Last year's ultimate Cinderella story has come to what appears to be a crashing and crushing end.

Total Divas and WWE Raw Superstar Daniel Bryan has been pulled from WWE shows and hasn't been on programming in over two weeks, and when he has been used, they've been protecting him in tag matches.

Word round the campfire is that he's getting progressively worse, health-wise. Nobody is saying exactly what is wrong, but it is believed he has still not healed from his injury about a year ago that kept him from returning until the end of last year. He successfully underwent traditional medical treatment, but doctors unable to discern what the recovery issue he was having sent Bryan to seek alternative therapy options. Some of us worry this may be part of the root of the issue.

PWInsider.com has not been able to confirm exactly why Bryan was pulled, but when reached for comment, WWE responded with the following statement:

"Daniel Bryan has been pulled from the remainder of the UK tour as a precautionary measure."

Whether this is a result from his return showing him still wrestling in a dangerous and daredevil style, or perhaps an anti-vaccination issue remains to be seen.

We all wish the best for Daniel Bryan and hope he gets well soon - in the meantime, we all sincerely hope he tones it down when he is in the ring and takes the time and care required to be healthy before returning, especially after the untimely death of Perry Aguayo Jr, who died earlier this year after taking a routine bump. A short lifetime of wrestling wear and tear were what did Aguayo in, and hopefully Bryan stays away if he's in any danger.

Edit:

It was brought to my attention that he seeked out alternative surgery and therapy, not necessarily alternative "treatment" - it's a broad scope of words, but I wanted to be a bit more accurate. He didn't try to fix his arm issue by oil pulling.

NO! NO! NO! :(

Hope he's alright. Health and safety first (though I find that "alternative procedures" malarkey seriously boneheaded, but still...)

Anti-vaccine issue aside, he should retire. He already reached the pinnacle of the wrestling pyramid, there is nothing else to accomplish. Just go home, take Brie with him and be a family man.

Oh man....

Not total true. He did get neck surgery. But it didn't work like they thought. He was supposed to get a second one (elbow) but decided to do therapy instead. This is something most people do. You do what you can with physical therapy before Docs start cutting and slicing you.

It's not like he had cancer and simply started taking more doses of Vitamin C to fight it.*

Neck injury alongside wrestling always seemed scary, was there an actual sure thing procedure for him to go through that he didn't do?

He refused traditional medical treatment with his injury and seeked out alternative procedures to help him, and some of us worry this may be part of the root of the issue.

God. Dammit. I hate him so much right now. Is he anti-vax too?

Someone needs to beat some sense into this guy. I'd hate for him to go out for being so dumb.

Okay good...

Well this is good for roman reigns at least (not happy about this part of it)

It'd be a shame if he had to retire, he should take time to heal, they work him so hard (and all wrestlers) that its ridiculous

Why do the good ones always seem to have their careers cut short? I was never a huge fan, but I really feel sorry for him with how short his run as the champion was.

Gotta take care of your health first. I hope he gets better, but if it's life or death in the ring, he's best to stay out.

Okay good...

He didn't "refuse traditional medical treatment."

He just had an experimental procedure/therapy done instead of the traditional surgery

DBry.... Not like this.

I'm guessing they add a Gimmick to his PPV match with Barrett coming up next week that makes the match easier for him to work without taking punishment (Falls Count Anywhere, and 50% of the match is brawling in the crowd?), and that it is the last time we see him wrestle for a long time, if not ever. His body clearly can't take the punishment anymore.

I think one could make the case that, with the alternative treatment thing, Daniel Bryan is the Steve Jobs of professional wrestling. But it falls apart when you consider that Steve changed the world, while Bryan held a fake championship for all of one month. I think Bryan's legacy will be that of the man who ruined two consecutive WrestleManias, the husband of a lady wrestler, and little more than that.

Did this actually happen or is Sunny just really committed to his gimmick?

Anyway dude should have changed his style a little after coming back. Having a neck injury and still doing diving headbutts? Come on son. Considering the moves WWE has banned I am surprised they still let people do them from the top rope.

I can't believe there are people who legitimately wanted Batista vs Randy Orton to main event a WrestleMania

I don't think there's anything wrong with that match. The ISEC is often unable to look outside of the bubble they're in, meaning that they weren't able to see that Dave Bautista was on a trajectory in which Guardians of the Galaxy (for which he received unanimous raves) was about to make him a genuine action A-lister, and having Bautista carry the belt with him on the red carpets would have been fantastic exposure for the company.

Kurt Angle won the gold medal with a broken freakin' neck.

Bryan should retire, not worth it.

To add more to it.

He was going to have surgery, but doctors were the ones that kept advising him to wait on it because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. He was willing to have surgery ASAP as it would have meant returning to the ring faster for him but doctors just kept wanting to do tests.

I swear to god I interpreted the title as: There's a wrestler who has been appearing on the show Jeopardy and kicking ass. But he like, cheated, or something, so now he won't be able to continue on the show anymore.

Being in Guardians of the Galaxy wouldn't erase the fact that Orton vs Batista would have gone down as one of the most boring WrestleMania main events in history. Batista couldn't go more than 5/10 minutes without being gassed because he just wasn't in ring shape when he came back, and Orton is a cardboard headlock machine when he isn't reversing every move under the sun into an RKO.

I'll edit the OP. Would you say he refused traditional...therapy? I remember him wanting to get his own doctor instead of the usual specialist.

I read that he talked on Jericho's podcast about the alternative procedures in depth, but I didn't bother to listen to it because it's still Jericho's podcast after all, and the alternative procedures talk is honestly just as groanworthy for me.

One could say the same about Dwayne Johnson vs. John Cena, which the real wrestling fans loved.

Exactly. Can a mod please change the title.

Why? It's in jeopardy, and likely finished. I don't see the issue. I'm expecting a legitimate retirement within the month, to be honest.

He was supposed to get a second surgery before SummerSlam I think. And he already agreed to do it but doctors kept pushing it back and instead just kept running more tests. In the end the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with it except for that one doctor in Denver (I think?) that fixed him up.

That's basically the gist of what happened. Way less of Bryan's fault than you make it sound in the OP.

Are we talking Rock vs Cena 1 or Rock vs Cena 2?

Rock vs Cena 1 was a respectable match. Rock vs Cena 2 was a boring finisher/reversal spam fest that had an extremely predictable ending

What a bummer. Daniel Bryan is a fantastic mid carder and a perfect fit for the second tier belts. Great in ring worker.

Definitely.

He's always been able to do any style of wreslting - high flying, brawler, power, submission, Olympic, etc. Even wrestled luchadore style (which is similar to high flying/brawler, but unique in its own right). It's why WON voted him best technical wrestler of the decade from 2000-2010 (even beating out guys like Kenta, angle, and benoit). Yet his WWE style has always been really violent, which to me, doesn't make sense, since you're wrestling so much in WWE compared to other feds (so you have to take care of your body more), and you also have the financial security to not have to put your body on the line so much. I don't know why he doesn't go for a more grounded style with submissions, suplexes, leg sweeps, etc.

This is all speculation. And if he is hurt, you don't think he's gonna take another break and have a proper surgery and recovery? He's just gonna call it a career cause of what you read on the Internet?
