It genuinely looks real and practical, it just looks star wars to me.

That tie-fighter. . . I can see feel the wires it's suspended from.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

I didn't like the opening of the trailer, too much sand. I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.

Otherwise this is an awesome trailer and the movie looks good.

The zoom in is fine in that shot. They don't bother me too much, but I hope they don't overuse them. I don't see how them not being in the OT should be a problem. This movie isn't the OT.

I just feel so strongly this is going to follow Dark Empire. The whole trailer is a misdirection and Luke is the main antagonist and the girl in the trailer is Han and Leia's daughter.

It's tough to judge based on 14 year old technology. Sure they're eye bleeders now, but seeing as they were probably created in the 2001 time frame, I cut them some slack.

I do remember thinking they were amazing in the theater, though.

Hasnt been mentioned but my favourite part of the trailer was actually this bit

Im not even sure why, maybe it was the music hitting a crescendo, or that it genuinely looks real and practical, it just looks star wars to me.

I think everything is real in the foreground, including explosions.

Past that first parked tie figher and stormtrooper that is getting blown up everything is CG including the flying tie.

It looks really convincing.

If Lucas made it like he made the prequels, it would be either completely CG or 1 to 3 actors on an entirely blue screen stage. I don't think anyone would fight me on this.

That cgi looks bad, yes, but for me nothing will top the scene where Yoda, Windy, and Obi Wan are talking in a hallway in Attack of the clones. McGregor and Jackson look like they were pasted in. Such terrible work.

I wish I could find a clip of it or gif.

It's all about the balance between practical and special effects, if you get it right you can blend the two to make the scenes look so much more grounded and realistic. When you go almost pure CG, it just doesn't work.

The very beginning of that clip is hilarious. They're just standing there, and Natalie Portman says "look", revealing that there are several gigantic spaceships flying overhead. How the hell did no one else see them?

It's not just about the CGI the actual green screen work is atrocious. You can see dithering on the edges of the actors as they move around. The color correction is completely off too

I don't think the CGI was that bad necessarily. I mean it was good for the time. My problem with it is that there is just so much of it. Like that clip of the Battle of Geononis, it's pretty much all CGI! The look and feel that I'm getting from watching what Abrams has done so far is night and day. Star Wars needs sets, it needs locations, and models. That to me is part of the Star Wars feel.

While I understand its uses and convenience, as visionaries I cannot understand how directors dont realise the ageing process, or realise and dont care, there is no excuse now, years and years ago you could use cgi because it was new and not know how much the mdeium would develop, therfore some naivty was fine. But to use CGI so prominently now, knowing that it will always age and date your film, is somewhat inexcusable I feel.

There is very little that takes me out of an experience like piss poor cgi that has aged badly.

Is there anything that can be done for the quality of the prequels, or will they forever taint the Star Wars saga?

Visually? Since everything is CG, they can probably spend money and go and redo those the same way HD remakes of games happen lol.

But that shit acting and weak plot is going nowhere until they do a full remake.
