Xenoblade Chronicles X: April 10th Doll Presentation [up: video with subtitles]

My god the translation adds so much.

In the insurance part, so the Doll is automatically insured after purchase for 3 replacements? That's good if true, because I don't wanna get bankrupt by paying insurance after buying my expensive toy lol. I wonder if that can be renewed as well if in case you're running out of Doll "lives". And I hope weapons won't get lost after the fourth mecha fall because that will be a heartache lol.

And I finally get a better understanding of Doll Defense. Basically, the character/s not in Doll get defense boost when at least one member is on a mech. 20% boost per Doll. Nice tactic. This is the one I never understood before. Really nice translation we got here.

The bit about fuel kinda threw me off. She said Miranium used to replenish fuel is super expensive; I wonder how they balanced that with use of the Doll. She made it sound like you'll have a hard time filling up the tank, which means I can't use a Doll as much as I'd like?

Just finished rewatching it with the subs, thanks a lot. Loved the bit about more powerful weapons taking more slots, and also the multiplayer quests. Seems like they might give this game much longer legs, perhaps on the league of a Monster Hunter game depending on how well they're implemented.

I'm still wondering how the open world / explore at your pace thing will mesh with the epic events like the impending war depicted at the end. By which I mean I'm eager to find out. :D Definitely my most expected game right now.

Wow, it's amazing how much depth there is to this game, even compared to Xenoblade Chronicles. The variety of online features, the way that Dolls complement on foot movement for both exploration and combat, all of the customization options, it all seems so ambitious in design.

If it all comes together well, it'll be an amazing experience to say the least.

Just watched the translated version. Damn, that's a serious game of the forever contender. Thanks for the translation, it's giving my the epic feels. Elma's final words and the battle kickoff. So good.

If I remember correctly, doll fuel is consumed by using arts and by flying, so you'll be still able to explore without being held back by the fuel too much. Just avoid too much fighting and use flying to get to otherwise unreachable places or as a shortcut. Fuel gets slowly replenished when you're exiting the doll so in combination with saving up, I think it's a good setup for exploring, without gamers being overpowered. There are many areas you'll want to explore on foot once in a while, so all is well for me.

Seems to be handled a lot like it was in gears, which wasnt a problem at all.

Its a bit pricey at the beginning of the game, which makes it a bit of a challenge for early sections, but as the player progresses, becomes more powerful, and amasses wealth, it becomes less and less of an issue.

That being said, like in xenogears, there will probably be moves, and parts you can buy to amplify said moves, that can replenish fuel, even in battle. Will probably make those players very popular in squad missions.

I think all of this is a very good balance Dolls could have easily been OP
but there are set limits that make them feel more precious so you have to handle them with care

also the fact you do not get to use them right away make getting them that much more rewarding

I really did not expect them to have so much depth, can't wait to see how this all plays out
if it truly works and really fun as I hope it will be

so i just saw this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f5XlrwhXsw

to me the textures are lower quality/worse. theres alot more detail missing (details in background, people, robot, etc). They went a step backwards in the lighting department. It clearly looks worse to me but some people are saying its pretty much identical. am i blind?!

I do like the look of the character and doll more in the original one, even though we never see his face. I'm sure both of those things are up to how you customize things though. Think it may be the armor but he just looks more slender in the newer one.

Don't really care about whatever graphical downgrade may be represented since I am willing to give a lot of leeway there for open and fully explorable world games. Would rather a downgrade in graphics and more openness to the world over ultra graphics and linear closed off world, even if it doesn't look as good in screenshots. My problem is subjective though, in that all the new designs look worse then the older ones to me.

Overclock Mode gave me flashbacks to Infinity Mode for Gears in Xenogears.

I'm not too worried about the Fuel issue - it looks like they were going for a balance where you wouldn't overuse the Dolls to do all your fights and fly everywhere, but there don't appear to be limitations on exploring by driving the Dolls, and there's slow auto-refueling so if you run out and want to fly somewhere you won't be completely stranded.

It seems like some of the best Doll models and weapons for customization will be rewards for fighting the "World Enemies" so it might force you to go online, but since I think you can do squad missions with AI members if you choose, it's not quite the same as forced online multiplayer (which annoys me, like when Mass Effect 3 gated the best endings behind a requirement that forced you to use multiplayer).

And joining in on the thanks for the video translation - it was really well done and made things much more clear.

It would be nice it it was like Xenogears where you could strategize your Doll equipment to focus on more fuel at the cost of max hp, and vice versa. I always loved having to tweak things in Xenogears for each boss battle.

Considering this is kind of exactly how affinity links + equips worked in Xenoblade, I'm expecting they'll do something like that with Dolls.

ME3 never forced you to play MP. I didn't even have Xbox Live Gold and I got the "best" ending with sufficient galaxy readiness. Playing MP was just an alternative solution to doing every possible sidequest.

There is also nothing forcing you into online here from the looks of it. Everything can be done with AI.

Does anyone know the name of the track that starts at around 12:20 in the video? It's fantastic.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D launches today on Nintendo 3DS XL (the first game that requires Nintendo's new handheld to run), and we were able to send a few questions over to the game's developers in Japan. Check out the Q&A below that covers Xenoblade's original launch on Wii, what it took to bring the game to a portable device, and a few details about the upcoming Wii U-exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Answers were provided by Testuya Takahashi (the head of developer Monolith Soft), representatives from Monster Games (the company that worked on the 3DS port), and representatives from Nintendo SPD (an internal Nintendo developer that is lending support to Monolith).

----

Without revealing any spoilers, what can fans of Xenoblade Chronicles look forward to when the franchise comes to Wii U? Will it feel familiar for returning fans, or will it be a departure from what was put together in Chronicles?

Takahashi: I think Xenoblade Chronicles X will have a different play feel from the first Xenoblade Chronicles game. Xenoblade Chronicles is a pretty linear game, but Xenoblade Chronicles X is non-linear, and I think a lot of the gameplay will depend on that.

Xenoblade Chronicles’ core thrust is centered around its story, but Xenoblade Chronicles X is shaping up to be a game with more focus placed on action elements that take advantage of the open world instead of the story aspects. However, both games will retain a common feel based on the core elements that serve as the foundation for the series. It may feel different to play, but it’ll provide a new way of having fun within the same Xenoblade series.

Well, I'm sad to hear about that story news, but I'm sure it will still be a fun game.

You're not reading this right. You're reading this as "there's barely any story in the game" when what it means is that you're pushed along by story events in a linear fashion because it's more dependent on what you actually do and when you do it. They've made it pretty clear that there is a lot of story stuff going on.

The direction of the game justifies exploring this huge world. In the last game, you notice how linear it is in the fact that just looking at the map after a normal playthrough without worrying about side quests and such, you see a lot of missing space.

But here, your purpose to exploration comes in the land probes and searching for Life. It's something that I feel will make my exploration even more worthwhile. Plus you can't go wrong with the Dolls.

Neg, I read it right, but maybe I didn't represent myself properly. I like the linear story structure of the past games/this kind of game and that is one of the things I was looking forward to. Basically even though I wasn't a big fan of the way the story ended up in Xenoblade it is pretty much one of my favorite formats. Major linear story that leads you through the world with a shit ton of side stuff that you can handle along the way.

Anyway, after careful reflection:

Mission 1: find Doll + armor design that looks closest to a gundam

Mission 2: beam saber + large beam rifle

I don't really like how that stuff about the story sounds as like someone else said, I love when the story is progressed in a linear fashion like Xenoblade. Of course, it totally depends how they do it and if it keeps me interested in the entire time.

Now we just need Newtype shenanigans. Otherwise I'm just gonna paint mine red.

I wounder if this sentiment is a side effect of things being so customizable. People wanting to recreate their favorite other series designs I mean, instead of letting the new thing stand on it's own feet. I don't really know if this is a bad thing, just something I've never really understood.

Alright, got ya.

holy shit, the mechs in this game are amazing. are squads random or can you choose who is in your squad?

I think them being random would defeat the point kind of. You can probably lock them down and make them friends only though or use a password or something.
