Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition |OT| Shoot them with your guns (Again!)

So how does it stack up against the other Xenoblades? 👀
To me, par for par, it's the best one.
- Best combat.
- Maybe best music. (This is somewhat debatable because they all have fantastic music)
- Best exploration
- With the DE best graphics
- Best English voice acting.

There was NO Switch 2 Edition upgrade announced in case anyone was wondering.

It'll get an upgrade pack. It's an easy win for N & M at this point.

Not that I'm saying N can't fumble a sure thing, heaven knows they've got the experience and history to do it, but I think this one is probably a safe bet due to the development occurring during the Switch 2 development and the game releasing so close to it.

Trying to decide what to do....im not super far so im wondering if i should wait a couple months and play this on Switch 2 instead with the not so secret, and likely Switch 2 upgrade for this.....

Hot take: I realize many won't agree but this game's OST would be in my Top 10 of all time if it didn't have the Engrish. When I played this game years ago I wasn't very knowledgeable about music production and I was just getting into to it but coming back to it with fresh ears it's so highly competent composition and production wise it's really a shame they couldn't have just done the songs in Japanese or with a lead instrument. It's like having a beautifully cooked main dish and then covering it in poo. The music is still amazing but with the acceptation of the Noctalim song I mentioned before, I find it really distracting especially during the emotion scenes (not to mention how the voices clash with the dialogue sometimes). It's still a really good OST. I just wish they would have self-edited a little more on this front. My favorite track is actually the alien ship since it has no vocals. It's a really cool rhythmic track that starts out quirky and silly but then builds up and actually gets a bit inspirational on the changeup. I also like the melody of the crystal area (name escapes me now) which has a typical, but beautiful melody.

What about tracks like Primordia(day), Theme X and the title screen?

So how does it stack up against the other Xenoblades? 👀
I haven't played 3, all things considered.

But i always found X to be the superior entry, they give up the notion that combat isn't just MMO lite and essentially made a SP MMO, and it's glorious if you are in the mood for MMO style levelling and grinding but not wanting to worry about subs or raids etc.

I find the mainline games kind of overrated.

Oh, I mean I like all the tracks. I just mean that the Engrish makes it fall short or it being perfect for me is all. Every track is brilliant at its core. Kind of like having mayo on your PB and J.

I got my Skell recently and really like how it makes you feel both overpowered and underpowered at the same time. Suddenly those level 55 enemies floating around that didn't notice me as a tiny human, I have to be worried about. Great game design. Still just having a blast bombing around the world and doing quests and expanding my survey rate. So much to explore and discover!

One thing that confuses me about the story though -- at the start they say Earth is basically caught in the crossfire in a war between two powerful alien races and we get blown up by accident, more or less. But then the aliens pursue us and want to kill us for some reason too? And their mission continues to be eradicating all humans? So were they targeting earth or were we an innocent bystander, I'm not sure. And none of the human characters seem to question this either. No need for spoilers if this is explained eventually, maybe let me know that lol.

This exactly why in my opinion this has the BEST open world in any RPG.

IIRC, the Wir Fliegen also have broken German. This is just Sawano usual stuff.

With the skell weapons, sometimes the power level doesn't translate to what you would think in terms of damage, but the fuel usage always translates really well. So a weapon that uses 200 fuel will be really effective and a weapon that uses 1800 fuel can one shot bosses way above your level if you craft augments like exploit enemy type and the damage type of the weapon is right (eg a fire weapon on a fire giant that lives in cauldros won't one shot even with lots of "exploit dmg humanoid type augments.) But those types of augments are among the cheapest and easiest to craft so very helpful to craft a lot.

I think the OST is peak including with the engrish for me. I won't pretend I think NLA theme is great but it does kind of have a weird spell it casts over you after a while. The main problem is that while most of the music is sensational you usually don't get to hear it much or for very long. Like an awesome 3 minute song will play for 45 seconds during a cutscene, then you listen to NLA theme for 8 minutes while you quest around town.

I'm considering holding off on finishing this game until I get Switch 2.

The idea of playing this in 4k 60 HDR is just too good to pass up...

It's absolutely coming. Don't forget, a 60fps mode was already found in the code and Nintendo has already announced several Switch 1 games will be getting FREE Switch 2 upgrades. Oh, it's definitely coming.

I really hope so. Gonna hold off playing this for a while.

Few hours in. The most immediate observations:

  • OST bangs
  • Dialog boxes, the game?
Seriously. Dialog choice? Dialog box.

Press A on door? Dialog box.
Save the game? Dialog box.
Oh, you want the leave the save screen? Dialog box.
Battle finishes? Dialog box loot screen.
Finished a quest? Dialog box.

This game is SO heavy on its UI like jfc

Yeah. It's annoying, but there are more annoying games in this regard. I hate how they stop the music and everything for you to choose responses randomly. That feels so awkward and immersion breaking.

I'm barely progressing the story. and loving every minute of it.

The new Hraesvelg Skell is not all that crack up to be, the design itself is not bad but the fact you can't change its armor piece and weapons is huge deal breaker.

Also dont like the fact it doesn't have have car mode, the reason I like Skell's car mode because it reminds me of LFOs in Eureka Seven.

I saw some theory that Hraesvelg is a prototype for the next Xenoblade/Monolith Soft game, in which you can fly like a plane.

I'm 40 hrs in and am at the Skell license part. Im torn because I REALLY want to play and get the Skell but I'm holding out hope they will soon announce a Switch 2 update patch so that I get to experience it in the very best way possible...ugh, this sucks.

Funny thing in the quest itself Hraesvelg is viewed as a prototype.

If you could customize it's gear then I wouldn't mind using it but without it other Skell frames easily will out class it.

Does anyone know if there's a faster way to get silver coins? I've been playing games on my Switch but it never adds any silver coins to my Nintendo Account

Trying to get all of those NSO Icons before they expire

Play super mario run now to get 60 coins
- 10 for playing daily
- 50 for winning 3 times in Toad Rally

Fire Emblem Heroes
Clearing Chapters gives you 100 coins
Auto battle and skip story if you do not have time

I'm really liking how the side quests are done here, not only brings you to different part of the map but also has impact on actual NLA city.

Different alien race come to live in NLA because of the side quests.

I hope to see game do better sales wise, this game absolulty deserves it.

I hope this game reaches 1 million copies at least, so all Xenoblade games are million sellers on Switch.

You can change the camera distance by holding down the L button and moving the R stick up or down. Use it to play at a comfortable viewing distance or when taking screenshots!

Another nitpick I have is that sidequests should be giving way more EXP at this point, the EXP rewards is hardly worth it anymore. Like at the start they were worth 100-150 EXP and it was great, but now they're worth like 250-300 and I'm getting more than that in fighting a single giant bug on the way to the objective.

That would make us super overleveled. I personally not doing side quests for EXP, I'm doing it for the side stories which bring different alien race to your city and also you need to do some side quests to unlock affinity quests.

If you want more exp then equip EXP boost gears and hunt Tyrants.

Yeah the EXP for sidequests seems really pathetic, I'm not sure why they designed it that way.

Oh well I mainly do quests to build up affinity with my party members anyway.

Because side quests are designed that will make you explore more part of Mira and when bring different races to the city you will unlock their tech for your gears.

I feel like I'm already way overly overleveld for story quests by doing side quests......I dont think I need more EXP.

I've been doing the Online Missions at the moment since I want to get all of the Bunnysuit costumes even the Reverse Bunnysuit. My characters are at Level 55 and I'm eventually gonna to grind them to Level 99. I love doing Sidequests and Affinity Missions especially for the stories and yes they don't give out as much experience but they do give out other rewards that are useful

I have been completely ignoring online mission since I dont have Nintendo online subscription and have no attention of getting one.

Not being able to abandon affinity missions is such bullshit, and after 90 hours with this game I'm about to give up and not finish it.

The one I'm on now requires me to go into a lava cavern to fight a big monster. I'm 25 levels higher than it is, but once I start the battle my stupid AI companions go full Leeroy Jenkins and dive straight into the lava and die. Spent the last three hours trying various methods (like exiting the cave and getting in my skell, but the battle ends before I can) and it's making me want to throw my Switch across the room - which is my usual sign that I'm done playing a particular game.

I ALWAYS save right before an affinity mission and never manually save again until I finish it or If I do I, use a 2ndary save file. That way I'm never ever "stuck" on an Affinity mission.

Also it helps to look at the mission details and check where it's sending you

Good tip on the save thing. Unfortunately, I'm a habitual manual-saver, so I'm screwed there. I did look at where they were sending me and the recommended level (I'm almost 20 levels higher than recommended) it's just a combination of stupid lava platforming and the AI teammates trying to move around the battlefield to get a better shot at the baddy (and subsequently drowning themselves in lava).

So, now my options are either to level up enough so that I can take on the enemy solo (enemy is level 46, I'm level 63 and still died every time) or just give up on being able to finish the game.

Damn I see....hmm. Try to min/max your equipment (every stat in your favor might help). And if all else fails level up about 10 levels.

Also, make sure to take advantage of the Arms Manufacturers. You can produce extra gear augments for your Equipment slots. Or produce better equipment (weapons and armor)with certain materials. There's always a way out, you just have to get creative 👍

Edit: Lastly make sure to upgrade any arts or skills that help with healing and/or defensive supports or elemental attacks the enemy may be weak against (same with augments).

I did some searching for you since I'm nice, looks like your best option is this:

It's an Armor Augment, the XX version makes the character completely resistant to all terrain damage so they can walk in lava without getting hurt. Might take a little effort to get all the components and such but better than dropping a game after 100 hours I think.

New mission objective achieved. Didn't realize the XX mod was -100%, that's amazing. Cheers!
