREs
use the fire damage reduction rune and two HP ones.
next boss is waaaaay easier, don't worry.
