I hope this won't be seen as flamebait since it's a DC series, but how enjoyable did you guys find Daredevil compared to the Flash ?

Daredevil is indeed miles ahead of Flash. Stronger acting/cast/storyline, fighting choreography, no forced pairing(cw elements) etc.

Like everyone been saying, it's like watching a 13 hour movie.

I really don't like to compare them because they're VERY different types of characters (both in the comics and in the shows) and said shows are trying to do VERY different things. Honestly, comparing Batman to DD would be a bit more accurate (although still not exactly the same). This show is what the Nolan films (which I love overall) would have been if they'd had more time to develop/flesh EVERYTHING out, as opposed to having to concentrate on certain things due to time constraints.

This show really helps sell the idea of this format/why it is the best option for some characters. Some characters, like DD, just work better with longer-term, more gradual storytelling.

I finished episode 7 or 8 last night. My netflix says I got through episode 9, but pretty sure I had long been asleep.

Anyways I was pretty into it up until the last few episodes. Still enjoying it but it seems to be dragging a bit now. Maybe that's just a result of binge-watching.

Also it got a little too Arrow-like for me. I like Arrow, but really it seems way too similar at least at the point I'm at now.
Matt/Oliver want to save his city by taking out bad guys. Fisk/Merlyn want to save the city by murdering everyone and starting over.

Feel like both of these are true. Daredevil only has baggage in a bad Ben Affleck movie. The character itself is IMO much stronger. Flash plays the character the only way I think it makes sense, as something pretty campy.

As for Daredevil, I think this series was a success for me because for all the talk about "dark and gritty", I didn't really feel like it was layered on for the sake of it.

Already posted in the spoiler thread earlier. But I finished it, and what a ride. Bring on season 2. I want to see where all the remaining plot threads go. I want to see the surviving characters return stronger than ever. I trust DeKnight to do justice to Elektra and Bullseye. Make it so!

Got to episode 9 last night. Words can't express how disappointed I am in this show. My first mistake was assuming it'd be a higher form of art than average TV. No matter how violent or "gritty" it is, it still feels like a show on the CW. Oh my God and what did they do to Kingpin. I don't care if this is the Marvel NOW Kingpin or KinpinMAX or whatever but this is NOT Kingpin. They should've gotten a worse actor to play a one note character. Vincent D'Onofrio is bad on this show, his voice goes all over the place trying to hit that right gruff low tone.

Stick is awesome and some of the fight scenes have been cool but the show is bad. Not even worth re watching.

I really hope Marvel does a better job with Cage but based on this show I have no faith it will be any good. I don't know much about Jessica Jones or Iron Fist so at least Marvel can make those horrible and I won't care.

I miss you, Affleck DD. At least you only wasted 2 hours of my life and had good characters <3

Flash is ten times more fun while DD is a solid and very enjoyable show. I want to say DD is a tad more realistic but I still don't buy a blind dude being a better fighter than every single person he encounters. Bottom line is I like both shows.

I'll just say that both Flash and Daredevil do a great job of nailing the tone of their respective comic book. People that actually care made these shows.

Daredevil is a better show overall though.

You know how his powers work right? He isn't just blind his powers give him nearly a complete 360 layout of the area he is in. His powers are better then having eyes (except he can't see things like colour or light).

Wait, so he's a mutant or an Inhuman? How and when did he aquire these powers? Or are we to assume all blind people have them?

Episode 10 was kinda lame.
Foggy was being unbearably whiny and I didn't like the hamfisted flashback structure one bit
. It was clearly a 'setting the pieces' episode, but it didn't work for me. Seeing
what Matt's first action as a vigilante
was pretty intense and dark, though.

Chemicals gave him his powers. Got it. That makes it more enjoyable for me. Only up to episode eight. Thanks guys

Just watched the first few episodes...

What is this majesty?

His powers is WAY DIFERENT than having eyes.

I can't believe that people can say that it is better than having eyes when they are typing on a keyboard to see it posted on a monitor =P

Not seeing light or colors means he can't read, he can't use a pc or smartphone, can't play most games, can't see if he will drink pepsi or coca cola

I'm still watching the show and the full extent of his powers is being left kind of vague so far, but Comic Daredevil knows if it's Pepsi or Coca Cola from afar by the scent and how differently the bubbles move etc, and he can guess colors according to the amount of heat they are absorbing or reflecting. He can also read printed media by feeling the impressions of ink on the pages (unless it's laminated pages or e-media, of course).

It's not objectively better than actually seeing, but in the early comics he kept avoiding an operation that could give him back his vision because it could also mean he'd lose his powers.

He can tell if it's Pepsi or coke from the smell

Regarding the Daredevil vs Flash discussion, these two are definitely the best superhero shows going right now for various reasons. I've enjoyed Agents of SHIELD a lot too so would put that a notch below. Arrow has been dogshit though and they seriously need to get their heads out of the arses for season 4.

I like the comparison above with Daredevil being the Batman Begins to Flash's Avengers. Two distinctly different yet very strong superhero shows that focus on very particular areas they also excel at. For that, I don't know if I can definitively pick an absolute favourite. Maybe Daredevil because I love the gritty realism of the show and characters like Matt and Kingpin were legitimately very good in this show. The Flash offers great comic book action and incredibly fast-paced story progression in spades with also some very likable characters.

Whoever wins, WE win. What a time to be a comic book chive. Can't wait for Jessica Jones now.

He can read brail :p and he can use a computer and the internet considering he said he
bought his black outfit through online shopping

BTW Ep 2 spoilers regarding the ending...

That shit was 1 f'n take, holy moly! They shot it 12 times and only 3 takes made it through all the way and one of them is what you see in the show. Cox talks about it in the link.

Really?! Wow.

I mean, I figured the parts where he jumped into a room and went out of view were where they did the take transitions. That seemed to be what those out of view jumps were for.

Regarding the overall series, now that I've finished it: The thing they get so right is that right about halfway through the episodes, the entire show sorta blurs and becomes this one long continuous trail of bodies leading to the Kingpin, which is exactly what you want from a Frank Miller-inspired Daredevil universe. The enveloping, suffocating walls of corruption closing in around your characters... it's such an essential signature of Daredevil's best comics and they nail that in the series.

I don't think playing video games matters to a vililanty who is a master martial artist. Yeah he has trouble with things that require eyes but they hardly ever come up. Yeah if someone told him to give them something blue or red he will be lost but he can tell if someone is sneaking up on him from several blocks away. He has complete spacial awareness As opposed to only being able to see forward.

You are on episode eight??? Did you miss the scene in episode two when he could
HEAR and SMELL a guy three floors up from him?
How did you not notice his powers?

I'll go against the grain here, but for me I find the Flash is a hell of a lot more fun and consistent so far in its first season.

Daredevil is really good for a while, but it kind of dropped off towards the last few episodes there. In particular, the (Episode 13)
final fight scene was really, really weak. All that buildup for Kingpin to be a badass, and he's running away? What the fuck?

Episode 9 is everything about Daredevil in one episode so beautiful. From showing Matts inner conflict and religion to the fights. Goddamn that episode was amazing

I hope they release some sort of press release soon letting folks know how well the show did, viewer wise.

It got pretty much glowing reviews across the board so I would think a second season is pretty much a guarantee.

I say season 2 is a lock it more when is season 2 coming. If they don't get it out like most shows yearly people might stop caring. 3-4 years before next season be a terrible idea 2 years is maybe pushing it

Of course I saw it but that didn't say he got these superhuman powers due to the chemical compound that got in his eyes.

So am I right to assume that there was nothing special about these chemicals? All I have seen is how losing sight enhanced his other senses. Having your other senses enhanced by the loss of another shouldn't give you superpowers.

It's mentioned briefly in conversation later on that the chemicals were to blame for the enhanced senses.

Episode 10 is so slow. First time since episode 1 I've only been listening while getting stuff done around the house.

Man I love the fight scenes in this. I like how they made him more human, if that makes sense. The movie kinda made it seem like he had more than human strength.. As in knocking someone out with one punch or falling 20 stories and landing on his feet. I like that the fight scene is more like human.. It takes a couple of times to knock someone out. Also I love how they don't really show what Daredevil "see's".. I hated that in the movie. Took me out of the experience.

I do have one small critique.. I wish they played more on the "daredevil" side of Daredevil.. Like his balance.. Jumping from building to building.. sliding on wires type of thing. I did like that in the movie. Like the scene were he slides down a railing on a bad guy.

I work in the IT and work with blind people on a regular basis and they use a PC almost as good as I do.
They rely on Text to speech and braille and everytime I see people working with this stuff I am baffled how well it works.

It was pretty mindblowing to me when I learned that braille is faster with dots than by having raised up normal shaped letters. I guess it must be true, but it seems hard to believe.

Something must have happened during production, or at least I hope so because the season slows to a crawl midway through before turning into cheesecake during home stretch.

I'm disappointed.

Yikes, my wife and I are already struggling with the glacial pace through episode 5. If it gets slower we might just give up.

Any subplots not directly involving Fisk or Murdock is sooooooo boring. Everything else is A-1 tho. For season 2 they should make note of dialing up the writing for the other characters or cutting their scenes
